Serj Tankian – Ching Chime Lyrics 11 years ago
If you're referring to my comment, I wasn't saying that I shared those exact view points. Hell, I download free music all the time. I just sort of thought that's what the song might have been about, didn't mean to cause any upset or to guilt people. I completely understand not being able to pay a dollar for 500 songs that you could just get free, and hopefully most musicians will value fans over money :)

Serj Tankian – Ching Chime Lyrics 11 years ago
Woah, dude chill. I'm not saying that money is all he wants, but Serj did say in an interview "The piracy of music has caused a contraction in the industry as we know it, which in turn, has caused labels to focus even less on artist development and focus on the few easy hits. The reach of music and the popular rise of music listening has risen dramatically further through piracy and that's great, of course. So it's really not an easy thing to take sides on. I think people should support artists financially so that artists continue what they do best and not be forced to look for other avenues of expression or income. You see many more artists touring than making records because that's more profitable. That's not good for the recording of records." Though I really am flattered that you created an account just for me, thank you :)

Escape the Fate – The Ransom Lyrics 11 years ago
This makes me think of someone who betrayed their friend/someone who cared for or tried to help them and is trying to justify hurting them, seeing them as naive and weak.

"Sending shivers right down your spine. It's something that you're prone to, so divine."-His way of calling whomever he's talking to weak minded. Since getting shivers down your spine often indicates being afraid or disturbed.

"You were better at lies"- He's calling the persons kindness or friendship a lie, though it most likely wasn't.

"When ropes are wrapped around your limbs"- The ropes are supposed to symbolize him, or the pain he's caused weighing the other person down.

"Breathing slowly never worked for me, I cut the throat of betrayal to watch him bleed... I feel your love, don't leave me behind"- This part confused me a bit. I see it as him having a momentary change of heart. Trying to"cut the throat of betrayal" and begging the person to be there for him, though I can also see it as him just being manipulative.

"The smell of vanity, it went away. ..We traced our veins (we bled for days)
The current was strong enough tonight"- . Tracing their veins and bleeding is a metaphor for letting their emotions spill out like blood and building a bond (at least in the others eyes), which shows he's regained their trust. It could also always be seen as a memory of an earlier time in their friendship.

"I can't taste any more. It lasted on my tongue. You weren't strong enough to say."- He's going back to his old ways. The bond means almost nothing to him anymore, though it still, metaphorically, "lasts on his tongue". He knows they're not strong enough to fully admit to themselves that someone they cared for would be so horrible.

"Grab my heart, take this down with your soul, and bury it in the ground"- He's pretty much saying his heart is useless, and their soul soon will be too because they cared for his heart. To me it's sort of a poetic way of calling himself heartless and telling the other person he could care less about them (though I do believe he actually does still care a bit, despite what he put them through).

I really love the next part. I always felt that the screaming is supposed to be his "bad side" and the singing is supposed to be the part that feels some remorse. He's pretty much having an internal battle.

"I talked to you today, I heard the tremble in your voice."- He decided to call them up after not speaking with them in a while. It's obvious that they immediately become nervous and upset, though they try to hide it.

"I know you'll never change"- Kindness and love is in their nature. His bad side is blaming them for this.

"So please just hold on"- His remorseful side is asking them to not be destroyed by what he or anyone else has done and to just "hold on" to life.

"I know it's hard for you. It's hard to understand betrayal within."- Because of the persons kind nature it's hard for them to fully understand why people who pretended to care would betray and hurt others and even harder to recover from being betrayed.

"There is a fine line between betrayal and your friends."- He's telling them that the closer they become to someone the more likely they will be to betray them, either intentionally or accidentally.

Serj Tankian – Falling Stars Lyrics 11 years ago
I always thought this song could be about parents trying to protect their child from the world and having to see the horrible aspects of it to the point where they completely shield them from what's happening.

"Pain, your every step. When you fooled enough to want to die. When you cry you will find falling stars drain every night"- This is directed towards the parents. They feel horrible about 'fooling' their kid and hiding them and have to deal with that guilt everyday. I think the "falling stars drain every night" thing is referring to their tears/guilt being drained away in the end because they decide that shielding their child is the best thing to do.

