Queens of the Stone Age – Auto Pilot Lyrics | 9 years ago |
I thought it was 'saw you lying there on the marble slab'... |
Nevermore – Evolution 169 Lyrics | 9 years ago |
About the 169 thing....I always thought it was supposed to be like a bible passage (like Evolution 16:9). There are a lot of biblical references here. "and two by two into the mouth of madness" is a reference to Jesus telling his disciples to preach the gospel two by two, for example. I think he's criticizing blind belief in general here. A lot of people blindly just believe evolution is true because they hear it from authority figures (scientists). He's telling us 'don't set your mind to one side' and admit that you don't really know. |
Agents of Oblivion – Phantom Green Lyrics | 9 years ago |
I think it's 'another dead age' but I may be wrong. |
Spoon – They Want My Soul Lyrics | 9 years ago |
I've heard many people who think he's singing about a literal Christian soul but I don't think that's accurate. I think he's singing about a metaphorical soul. They want my individuality, my identity. |
Modest Mouse – Pistol (A. Cunanan, Miami, FL. 1996) Lyrics | 9 years ago |
Obviously, this song is about Andrew Cunanan. He killed a bunch of people in Florida in '97. This song has '1996' in the title, so I'm guessing this song must be about his life right before the killing spree. |
Modest Mouse – Strangers to Ourselves Lyrics | 9 years ago |
Comparing life to being stuck in traffic and getting nowhere fast. We're lucky that we slept since we didn't miss anything. |
Modest Mouse – The Ground Walks, with Time in a Box Lyrics | 9 years ago |
I get the impression that this song is about evolution and how it's created something (us) that has backfired and how that creation is going to destroy everything else that's been created and we just don't care for the most part. "The world's an inventor We're the dirtiest thing it's thought about And we really don't mind" The line "We're gonna throw a party / All the ghosts of trees are coming out" makes me think of deforestation. It's just a very strong 'creation destroying the creator' them. |
Autolux – Here Comes Everybody Lyrics | 9 years ago |
This song seems to be about an anti-social and depressed shut-in. "calling on all downs that you once made home" "the air it hangs its head" "here comes everybody from the outside" "here comes everybody you never cared for" "down so let down and down again" I also like the bank vault metaphor... |
Slowdive – When the Sun Hits Lyrics | 9 years ago |
-- Those lyrics seem off. This is how I hear it. -- Sweet thing I watch you Burn so fast it scares me Mind games don't move me Come so far don't lose me It matters where you are As the sun hits she'll be waiting With the cold things under heaven Hey hey lover you're still burning You're his song yeah (hey hey hey) Sweet thing I watch you Burn so fast it scares me Mind game don't lose me Numb so far don't lose me It matters where you are As the sun hits she'll be waiting With the cold things under heaven Hey hey lover you're still burning You're his song yeah (hey hey hey) Sweet thing I watch you (hey hey hey) |
Modest Mouse – Exit Does Not Exist Lyrics | 10 years ago |
He's saying there is no way out. You take an exit and it just takes you somewhere else, where there are more exits that take you somewhere else. Very existential stuff. |
Modest Mouse – Dog Paddle Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I'm down underwater |
Modest Mouse – The World at Large Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Walked away to another planet |
Arctic Monkeys – Arabella Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Arabella means "Beautiful Altar". |
Tool – The Grudge Lyrics | 10 years ago |
The 'Saturn comes back around' and 'Saturn ascends' lines makes me think of the No Doubt album 'The Return of Saturn'. Seems like an astrology reference to me. Anyone know the relevance of Saturn ascending and descending in astrology? |
In Flames – Deliver Us Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Looks right, except for one line. I'm pretty sure it's "why don't you spin nowhere with me". Watch the music video... |
Isis – Grinning Mouths Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Kind of makes me think of the pharmaceutical industry. I like the idea of the walls of our prison being the chemicals that dumb us down or make us dependent on perpetual treatment instead of cures. In the song Wills Dissolve, Turner sings "These eyes and tower have seeped into our open veins". I think this is related to the lyrics of this song. |
Isis – Backlit Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I agree. At first I heard it in the noun form, but now I prefer the verb form. It makes much more sense that way. |
Isis – So Did We Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I get what you're saying, but what would "resistance would be brought" mean in this context? I always assumed that this song was about the human tendency to deny the fact of our eventual demise (the years they passed and so did we) and that the religious belief in an after-life was the "resistance". |
Deftones – 976-EVIL Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Here's the link for those who don't know how to use Google. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0094597/ |
Deftones – 976-EVIL Lyrics | 10 years ago |
