Soap&Skin – Extinguish Me Lyrics 8 years ago
For me it sounds like someone's long gone and she's been missing them so much that it feels like she was literally burning. Only when the person comes back, she will find her peace.
It's like a poetic way to tell them "I just can't live without you".

Evanescence – Weight of the World Lyrics 9 years ago
I know this song is not even about it, but due to my personal experiences, I can relate these lyrics to the FtM transgender person.
"Still in the dark, can you fix me?" - I can see it as a situation where other people don't have a clue about one's dysphoria and he keeps wondering if the world would accept him as a man.
"Freefall, freefall, all through life" - being forced to play the "wrong role" is painful to him; he suffers while being trapped in a feminine body.
"If you love me, then let go of me" - just a request: "if you love me, then accept the real me - I'm not a girl, I'm a man, so love me for who I am".
"I won't be held down by who I used to be / She's nothing to me" - a quite self-explanatory, he doesn't want to be seen as a woman and doesn't want ti continue his life living like that.
"Feels like the weight of the world / Like all my screaming has gone unheard" - it's like asking for help and understanding in this world that doesn't really understand his pain. He certainly feels misunderstood and maybe not accepted.
"And oh I know you don't believe in me" - how many people think gender dysphoria is nothing but a delusion and/or mental illness? He knows not si many people would truly understand what he feels.
As I said, I know this song is totally NOT about it, but it was just my own association.

Swallow The Sun – Falling World Lyrics 9 years ago
I can't understand why there are no comments here.
For me these lyrics seem to refer to a person who suffers from depression, someone who is so much broken that suicide seems the only way out to them. But, on the other hand, they still wish to be saved. Somehow I can relate to these lyrics if we look at them in this way.

Katatonia – My Twin Lyrics 10 years ago
These lyrics so horribly remind me of the situation I'm in. About someone whom I love, and who loves me as well, but keeps being in a relationship with someone else. And of course, she's also like my twin, a perfect soulmate who understands me like no one else. But we can't be together because she's with someone else. I'm not sure if this could be actually a good interpretation of this song, but these lyrics still describe our ridiculous situation perfectly.

Draconian – Death, Come Near Me Lyrics 10 years ago
I do agree with previous comments, but for me this song is simply a quite poetic description of depression. Every line of these lyrics say perfectly how depressed people feel.

Cult of Luna – Passing Through Lyrics 10 years ago
After listening to this song several times, I have a feeling that it simply says about death, when we know there's no way to survive it and we're gone permanently.

Cult of Luna – Back to Chapel Town Lyrics 10 years ago
My first acssociation with these lyrics was a person who has lost their loved one to death (possibly by suicide, but not necessarily) and now they cannot deal with their lost and wants to die just to be with that person again. Not sure if this is the real meaning, though. I love Cult Of Luna for their lyrics are quite enigmatic.

Riverside – Conceiving You Lyrics 10 years ago
Somehow lyrics of this song make me think of an autistic person. A person who doesn't know how to share a life with others, but still wishes to do it. Those who know more about autism, will also know that people suffering from this disorder actually want someone who will understand them.

I don't know why, but these lyrics make me think of some kind of mental illness.

Dimension Zero – Blood On The Streets Lyrics 10 years ago
Asphyxiation = suffocation. As far as I know.
I just think this song is about mankind in general. About how some individuals seem not to belong to this world full of people who are in fact all the same - these people are like "blood on the streets", wherever you look, you can see people who look and act almost identical, people who follow trends and those who are not brave enough to show their true self, so they also follow. Just one big mass. And people who are individualists just suffocate in this world, being captivated among masses.

These lyrics are a bit paranoid. First thing hat comes to my mind about it is paranoid schizophrenia, but I may be wrong of course.

I've been always feeling this song is about suicide. Or at least about death, when you know there's no way back and you won't survive.

Evanescence – Missing Lyrics 11 years ago
I see I'm not the only one who feels this song can refer to suicide. And I don't think it refers to relationship between man and woman, I also think it says about relationship between parents and their child. And of course I may be wrong.

Strung Out – Katatonia Lyrics 11 years ago
The first impression related to this song was the band Katatonia. :D But the song, isn't it about catatonia itself? Just about the state of a mentally ill person? It would also make sense.

Mind.in.a.box – Change Lyrics 11 years ago
For me this song may say about the borderline personality disorder. About a person who craves someone "perfect", who will love and accept them as they are and will never leave, yet they keep pushing others away when they get too close to them. Just like a vicious circle.

The Haunted – Forensick Lyrics 11 years ago
I don't know why, but this song makes me think of someone who's mentally ill and locked in the asylum. I'm sure this song is not about it, just saying.
Besides that this song is just purely misanthropic.

