also, forgot- the "one look from you and i would fall from grace, and that would wipe this smile right off my face" he says this because he feels in some way responsible for the person she is now and if he were ever to run across her again and see first hand who she has become, it would bring him down into guilt |

this song is written from the perspective of a man who had a friend/girlfriend from the time they were young who he promised, basically, he would never let down. he did, though, and he regrets it. however, over time she has become a person consumed by a certain lifestyle and here she is in 1982, her youth fading, the clubs are stale to her and she doesn't really care about what's going on in the world- she's just catching the pearl and riding the dragon's wings i.e. heroin. her eyes used to shine but now she's just a broken women who will end up alone and unhappy, constantly remembering her youth and that heat of the moment. this is a great story song from the era of excess. |
