System of a Down – P.L.U.C.K. Lyrics 10 years ago
I'll break this song down for you and explain how it's about the Armenian Genocide of 1915, committed by the Turkish government.

First of all, System of a Down is Armenian, and they don't agree with most politics since they enforce death in order to bring peace and prosperity just for their own sake. Usually, innocent lives are at stake here.

"Elimination, die, walk down" - The slaughter of innocents, walking down to their graves. There is no heaven or hell, just death six feet under.

"A whole race genocide, taken away all of our pride.
A whole race, genocide, taken away, watch them all fall down" - The influence of the 1.5 million deaths of Armenians due to the genocide was a whole race genocide, it took away all of Armenia's pride. The entire country (in soad's opinion) fell down as a whole due to Turkey.

"Revolution, the only solution
The armed response of an entire nation" - If the nation does not agree with its treatment, it is quick to change the way of action that's currently going on. Revolution can be any change that quickly changes things in a country/part of the world, but this is usually done with war (armed response.)

"Revolution, the only solution
We've taken all your shit, now it's time for restitution" - Population is fed up with the way they're being treated, so they rebel.

"Recognition, restoration, reparation" - The three things that have to happen until the Armenian people are at peace, they want the American government to recognise the Armenian genocide as a genocide which happened out of Turkey's government, after that recognition the Armenian honour will be restored, and eventually their sense of pride will be repaired. System of a Down has protested against Obama for not recognising the American Genocide, even though he has promised to do so five times, just to keep the American Armenians voting for him. The title P.L.U.C.K. refers to the lies and deceit of politicians in ANY situation. Politically, Lying, Unholy, Coward, Killers, all the things politicians really are.

"The plan was mastered and called genocide
Took all the children and then we died
The few that remained were never found" - Basically the impact of the genocidal act that Turkey undertook, they killed the youth and those that survived the killings went missing, eventually trying to wipe out all Armenians through this kind of killing.

"All in a system
Down, down, down
Walk down" - Genocide is the systematic killing of an entire group of people, 'down' is referring to where the people go to, six feet under the ground, or just in mass graves, which is more common for genocides. System of a Down's band name is pretty much based upon this song, as they were first known as Soil. Soil can refer to the ground under which all the dead are buried, or just the soil of the Earth, which should be protected and nurtured by mankind. Since System of a Down is known for being pro-earth during live concerts, it can reflect to all of that.

System of a Down – Mind Lyrics 10 years ago
"Free thinkers are dangerous" - The motto for a totalitarian state, in which children are 'mentally molested' for the state's ideals. If you've seen or read 1984 you'll understand this song more in the sense of totalitarian and opression, which is what these lyrics CAN relate to.

"Gonna let you mother fuckers die" - The state cares little for its civilians, and would rather eradicate those who are disloyal than reward those who are loyal.

"Look at eachother" - A reflection on how people can lose their humanity by being isolated from social contact. Social contact is being limited in a totalitarian state since it encourages self-thought, something that cannot be permitted in such a society. Looking at eachother is the one social principle that keeps us from turning into monster.

"Lives rearranged and lives in my range" - The state is able to influence its citizens from birth, being born into a state ideal makes them more loyal, brainless and unthinking, until the point they will no longer be able to rebel against the government.

Even in today's society of the western world free thinkers are a danger to the status quo. We know System of a Down is very anti-government, especially in their first album and demo tapes, so explaining it from an anti-government point of view reflects on most of the lyrics.

Metallica – Leper Messiah Lyrics 11 years ago
But you're the one that believes something which was believed by people 6,000 years ago. People back then were pretty easy to scare with 'Listen to me, I have this book! Which says how we have to live! And if you don't live like this and don't believe in my God, your soul shall be tortured for eternity when you are dead! Now give me your money, so that you will not live your life in hell!"

You wish to apply logic to belief to disprove an atheist's belief of no belief, yet think there's an imaginary man up in the sky that cares about EVERYTHING you do.