Evanescence – Lose Control Lyrics 11 years ago
I also think this song can be about someone who was abused, but rather in a meaning they just take the revenge on their oppressor. This is what I think about it:

"You don't remember my name,
I don't really care"
- it could man she was just one of many people (children, I guess) who were abused by the same person and she wants to take the revenge on behalf of all their victims.
"can we play the game your way?"
- it could mean the roles got reversed - she's been destroyed by them for a long time, I think, and now she's gonna play the game in their way - simply by destroying them.
"can I really lose control?"
- maybe she wonders if she's really able to do something like that. Maybe sh's asking herself if she's strong enough to face her tormentor once again just to give them what they deserve.
"Just once in my life
I think it'd be nice
just to lose control - just once"
- this is simple. Dspite her doubts, she's really determined to take the revenge and she's gonna do anything to achieve her goal and feel valuable and significant at least for one time (like in the way "I'm a victim, I'm worthless, I was only born to fail" and she wants to stop feeling this way if she achieves her goal).
"with all the pretty flowers in the dust"
- it makes me think about all abused children and again, I feel she's gonna take her revenge on behalf of them all and herself, of course.
"Mary had a lamb
his eyes black as coals"
- doesn't it refer to the popular song for children? Maybe the oppressor was someone whom she knows very well, maybe she trusted them before they started to harm her. It hurts even more if you get harm by someone who seemed to be your friend or even guardian.
"if we play very quiet, my lamb
Mary never has to know"
- this speaks for itself. Abusers often tell their victims not to tell anybody what's going on with them, for many reasons - nobody's gonna believe them, they will hurt others by saying it (like it was a lie, something that the child just imagined), or whatever. Or rather it's something like "It's our sweet mystery and nobody needs to know it except us".
"if I cut you down to a thing I can use
I fear there will be nothing good left of you"
- and this part. Seems to say that the speaker's revenge can bring a chaos to the life of a person who used to harm her, it can destroy their life. Maybe she's gonna reveal the secret, she wants to tell everyone wha's the true self of a person who abused her and others. I guess this person can be someone of high social position, maybe someone who is engaged in charity, perhaps, or someone who works with children, or something like this, so that nobody could ever suppose that they might be able to do something such awful as child abuse. Revealing this is a straight way to ruin the whole life if such person, to degrade them, it makes everyone to lose their trust in them forevermore.
I must admit my interpretation is slightly based on my own personal experience, but somehow I can relate to this song.

Evanescence – Field Of Innocence Lyrics 11 years ago
I think this song is about someone who's been forced to grow up too quickly, maybe due to experiences that caused a lot of pain in their life, maybe something else. Because of this a person realises the world is not as a safe, warm and peaceful place as they used to think while being a child, and opens their eyes for the truth. "Where has my heart gone / Trapped in the eyes of a stranger" could mean then that discovering the truth changed this person forever and made them lose their "heart" - for me it's a synonym for bravery or belief, maybe belief in God? It's not hard to lose belief when we can't help but see how cruel our world is. So that this prson wants to come back to their childhood times - a complacent, happy period when they wern't aware of this all, yet realises it's impossible since these times will never come back.
Maybe I feel so about this song since I'm one of those who are disappointed by the world that surrounds us, I don't know.

Katatonia – Ghost Of The Sun Lyrics 11 years ago
I think it's rather about someone who used to live in a bad environment, surrounded by evil people, maybe by social margin, and one day he breaks out of it since he realises they've been simply deceiving him. "It's all I know, you broke the vow" - maybe it means they promised him he'd become superior to everyone else when he joins them, but he noticed in a time that they only pull him down and make him someone like them - someone who simply debased himself. And he doesn't want to live this way.
"I once changed my style / When they said hello I said goodbye" - this means perhaps they're trying to make him return to them, but he finally keeps his eyes open to see what were they doing with him.
And "the city of glass that I live in" - maybe it means "I've been living a lie"? Or maybe he wants to say through this that the life he used to live is worthless and fragile, just like something made of glass.

Katatonia – Passing Bird Lyrics 11 years ago
I think the main purpose of this song is to rveal the difference between people who really suffer from dpression and people who drown in their imaginary sorrows because they think it's cool. It's not that depressed people just don't care about anything. Most of them really believe in a change for good and they also try. Emos usually don't want to change, but their "depression" is mostly fake.
It makes a great difference.

Katatonia – Don't Tell A Soul Lyrics 11 years ago
Isn't this song about suicide? I feel this while looking at the lyrics, like it's been written about someone who's been trying to live as much as possible, maybe fighting with his inner demons, but it became too hard for him and eventually he just gave in.

