For me this song is about two people who love each other but circumstances in their lives prevent them from being together (maybe because one or both of them are in relationships with other people).- "Its so easy to see dysfunction between you and me" Their relationship with each other may have ended abruptly because of circumstances beyond their control. And after so much time has passed they still can't seem to let go of their feelings for one another. They want to let it go because it hurts to love someone so much whom you cannot be with.- "We must free up these tired souls before the sadness kills us both. I tried and tried to let you know I love you but I'm letting go." They try to stay away from each other but they can't & find themselves secretly meeting up every now and then- "It may not last, but I don't know, i just don't know." I think they try to pretend that they're over each other by lying to themselves and to each other but deep down inside they both know how each other really feels although it's never spoken between them.- "if you don't know, then you can't care." When they do see one another they can't let their true feelings show because it will only further complicate things.- "And you show up but you're not there" Deep down they're afraid to let go of each other & afraid that one of them will oneday let go of what they do have. And if they do its like they're giving up on the chance of them ever being together, because they still want to be in a relationship together. If they eventually got back together they're both fearful that circumstance may rip them apart again.- "but I'm waiting, and you want to, still afraid that I will desert you" They never express their true feelings for each other purposely when they talk because it will only make their love for one another stronger and this is they're way of trying to put distance between them and push each other away, but this never works & they're in denial- "Every day with every worthless word we get more far away, the distance between us makes it so hard to stay" They know the best thing to cure they're heartache is to stay away from each other and even if they got together again one day they still may end up with they're heart broken because relationships don't always last.- "but nothing lasts forever so be honest babe it hurts but it may be the only way." When they secretly meet up and make love it puts a temporary bandaid on their hearts, but unfortunately also makes their love for each other grow which in turn makes them hurt more.- "a bed that's warm with memories can heal us temporally, but misbehaving only makes the ditch between us so damn deep" When they are around one another they try their best not to catch more feelings for each other & the relationships they are in with other people they don't take seriously because they gave each of their hearts to each other & they don't want to love the one they're with as much as they love each other because they will hopefully get back together in the future, until then they can only love one another in their dreams.- "built a wall around my heart, never let it fall apart, but strangely I wish secretly it would fall down when I'm a sleep" Although they haven't cut each other off completely & they take measures to keep they feelings from growing, they keep falling deeper in love.- "even though we have not hit the ground, it doesn't mean we're not still falling" They want to be back in a relationship with each other again but they're both afraid to leave the safety of the relationships they are in with other people which is their own fault but they're in denial.- "what a shame I hope you find somewhere to place the blame" Until they are truthful about their feelings things will never change.- "but until then the fact remains" One last thing, notice how the drum & bass are playing in the rhythm of a heart beat, two instruments- two heart beats! |
