Nirvana – Where Did You Sleep Last Night (Lead Belly cover) Lyrics 11 years ago
I think it's a guy singing about his girl cheating on him.
The 1st verse is him accusing her of the cheating "last night" when she didn't come home.
The 2nd verse is him leaving her, which is lonely, cold and dark. Like being alone in a forest is how he feels. Maybe it's a "pine" forest because he'll be pining (adj. for yearning, suffering)?
And the 3rd verse that's only said once is the guy's obituary from third person. A "hard working man," we are sympathetic with him when he's cheated on, and he apparently drives off and kills himself in a wreck. This is probably a sarcastic remark you might make after breaking up with someone, like "bye, screw you, I'm gonna go drive off a bridge!".
To me, this song has a different meaning than the original folk version, having different lyrics. Probably why Kurt chose it as it must have spoken to him more.

I think it's Death, or some other similar idea, talking to an individual who seems to definitely be flirting with the idea of suicide. I'd say it's mostly a cautionary song, it seems like a warning not to fuck around with dying, but if you wanna try it, he can always help out... Like Death's sort of using reverse psychology on him, similar to, say, you offer someone water and they decline, and then you're like "okay, fine if you don't, but I'll just have this tall, cool glass of water here if you get thirsty, you know, when your mouth gets so dry and scratcy..." Not exactly like that, but similar.

I guess i didn't hit on many specific lyrics, but they seem pretty polysemous to me, so this is basically what I imagine the message is that Death is hinting at.

Queens of the Stone Age – A Song For The Deaf Lyrics 12 years ago
Might be a pretty general idea, but I think it's about him not sensing that a relationship with some girl who breaks his heart is coming to its end, and it renders him "senseless". I think some of the lyrics up there might be wrong so it could change my interpretation though.

But the first verse is him all alone and sees "her" in his broken reflection (he's obsessed over it cuz he sees her in his reflection, which I'm guessing is a mirror, since I think he says he's "outta luck" not "had a look"). Both choruses are talking about him "getting" how things really were between them, and he's desperate and wants to take whats left between them, which will not be fixed or saved by any talk from himself or anyone.

The 2nd and 3rd verses are him being left senseless and trapped in his depression, and he feels like just killing the whole world. The verse about being in a ditch could mean something else depending on the real words, but I think that's just him in hate-life mode. And the last verse just pretty much reiterates and provides a little more detail about the whole shebang, what with him getting blindsided and shit on by this "beautiful cancer" (pretty self explanatory metaphor there). So yyyup that's pretty much what I think this is about, but that could just be cuz I've had my own girl problems lately :X haha