I see the spoken poetry reading as pretty much being the "voice of truth".
In the background he's sings "Why can't you see that I always belong to me?"- I think this is actually being said by the child. As they got older they started to see how screwed up the world can truly be which was pretty much a huge slap in the face to them. I imagine this being what they would yell at their parents when questioning why they hid them from the world for so long and didn't just let them live their life.

"Why can't you see that you always belong..."- This is the parent's reply. They stop themselves before finishing it which could be for multiple reasons.

"I can't believe that you wanted me so much pain."- Again being said by the child. They end up resenting their parents and feeling hurt because they've just realized the horrors of humanity and they don't know how to deal with it.

While I'm not quite sure what the specific meaning of this song is, I think it has something to do with the unfairness of the music industry or how artist are losing money because people pirate their music instead of actually supporting them.

I kind of thought this song was about someone who was contemplating suicide, trying to talk themselves either into or out of it.

Coldplay – 42 Lyrics 11 years ago
To me this song is about falling into depression due to some sort of disappointment or loss in life.

"Those who are dead, are not dead. They're just living in my head." "The dead" is meant to symbolize lost memories, hopes, loved ones, etc. Even though they seem dead they're still alive inside his mind because he can't let them go.

"Since I fell for that spell I am living there as well." To me the spell= depression or whatever led to the depression. It's causing him to live in his head because he doesn't want to face reality.

"Time is so short and I'm sure there must be something more." He knows there's more to life than what he's lost, but he just can't seem to find it.

"You thought you might be a ghost. You didn't get to heaven but you made it close." The music starts to sounds upbeat and the narration POV seems to change from him talking to someone else to either someone talking to him or him talking to himself. I think this new voice is supposed to be positive.

"You thought you might be a ghost." He felt dead inside and started to forget he was even actually alive.

"You didn't get to heaven but you made it close." He didn't quite get where he wanted in life, but he did at least make it close and had the chance to feel happiness because of that which is something to be thankful for.

System of a Down – Mind Lyrics 11 years ago
I know this most likely isn't what the song was written about, but I interpret it as what goes through someones mind when they start to resent someone or just people in general. Sorry if this ends up being super long.

In the beginning the music's calm which conveys a feeling of peace. He's saying things like "Come close to me, let me love you...Look at each other." This is supposed to show the love that he has for people. The "look at each other" is him wanting people to get along, asking them to just look at each other and be happy.

I see the music trailing off and getting momentarily silent as either a random realization or something that suddenly happened that made him realize how horrible people are/can be. The music starts to sound angry. "Go away!" Just wanting to be alone and to get away from everyone was the initial response to his anger.

"Mutually, mentally molested children" He sees people as being mentally molested by the media, things that they've been told by their parents, religion, the issues they've had in life, etc. Pretty much everyone's screwed up because of something and many are blind to that fact.

"Oh, no. The ever so popular beating that took you under" Could be referring to what happens in someones life that gives them the "negative" personality characteristics that they end up growing up with. The "beating" could also be referring to what the narrator went through that changed his views on humanity. Or, since the "oh no" makes it sound somewhat sarcastic (or maybe that's just me) it could be directed towards people that tend to constantly complain about what they went though in life and use that as an excuse for the bad things that they do. Just some ideas.

"Free thinkers are dangerous." He's mocking how people tend to be closed minded and dislike views that are different from theirs or just different from the norm in general. He feels that he's been a victim of their closed mindedness.

"Need the ones you love and love the ones you need" I see this as either him trying to calm himself down, reminding himself that despite his anger he still cares about and needs the people he loves. Or he's saying it almost mockingly, asking himself if he really does need or love the people that surround him.

"Gonna let you mother fuckers die" To me, this is the climax of the song. Instead of literally saying he would let someone die he's pretty much just saying "Screw all of you, I'm done."

The music gets significantly slower and he again repeats "look at each other". He ends up feeling horrible and wants to get rid of his resentful feelings, still begging people (or maybe himself) to get along.