This is in reference to a movie by the same name where calling the number puts you in touch with the devil. It's from the 80s or something, look it up. |
Nine Inch Nails – Closer Lyrics | 10 years ago |
The Japanese (and the Chinese too) would call orgasm 'the moment of the clouds and the rain' when you would for an instant become one with the gods. |
Tool – Viginti Tres Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Sounds like "Mephisto" |
Nine Inch Nails – Zero-Sum Lyrics | 10 years ago |
The part about being zeros and ones makes me think of Determinism. The idea that our free will is an illusion and that our universe is basically a machine (or software) and that everything that will/has happened is predetermined. We actually have no control over our behavior, we're simply aware of it and fool ourselves into thinking we "choose" to do the things we do. |
Nine Inch Nails – The Warning Lyrics | 10 years ago |
The new song Satellite on Hesitation Marks reminded me of this. This song is also about a Satellite. A human satellite. |
Nine Inch Nails – Me, I'm Not Lyrics | 10 years ago |
To me this is simply about moral hypocrisy. Can we all stop living the way we're living and treating people / the planet badly (Me? I'm not). |
Nine Inch Nails – Survivalism Lyrics | 10 years ago |
This song reminds me of those cable TV shows like Doomsday Preppers and Life After People that are all about preparing for the Apocalypse. (and probably hoping it'll happen to justify their efforts.) |
Nine Inch Nails – The Beginning of the End Lyrics | 10 years ago |
"God helps the ones that can help themselves" is the correct lyric in the 2nd verse if I'm not mistaken. |
Nine Inch Nails – Satellite Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I know some people who are Satellites. They don't have their own orbit around life, they orbit someone else and live off of them (and are also addicts of some kind). Just a thought. |
Nine Inch Nails – Disappointed Lyrics | 10 years ago |
It seems like this is meant to be something Obama is saying. Read the lyrics that way and it makes a lot of sense to me. You all expected change but you should have known better than to trust me, a politician. Nothing will change and you'll be disappointed. |
Nine Inch Nails – All Time Low Lyrics | 10 years ago |
lol at the Final Fantasy theme at the end. |
Nine Inch Nails – Copy of A Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I think it's "Play your part" not pay Anyway, this song reminds me of the Bare naked Ladies song "It's all been done". There's nothing really original anymore, everything is a rehashing of something that's come before. |
Dinosaur Jr. – I Got Lost Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I listened to it a couple more times. I think it's "Love" not "Lord" |
Dinosaur Jr. – What If I Knew? Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Ankle deep and wondering why I'm full of doubt All this thinking stopping me from helping out I can't say I wasn't warned I've been trying but I'm torn Is it you? Is it me that wants you to? Is it three? What if I knew? If we could find another way... Love? If we could go back a few more days Waiting. Fading. Contemplating all my love Penetrated by the wasteland I've become I don't wanna go through more I don't know what to try for Is it you? Is it me that wants you to? Is it three? What if I knew? If we could find another way... love? If we could go back a few more days now Take it back and run away |
Dinosaur Jr. – I Got Lost Lyrics | 10 years ago |
When I know the way, I feel it All the way, all the way Lord Feels the same to me but I need it I've been cold, I've been cold Lord And I know the way and I'll leave it It's been done, It's been done Lord I got lost again, can you feel it? Pull me back, Pull me back Lord When I have a place can I keep it? For a while, For a while Lord I got lost again, but I need it. Pull me back, pull me back Lord All the way, all the way Lord Can we be the same again? Can we be the same Lord? |
Dinosaur Jr. – This Is All I Came to Do Lyrics | 10 years ago |
"and it bothers me, I'm open wide" instead of "all the while" "Been trying Lord, got nothing left. It's down to you as you can tell." He's tried to find God but hasn't been able to, so he's saying that it's up to God now to make him believe since he's got nothing left. "I've been waiting here, got nothing done." "and I wanted to every day. and I wanted what you gave away. I'll pray I get it." |
The Killers – Spaceman Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I thought he was saying "The Dream Makers gonna make you myth" that's what it sounds like to me. |
Deftones – You've Seen the Butcher Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Also, there's an obvious night/nocturnal theme throughout the album (The owl on the cover, diamonds ring across the sky, the sound of the waves collide tonight, you arrive in my dreams beside me every night, we try to drain the night empty, and so on) which supports my moon theory, I think. |
Deftones – You've Seen the Butcher Lyrics | 11 years ago |
He's using the moon as a metaphor for something, IMO. "watch the world explode from underneath your glow" "I wanna watch the way you creep across my sky" (sorry, but I don't think it's skull) "you slowly enter, because you know my room" "you crawl your knees off before you shake my tomb" You've seen the butcher could maybe refer to a Red Moon? |
