You are correct. The line actually is "That her nose had told the story." Whoever wrote the lyrics on this page was wrong.

Level 42 – Something About You Lyrics 11 years ago
Great song about a couple that is still together. Even though the "spark" is gone, they still love each other, and he stays. It's a truly beautiful song, because instead of all the phony "happily ever after" songs out there.... this one paints a more realistic picture of love in real life. Sometimes drab, and boring, but still real, and that's what matters.

Badfinger – Day After Day Lyrics 11 years ago
You would think that someone who could write such an eloquent song, would know the difference between "there" and "their." I would also expect you to know how to spell "recognition." /now stop trolling around the internet and making shit up. Pete Ham wrote Day After Day.

Nirvana – Drain You Lyrics 11 years ago
One baby to another says, "I'm lucky to have met you"

Baby saying to teenage mom that he is happy to have been born and thus meet her.

I don't care what you think unless it is about me

self explanatory. He just wants nourishment. He does not have the mental capabilities yet to care about much else.

It is now my duty to completely drain you

Raising a child is draining, especially for a teenage mom. Self explanatory here.

I travel through a tube and end up in your infection

He travels through the filopian tubes, and is born into the "infection" that is his life and this earth.

Chew your meat for you
Pass it back and forth in a passionate kiss
From my mouth to yours
I like you -

Extremely self explanatory

With eyes so dilated, I've became your pupil

Baby is ready to learn from mom.

You've taught me everything about a poison apple

Could be referencing the mom reading him fairy tales, because poison apples are in them. Also religion? I think it is just a reference to her teaching him in general of "fables" about how the world is not that bad of a place, but he knows better.

The water is so yellow
I'm a healthy student

His urine is yellow, which is a sign of good health.

Indebted and so grateful
Vacuum out the fluids

He is grateful to have not been aborted.

Chew your meat for you
Pass it back and forth in a passionate kiss
From my mouth to yours
I like you, you, you, you, you, you

self explanatory

Concrete Blonde – Tomorrow, Wendy (Andy Prieboy cover) Lyrics 11 years ago
Wendy is critically ill and she commits suicide "tomorrow". Seems pretty cut and dried to me, but it's always interesting to read some of the outlandish interpretations on here.

The Church – Under The Milky Way Lyrics 11 years ago
Interesting to see that many interpret this as "he" the narrator being the one who hurts the girl. I always interpreted it the other way around. The narrator himself is the one who is seeking true love. The girl, however, is "looking for" something else, although she keeps coming back to him. Note the words......"got no time for private consultation"........he is saying that he is getting frustrated with her, in essence he is saying, if you're not going to be with me, stop treating this like a relationship by telling me all of your problems.

Also, "leads you here, despite your destination". She keeps coming back to him, despite her "destination" which is ultimately another guy who she deems a better fit for her, even though he wishes that would be him.

Lastly, the "loveless fascination" is what he is reflecting about. He doesn't understand why she keeps coming back, but doesn't love him like he loves her. It is her "loveless fascination" in him that drives him crazy.

Ultravox – Dancing With Tears In My Eyes Lyrics 11 years ago
Watch the music video. It's about nuclear war ending the world, and he spends his last night with his wife and child. If you watch the video and listen to the lyrics, there really isn't room for any other interpretation. This is one of the easier songs to interpret. It cracks me up how people try to interpret a song without even watching the video.

Soul Asylum – Black Gold Lyrics 11 years ago
The meaning of the song has been the topic of many debates. Some fans state that it simply is about racism and/or black soldiers fighting in a war ("You're a black soldier, white fight"). Other disagree and claim it is about the greed for oil (Black Gold is another term for oil). One other theory maintains that it is about the Gulf War and the obvious references to the Persian Gulf in the music video supports this theory. Dave Pirner is shown in the reflection of a pool which mirrors the shape of the Persian Gulf. Many lyrics from the song do match this idea. The lyrics "Two boys on a playground/trying to push each other down" could possibly mean the USA and Iraq fighting over "Black Gold". It has been theorized that the lines "Keeps the kids off the streets/gives 'em something to do, something to eat" could mean young men and women ("kids") joining the military. And there is the fact that at about 1:56 various noises are heard: ambulance sirens, screams, cries, and what appears to be a news cast, which could represent the war. Pirner himself stated that the song was about war at the Dogwood Festival in Fayetteville, NC on April 24, 2010. He also stated that he was against war.

You have an over active imagination. Watch the video. It's about the Gulf War.

R.E.M. – Driver 8 Lyrics 11 years ago
The "destination" is a better society. Interpret that whatever way you wish. The conductor is asking him to "take a break" from his debating and speaking about the changes they need to make in their society. The conductor agrees with his ideals though, when he says, "we can reach our destination", but acknowledges...."we're still a ways away.". The key word is "our", which illustrates that they are in agreement.

The lines regarding "faith", "crusade", "crescent" and "bells" are all clearly referencing religion. Driver 8 and the conductor are in agreement that religion is shit, but apparently in the area they live in, religion is quite popular.....to their dismay. Obviously, in any society, the less religion, the better, which is what they are trying to achieve. That is the "destination." The townsfolk and their close minded and misguided beliefs, are putting themselves to "sleep", and their children to "sleep.".....by passing down their nonsensical beliefs.....much to the dismay of the more educated driver 8 and conductor.

