To me he sounds like he is starting to get deep feelings for a girl but he is too scared so he gives her the heads up. "And never believe I won't turn on you And never believe I do this for you..." Sounds like he has all these complex emotions, he loves her but there is too much fear in him and could turn on her at any moment and run away without a word. His actions are not for her benefit but at the same time they are not caused by her personally but rather his own defenses. "You're leading me on again And I find it yeah I like it" He likes what she is making him feel and this freaks him out so he says: "How I wish I could be rid of this ennui Make you regret and make you afraid of me He wants to push her away. "And never believe I do this for me" He is not doing this for his own selfish benefit. He is just scared. "And never believe I'll do this gently" When he pushes her away, it won't be through an open and rational conversation. He will probably act heaps strange and maybe even mean because of all of his intense and complicated feelings. "I'll tell you it's all for you Then deny it" This is where his feelings are really getting complicated. After saying through the song that he doesn't do this for her and doesn't do this for him, he then says it's all for you then denies it. All of his complicated and strange actions based on fear are really caused by the love he feels for her deep down but he doesn't want to show it. Even though it may not look like love on the surface from her view, it's all for her. |

To me this song is about crossing boundaries where you feel you shouldn't. "out of mind" The mind has more control but when we out of our minds and in our Hearts or just following our feelings we have no "sight" of what is wrong or right. Feeling "overwhelmed" by the feelings that are taking over, whatever they may be about. "I'm feeling out of bounds, out of bounds I'm running out of time, out of time. I know there's no such thing as either of them but it doesn't make me feel any better." There is no such thing as boundaries because we are all connected on some deeper/unconscious level and no such thing as time because we infinite spirits living a human life. The main message I get from this song is being out of your mind and into your Heart or feelings and sometimes they may lead us somewhere which crosses boundaries in this world. |

From the video clip and reading what Maynard wrote about this song, that finding a soul mate is rare and the only way to approach them is by dropping all preconceptions and collapsing into the arms of vulnerability. I would say this song is about seeing someone at a soul level with the third eye (3 Libras) or eye of the soul, whatever you want to call it. Seeing their true self, beyond physical identity and labels. Seeing through all their masks and different personalities and you can only do this when you Love someone. In the clip Maynard has his shirt off which represents vulnerability and revealing yourself. That is the only way to get close to another, by taking of your mask and becoming naked (vulnerable). He shows himself but she is blinded by her own wounds, fears, obsessions etc. She can see him physically but not who he really is inside and he can sense that. She looks at him like he just everyone else she has met. |

Tool are very spiritual and Triad could also be related to trinity or 3. Balance of mind, body and soul which equalls completion. Opposite energies balanced which end up with wholeness being the third element. The points of triangles are all connected balancing each other out. That's how I interpret it anyways. It's an intrumental song and it's suppose to be personal to us as well as Tool. Doesn't mean we will have the same meaning and they know that. It's how we feel when we listen to it which projects what's inside us. |
