I'm so tired of people saying every single song that was ever done by Depeche Mode is about drugs. It's so narrow-minded and actually kind of shallow. To Hollygayface - no, he didn't do it for his fans, you obviously know nothing about drugs and addiction... we're all lucky he isn't dead. There was genius before, and there is genius after. Lastly, Martin Gore is the writer, not David Gahan. So David, in this song, outside of his voice, is telling us nothing. That being said, this song is one of my favorites. David Gahan's voice is absolutely incredible, sexy, haunting, desperate, so much more than anyone's voice should be able to encapsulate in a mere 5 minutes. The lyrics are some of MG's best. I think this is about obsessing over someone that stringing you along... and all the shame and desperation involved. Not a hard-on and a needle. They are so much more than that. |