Katatonia – Follower Lyrics 11 years ago
It may sound odd, but I also feel this song can be about abused person, or at least a person who experiences domestic violence. Due to personal experiences I can relate to this song as my own thoughts and feelings are quite similar. And why do I feel so? Let's look at the lyrics from the very beginning:

"Hurts to see
My incapacity"

The meaning of it can be that after all things he experienced in his life, he became withdrawn, apathetic, maybe also alienated and isolated? Maybe others don't notice it? Maybe they don't see "something's wrong"? Or maybe, while loking at it as a whole ("Hurts to see, my incapacity") it means he just denies the truth. He doesn't want to remember about what oher person does with him, so he erases it from his mind and "closes" it.

"Shame
Idle mind"

This seems to be pretty simple. He is ashamed of what his oppressor does with him, maybe he feels guilty and dirty. And "idle mind" is when we don't want to recall something in our minds, well, at least I think so.

"No, you have changed me"

This is also easy. His tormentor ruined his life by abusing him, he changed him forever., so that the speaker became completely different person than he was supposed to be. Someone turned a long period in his life (perhaps childhood and/or adolescence) into hell and this is a consequence.

"My mouth is shut
Stupidity have shut my mouth"

Another part rather easy to understand. He doesn't want to tell anyone what happens to him, maybe he fels that nobody's gonna believe him, maybe he is just afraid of his tormentor, so he just suffers in silence. But what about "stupidity"? Maybe it refers to speaker himself, maybe it means he is being constantly degraded and humiliated by his torturer. Things like this always lower the self-esteem of abused person, so maybe he just feels worse than others because of that.

"So when you come
I'm too unprepared to come along"

For me it means he is simply scared of that person who comes to him every night. He doesn't want him to do all the things which he does to him. He doesn't feel good with it. He wishes it all ended. He wants his oppressor to leave him alone in a peace and nver come back.

"I hold your hand so hard my knuckles turn white
When you clear the streets
And kill the lights"

What about this? Well, we hold something that hard when we are scared. So it also means he is scared. What about the rest? In my opinion, "When you clear the streets" means "When everyone is going to sleep" and "And kill the lights" means "And it's getting dark outside". So the whole chorus means for me "I'm scared of you and all the things you do to me when you come to me at night".

"See the line
Border to freedom"

Maybe he is aware of the existence of freedom, maybe he craves it, but it seems to be unreachable to him. He feels trapped and imprisoned. He wants to break free from this.

"The words
Underlined
My name
You have changed it"

I think it works together. How to understand that? Perhaps it means he is simply undervalued. Maybe insignificant. I think he wishes to be loved, but not in that way. Not through abuse.

"Your tone change to cool
This is how you tell me once again"

For me meaning of this part is quite obvious. Abusers usually direct harsh words to their victims and their voices are full of hatred also directed towards them. Probably he's getting insulted or something like that. It's also a kind of violence and abuse.

"How I have nothing on you"

This speaks for itself. His tormentor was never who he should be for him. He never loved him like he should love his child. He never gave him support, he's been bringing only pain.

"How everything is supposed to end"

He is probably wondering how all these things will end up. Maybe he wonders if it ever ends, maybe he feels he's doomed to eternal suffering - even if his oppressor stops breaking him, all the painful memories and haunting nightmares will do it instead.

And the last part, I think, it's about how things suddenly change:

"Father
I won't make it"

He refuses it once more, he keps defending himself from this all.

"It's the journey of a life"

For me it sounds like "It's your last journey, you're gonna die". Maybe he sets himself free by killing his tormentor? This is what comes to my mind in regards to that.

"Fix my eyes on the sun
What have I done?"

This only confirms my conviction about killing. Perhaps he killed his oppressor and now he cannot believe that he really did it, he is shocked, maybe even he regrets it in some ways. He is finally free from a person who used to destroy him for years, yet he feels he'll never be free at all.

This is the first thing that comes to my mind according to this song. But... I think this song can have one more meaning. Maybe it just tells about a man who is a serial killer and his son (the speaker) who doesn't want to follow in the footsteps of his father? Maybe he feels scared and disgusted by what his father does. Then a words "When you clear the streets and kill the lights" might mean a mass slaughter or just taking lives one by one. And the last part of this song might say he doesn't want to do it and he rfuses it, but aftr all, he decides to follow his father and now he regrets. Maybe his pangs of conscience don't want to leave him alone.

I'm sure my interpretations are most likely very far from the true meaning of this song, but this is just how I see it. And I love their lyrics for they never give a clear answer about their meaning, so we can find ourselves in them.
