The Weeknd – Wicked Games Lyrics 11 years ago
" listen ma I'll give you all I got get me off of this I need confidence in myself " .... is him talking to himself. He promises her power (really, he is babbling) her power and at the same time he is telling himself he needs to STOP!!!! and get off of this. The scars are a metaphor for his inner pain. Yes, mainly emotional, psychological scars etc ... The scars are in his psyche - his self esteem and self hate. Manifesting itself in addiction.

No, she is not a stripper. She is a prostitute. When you take money for sex, you are a prostitute. And a prostitute is no different than a drug dealer. They both deal pain, just one deals sex, the other deals their body.

The wicket game is the truth she tells him ... "only for tonight". She is playing a game to keep him interested in her. So she can get his cash. She is sowing a seed to keep his cash coming back. And he knows it. But the addiction - to not her, but the sex and the drugs - is the symptom of his pain. And that is all he cares about. His addiction.

It's about addiction (sexual and/or drugs), self hate, lack of self esteem and inability to cope with the day to day challenges this world deals everyone on an everyday basis. This song is about tragedy and being down on your life in general. Using others (the prostitute - that aint no stripper), drugs and all. The fame part is the power trip that every man - be he a politician or not - seams to believe he possesses over women and objects ... Giving money for sex is a power trip. And the fact that the character is a politician just is a way for the director to portray that power in the video.

This is a video portrayal of inner pain manifesting itself in drugs and sex. Remember Elliot Spitzer? Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinski?

Many men have secret lives. I'd say about 75% of them. Anywhere from mild - like riding a motor bike or taking ballet on weekends - to dressing up in a wig and mini skirt, painting their nails or using sex and prostitutes to 'ease' their daily frustrations or yes, pain.

The lyrics are intense and in your face. Make no mistake about it, this song is about addiction - pure inner pain.