Peter Godwin – Images of Heaven Lyrics 11 years ago
When you're an illusion
You can still be divine

is actually "One true illusion, can still be divine"

It's about a guy who thinks he is in love with a girl he doesn't know. She may or not be famous. He is in love with the idea of her.....but he actually doesn't know her.......thus the line "you don't exist"

Better Than Ezra – Desperately Wanting Lyrics 11 years ago
This song has nothing to do with any fraternity. It's about two friends, one who has his life together (the one narrating if you will), and his friend who has screwed up his or her life with drugs due to a poor upbringing. Just read the lyrics and you can clearly see that.

The Killers – Jenny Was a Friend of Mine Lyrics 11 years ago
Some strange interpretations. I think its clearly about a guy who develops deeper feelings for Jenny, who sees him more as a friend, although I suspect they may have neem intimate. They go for a walk in the rain like usual, but when he professes his love for her it doesn't go as well as he had hoped, and when she tries to leave, he "held her close".......strangling her to death. Clearly the second verse is the dialogue between the cops and him during the interrogation. Pretty straight forward there.

Ratt – Givin' Yourself Away Lyrics 11 years ago
Interesting interpretation. I think it's simply about a girl who dumped him because she wanted "all her freedom, and all her time" like he refers to in the second verse. But despite her efforts to display to him that she doesn't need him, she keeps calling him, and keeps finding ways to have him in her life. She is that crazy girlfriend we all had in our teenage years who "broke up" with us, but would always keep calling afterwards to prove to us that she was "doing fine", when in reality she was more upset about it than you are.

Pearl Jam – Footsteps Lyrics 11 years ago
The song is actually a singular entity and it's about a guy who commits suicide after his girlfriend breaks up with him.

Don't even think about reachin' me, I won't be home (because he's dead)
Don't even think about stoppin' by, don't think of me at all
I did, what I had to do, if there was a reason, it was you... (He killed himself because of her - in his mind)

Aah...don't even think about gettin' inside
Voices in me head...ooh, voices
I got scratches, all over my arms (Slit wrists, and/or track marks from drugs)
One for each day, since I fell apart (Cutting himself)
I did...oh, what I had to do, if there was a reason, it was you (see above)

Footsteps in the hall, it was you, you...oh... (Metaphor for remembering her visits to him in the past)
Pictures on my chest, it was you, it was you... (He was looking at pics of her as he lay dying)

Hey...I did, what I had to do...oh, and if there was a reason
Oh, there wasn't no reason, no (Acknowledgement that he is using her as an "excuse" for his deep rooted depression, and that this was inevitable)
And if, there's something you'd like to do
Just let me continue, to blame you (Again, acknowledging that he is "blaming" her for his sad state of mind)

Footsteps in the hall, it was you, you...oh...
Pictures on my chest, it was you, you...oh...

Sponge – Molly (Sixteen Candles) Lyrics 11 years ago
Its clearly about a guy finding his 16 year old girlfriend dead in the tub after she commited suicide. The lyrics are pretty straight forward here. I am surprised that most people aren't seeing that.

Seen you naked in the bath
Cigarette stains on your hands
Wilted flowers in a vase (Flowers wilted because she has been dead for a while)
I ask how are you
Yeah how are you?

I see the lipstick on your glass
I think you're drunk, I start to laugh (At first he doesn't know she's dead. Thinks she is just passed out drunk)
I find your note, the letters ran (Found suicide note, and letters ran, like the blood ran from her wrists, as he discovers)
It said I love you (Her note says I love you to him)
Yeah I love you (He reflects "I love you" toward her)

Don't ask why, don't ask why
Don't ask why, don't ask why
Don't ask why, don't ask why, don't ask why (self explanatory)

Sixteen candles down the drain (self explanatory)

I watch you passed out for a while (Again, he doesn't know she's deasd yet at this point)
I touch your face, you start to smile (He touches her and manipulates her face in to what could appear to be a"smile", as he is checking to see if she is alive, and realizing she is not)
And on your note is my reply
I wish I loved you
I wish I loved you (self explanatory - he feels guilty for not being there for her more)

Don't ask why, don't ask why
Don't ask why, don't ask why
Don't ask why, don't ask why, don't ask why

Sixteen candles down the drain
(The drain)
Sixteen candles down the drain
(The drain)
Sixteen candles down the drain
(The drain)
Sixteen candles down the drain

Don't ask why, don't ask why, don't ask why, don't ask why
Don't ask why, don't ask why, don't ask why

Cutting Crew – (I Just) Died in Your Arms Lyrics 11 years ago
Funny how simple minded people think. Just because the phrase can also be used to describe an orgasm, doesn't mean that's what Van Eede was singing about. Listen to the lyrics in their entirety, and you clearly see that the man feels love for the woman, and she used him for sex. It's a classic role reversal.

The Nixons – Sister Lyrics 12 years ago
Some of you are taking the word "sister" way too literally. It is about an ex girlfriend who he remains close to........even though they no longer have a romantic relationship......thus evolving (begrudgingly on his part) to a platonic love that is still undying.......
