Geoff Moore – Evolution...Redefined Lyrics
| 6 months ago
|
I remember liking this song back in the day, when I was caught up in the world of evangelical Christianity. Embarrassed to admit that today!
"All living things despite their awesome diversity / Are related to each other."
This line was spoken by the teacher, in a very mocking kind of voice, like the teacher is completely clueless. In actuality, it's one of the only truths said in this song.
"I believe in evolution,
Ask me no questions, I'll tell you no lies.
It's the only possible solution,
Big Bang fiction, that we factualize"
As usual, anti-science Christians don't see the irony in thinking that it's science that says "ask me no questions", when it's religion that does that. Try putting your hand up during a Sunday sermon to say to the preacher, "I have a problem with that".
Religious people continually say how nothing can possibly exist without being created ("Big Bang fiction"). Well then, that would also apply to God. |

Or depending where you're from, the only song they thought anyone would know of Blur's. ;) |

When I was a kid, when Thriller was #1 on the charts, there wasn't music that black people listened to and music that white people listened to .. there was just music! Thanks for the great music you left behind Mikey. |

That'd be hard since this came out in 1999, while Damon's Gorillaz didn't release an album till 2001. ;) |

Yes, it's one of my favourite videos ever. Reminds me of the 80s when musicians actually did put of lot of thought and effort into making them! |

I can remember loving this song when it came out, thinking how clever it was. Still is, and it's sort of humourous (I guess), but there really is no such thing as hell. |

Check out the "Beagle 2 Remix" version if you want a fuller version. It's pretty far out, man. |

Nice shoes (or nice anything) doesn't actually make you feel less lonely (hence the "I sleep alone" bit). |

Rush – BU2B Lyrics

Sorry, but the days of quiet atheists are over. And with the freedom to communicate ideas more easily than ever (via the Internet), I'm sure more and more people will wake up to the notion that gods were never real to begin with, and the power and influence of the religious will continue to diminish. |

Reading that made me realize how relieved I am to be on the outside of the Christian bubble after spending years inside of it. |

It seems to be about a person who doesn't think he will die tonight. But if he did, he wouldn't realize it, since he would be dead. |

Billy Joel – Lullabye (Goodnight, My Angel) Lyrics

Written for his daughter Alexa (who's also in the song titled "Downeaster Alexa", of course).
Not to nit-pick, but it is spelled "Lullabye". ;)

I love how unashamedly British they are, and don't try to sing in an American accent (like some bands do, I think). Good song. |

You can get so caught up in long-term goals and plans that you forget to live in the now.
(Just my non-drug interpretation of this great rock song. Thank God someone kept non-depressing rock music alive in the 90s.) |

Genesis – Jesus He Knows Me Lyrics

"Do as I say, don't do as I do."
That line pretty much sums up preachers in general if you ask me, whether they're televangelists or your everyday pastor, seeing as how asking people for money is generally looked down upon if you're not a "spiritual leader". |

I grew up listening to songs like this (I was 13 when it was on the charts), and find it pitiful that kids think someone like Bieber has even a speck of talent.
Just an observation. ;) |

It says on the liner notes from the album that the song was inspired by "Interview with the Vampire", so perhaps the song is from the perspective of a vampire. |

Paul Simon – The Obvious Child Lyrics
|
That's because you're Christian (fundy, no doubt), and you are only capable of seeing things through Jesus-coloured glasses. Paul Simon is Jewish, for one thing, so thinking he's on some Christian bandwagon is ludicrous. For another, being a Bible-believer, you do realize that God is the greatest aborter of all-time (the Genesis Flood), don't you? |

R.E.M. – Losing My Religion Lyrics

Chris Martin and Michael Stipe did an excellent version of this song at the 12-12-12 concert!
And oh yeah, "losing my religion" is not about losing one's religious belief whatsoever. It means "losing one's temper". I guess people read into things what they want to. |

Yawn. The phrase "losing my religion" is used in the southern US (where R.E.M. is from) and means "losing one's temper". |