We have sciene. We can prove things. You have a book written by corrupt, power and money hungry people that were just sophisticated enough to trick people into believing such nonsense.

Metallica – Disposable Heroes Lyrics 11 years ago
I've always felt this song is about how soldiers are treated as 'Disposable heroes', as being a soldier is to be considered a 'hero's' job in the eyes of civilians, they're just taking a bullet for the old men back home that started the war.

Bodies fill the fields I see, hungry heroes end
No one to play soldier now, no one to pretend

No more children's dreams of being a soldier and a hero when you're older, this shit's for real and you're quick to realise.

Running blind through killing fields, bred to kill them all
Victim of what said should be, a servant 'til I fall

Basically what you go through during a battle, 'running blind through killing fields', 'bred to kill them all' refering to how you're trained to fire a weapon, but born to kill others.

Soldier boy, made of clay
Now an empty shell
Twenty one, only son
But he served us well
Bred to kill, not to care
Just do as we say
Finished here, greeting Death
He's yours to take away

Every soldier is an individual, the government acts as if it's a huge loss to lose one soldier to the relatives, but for those he fought for he was nothing but a pawn.

Back to the front
You will do, what I say, when I say
Back to the front
you will die, when I say, you must die
Back to the front

If you're called in for duty, you MUST go. Soldiers of the Red Army (The USSR's Army) always had to keep moving forward to the German lines, with or without a weapon, which were scarce anyhow, seeing as 25 million Red Army soldiers have died during WW2. Just cannon fodder. And if the soldiers ran back to their 'comrades', they would get shot by them.

You coward
You servant
You blind man

You're signing up to be used as a pawn, you're a servant and a blind man.

Barking of machine gun fire, does nothing to me now
Sounding of the clock that ticks, got used to it somehow

Living in war the entire time somehow gets people used to it, no longer questioning whatever orders they get and blindly running into machine gun fire. Kinda tying in with the whole 'Master of Puppets' idea.

More a man, more stripes you bare, glory seeker trends
Bodies fill the fields I see, the slaughter never ends

Generals always have a lot of medals and stripes, soldiers are basically drawn in by the stripes you get for killing others. But you're quick to realise the fields are just filling with bodies, slaughter never ending.

Why, am I dying
Kill, have no fear
Lie, live off lying
Hell, hell is here

I was born for dying!

Realisation what a mistake it was to join the army, and therefore thinking he was born just to die for his 'country'.

Life planned out before my birth, nothing could I say
Had no chance to see myself, molded day by day
Looking back I realize, nothing have I done
Left to die with only friend, alone I clench my gun

Being all alone on a battlefield with all your friends dead around, what else can you do but clench your gun tight and hum this song.

Metallica – Escape Lyrics 11 years ago
This song is about escaping the mindless self-indulgence of today's society, by not being a part of the so-called system, to no longer live your life in redundancy, and to be your own fucking person. Don't live your life like the rest, be out there!

The prison sirens in the background in the end are to strengthen the feeling of escaping, which has a really strong effect if you realise that.

Actually, this is the 'radio-friendly' song that was suppose to make Metallica better known in the music industry. Therefore it has never been played live before up until 2012.

No, you ignorant bastard below me, Kill 'em All was made to fight again the 'glam' metal and mainstream shit. Kill 'em All has the FUCK YOU, WE RULE attitude and straight-forward lyrics, being a very fast and furious record to divide the posers from the metalheads. Ride the Lightning has NOTHING to do with fighting glam metal, Metallica just continued their crusade to take over the world by writing deeper lyrics and more complicated songs up until the Black Album, which is where Metallica got their mainstream success from by playing less heavy, and more to the public.

Just by watching one documentary and using a lot of curse words while drafting an angry comment, doesn't make you a 'true' Metallica fan, and stating something simple-minded as "LISTEN TO THE FUCKING SONG YOU POSERS" is just as stupid as saying this song is about killing posers, which you did.
Hypocrite.

Metallica – Fight Fire With Fire Lyrics 11 years ago
Fight fire with fire, the title, ties in perfect with the lyrics.
Also with the time, being written in the '80s, when the fear of nuclear warfare between the United States and the USSR was still strong.

