This song is probably a love song, but I can’t help thinking about it in a different way. A friend of mine, who was a great Helloween fan, committed suicide last month and He was always the one who invited us to have some beers, to just go around and see each other, etc. I’ve been diagnosed with depression and I believe he also suffered from it due his way of seeing life in the last couple of months. We got even closer once we had been having the same problems with work, family and relationship. I’ve always been the tough guy, the one who doesn’t care about anything. With that in mind, I’ve came to think this song is about losing a friend “Here I stand all alone Have my mind turned to stone Have my heart filled up with ice To avoid it's breakin' twice” The person who didn’t commit suicide is there, trying also no to break “Thanks to you, my dear old friend But you can't help, this is the end Of a tale that wasn't right I won't have no sleep tonight” He’s telling to all the people trying to support him that they can’t do it “In my heart, in my soul I really hate to pay this toll Should be strong, young and bold But the only thing I feel is pain” This toll of knowing how depressed his friend was and not helping him properly “It's alright, we'll stay friends Trustin' in my confidence And let's say it's just alright You won't sleep alone tonight” Telling to all the friend they used to have in common that things won’t change and he will be there to help them (…) “With my heart, with my soul Some guys cry, you bought and sold They've been strong, young and bold And they say, play this song again” The friend of the one who committed suicide are crying due what he did, despite that, they’ve been trying to do their best to get better and ask to play this song again as a way of remembering him. |
