UNKLE – Rabbit In Your Headlights Lyrics 9 years ago
That's perfect, beautiful, it brought tears to my eyes. Thank you. As to the muttering, I view it as an aspect of the madness the depths of his jacket of woe present. It reminds me of my mind in the depths of my "Purely Obsessional OCD", a disorder that leads the patient to ruminate obsessively on distressing thoughts and fears and pains and aiming to seek out an answer to the questions they pose to no relief, repeating the same thoughts over and over in the mind or out loud in order to reach some sort of reassurance and clarity in the name of feeling mentally secure, just, righteous and pure. The man in the jacket overthrows this jacket of the madness that drives him to weigh the world upon his shoulders out of fear and the pain and negativity and delusion by believing in himself and shedding his fears.

Portishead – The Rip Lyrics 10 years ago
This is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. To me, it is a lot less depressing than what many others here are feeling.

I see the first stanza as the singer reflecting upon herself and all the doubt and uncertainty she encounters and the bitterness that arises in life, but she realizes that love flows and that is what matters.

The chorus expresses the way the course of life sweeps us away like a riptide and that her feelings send the darkness and pain away and underneath, leaving her wondering if and wishing she could follow the ways of the riptide.

The third stanza shows the singer again encountering horrible suffering and doubt and a general dissatisfaction for life and the way things are.

Then as the song begins to take on a more upbeat pace, the chorus again arises in a different form to elaborate the singer's wondering if she can be swept away by the riptide of love with new a hopeful and optimistic outlook.

Radiohead – All I Need Lyrics 10 years ago
I agree with you entirely here. The song is used in a fitting fashion in a video for MTV's Exit Campaign which dealt with exploitation and human trafficking, here it is comparing the life of a well-off Western kid to a kid forced to work in an Asian factory to make shoes. To me it's about the people who are offered no voice and no future, those who are in plain sight but are not seen. The ignored, the marginalized, the outcasts, the world-weary, the exploited.

Radiohead – Weird Fishes/Arpeggi Lyrics 10 years ago
"In the deepest ocean, the bottom of the sea. Your eyes, they? turn me"

"Everybody leaves if they get the chance, and this is my chance.

"I get eaten by the worms and weird fishes."

"I hit the bottom and escape."

Love this. Thom is known to have dabbled in? Buddhism. From an optimistic perspective, which is typically rare in Radiohead songs, I think it's about being caught in a dull perspective of the world under pressure and suffering and wanting to escape, and thus escaping through following beauty and returning to the bottom, and becoming one with the universe and accepting it as it is. Otherwise, it's simply about wanting to hopelessly escape the problems of our lives and reality.

Thom Yorke – The Clock Lyrics 11 years ago
It's about those in power throwing our planet's future away while there are other forces in control.

World leaders and corporations throw coins in a wishing well, making believe that they are still in charge while the planet dies and humanity perishes. They convince themselves that they can live on short-term gain. Overpopulation, hunger, climate change, pollution, war, corruption. Time is running out for us, for all of us. It is only a matter of time before it is too late. Wake up.

Muse – Madness Lyrics 11 years ago
It's a song about the realization of the reality and the value and significance of love. I have finally seen the light, I have finally realized I need to love.

A relationship is not perfect; it will have its problems, arguments, hardships, and flaws. It's about realizing that these imperfections don't matter because love is worth it. There are two basic motivating forces in life; fear and love. Love saves us from fear and suffering. It's about realizing that all love is madness, but we must pursue it nonetheless because we need to love, we need to experience the beauty of having something so great to live and care for.

Björk – Unravel Lyrics 11 years ago
I think some people are misinterpreting the intended meaning to this song. It is a song about missing someone very deeply. It reminds me of a quote by John Lennon, “There are two basic motivating forces: fear and love. When we are in love, we open to all that life has to offer with passion, excitement, and acceptance. When we are afraid, we pull back from life."

It's about needing love to survive, and falling apart when it is away. One of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.

While you are away, my heart comes undone. I fall apart, unraveled in a ball of yarn. Without you I fall apart, fall to a dark place. I fall into the devil's hands, a symbol of all of the negativity, pain and sorrow in the world. Without you, I am nothing. The darkness eats my eats my heart and soul away. Without love, I live in fear.

She speaks of missing someone, someone she needs and can't live without. When you come back, we'll have to make new love, and all will be better. When this person returns, her love will return with him and everything will be better.

Radiohead – High and Dry Lyrics 11 years ago
It's a song about the will to find some kind of hope after losing yourself in life and being left "high and dry", which means, "stranded without help or hope of recovery" with the loss of, "the best thing that you ever had".