"Do unto others, as they have done unto you", if either the United States or the USSR launched a nuclear missile first at one another, it would be counteracted with another nuclear missle.

"But what the hell is this world coming to", how can we live in a world where two huge countries, who should be setting an example for the rest of the world, are threatening eachother with nuclear missiles?

Rest of the lyrics are pretty self-explanatory.

Metallica – To Live Is to Die Lyrics 11 years ago
This instrumental masterpiece orchestrates the loss of Cliff Burton in every way, shape and form. The lyrics which describe the accident, also being part of Cliff's favorite poem, the effect of his death on the band is heard very well in these lyrics. The instrumental pieces perfectly describe the five stages of grief, starting out with denial and isolation, later building up into anger (during the first solo), after that the stage of bargaining, about how it could've been avoided as the music changes to a calmer, more gentle tune. Suddenly all the music stops and a soft guitar starts playing, which marks the stage of depression, slowly building up into a repeat of the feelings of anger, but then finally fades back slowly to the gentle opening, marking the acceptance and lament of Cliff's death.

R.I.P. Cliff Burton, an inspiration to all.

@jugzar, I totally agree with you, but I think flamethrowers are also a very, very crude weapon of war. Whoever thought 'I wanna set those people over there on fire' to win a war, deserves the worst.

Metallica – Master of Puppets Lyrics 11 years ago
Quite obviously this song is about how drug addiction takes over somebody, and eventually ruins their life. The 'Master' being the drug, and the 'Puppet' being the user.

End of passion play, crumbling away
I'm your source of self-destruction

Person is starting to experience the negative effects of drugs, the addiction. It's no longer to feel good, but to stop feeling bad.

Veins that pump with fear, sucking darkest clear
Leading on your death's construction

Afraid to lose the 'good' feeling drugs give, but also constructing their own death.

Taste me you will see
More is all you need
Dedicated to
How I'm killing you

Come crawling faster
Obey your Master
Your life burns faster
Obey your Master
Master

The craving for the next high is symbolised here, how you'll crawl faster and die faster by 'Obeying' the 'Master'; giving in to your next dosage.

Master of Puppets I'm pulling your strings
Twisting your mind, smashing your dreams
Blinded by me, you can't see a thing
Just call my name, 'cause I'll hear you scream
Master
Master
Just call my name, 'cause I'll hear you scream
Master
Master

Chorus is pretty straight-forward, drugs ruin one's life, totally blinded and screaming for more. 'Master, master!', the puppet screams.

Needlework the way, never you betray
Life of death becoming clearer
Pain monopoly, ritual misery
Chop your breakfast on a mirror

You'll find yourself doing drugs for breakfast, 'chopping' one's breakfast on a mirror symbolises the way cocaine is taken in, being 'chopped' up into a line using a straight razor and then inhaled through the nose. Doing so on a mirror is to symbolise how one watches his own destruction, due to this.

Here the song breaks down, going into a calm, instrumental bit until it builds up to a fierce guitar solo. You can assume here that the Puppet has tried to free himself from his Master's reign, by no longer using the drugs. But because the craving for another high rises, the song speeds up and becomes more aggressive, showing the Puppet has been tied by his Master's strings again.

Master, Master, where's the dreams that I've been after?
Master, Master, you promised only lies
Laughter, laughter, all I hear or see is laughter
Laughter, laughter, laughing at my cries
Fix me!

"Fix me!", kinda shows the user was feeling broken without his daily dose, and therefore gives in again to the Master.

Hell is worth all that, natural habitat
Just a rhyme without a reason

Here the Master soothes its Puppet into believing his addiction is a good thing.

Neverending maze, drift on numbered days
Now your life is out of season
I will occupy
I will help you die
I will run through you
Now I rule you too

Addicted again, the Puppet is assumed to be dead at the end of the song as we hear laughter, mocking the Puppet for ever giving in to the Master of Puppets.
