The Airborne Toxic Event – Sometime Around Midnight Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Actually, I considered it to be that he is reminiscing about the last time he saw his ex-wife, hence that white dress she's wearing and referring to her as the the thost. Sometime around midnight is when this memory begins so he is obviously a wreck and clings to the memory even after many years, I would assume. A powerful song that really builds in emotional expression and depth. Great band and beautiful song indeed! |
Electric Light Orchestra – Evil Woman Lyrics | 12 years ago |
While most likely about a relationship that has turned sour, it also does an excelent job describing how incredibly deceptive, cunnting, and down right evil women can be witch extends beyond the realms of a romantic relationship into friendships, the work place, and even online communities. |
Chevelle – The Red Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Would have to say how much I am pleased with Chevelle (despite the mental image of the car), not only for their musical talent and extraordinary vocals, but because the lyrics are always complex, which forces the listener to really think about the meaning. The Red, I believe, is about being the subject of animosity and how it filters through and changes you. The threat is real because it truly affects the subject, hence, "lay down;" he takes it and doesn't fight back. However, he can't contain [the pain] forever, and "when asked who made it show, the truth, he gives into most..." He gives in until he has no other choice but to become hateful and vengeful himself, which is evident by the anger in his voice toward the end. Unfortunately, this situation isn't only confined to adolescence. |

Tool – H. Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Not the most appropriate song for me to contribute this thought, but does anyone feel Disturbed is a somewhat hyped-up rip off of Tool? Don't get me wrong, I do like both, lyrically and musically, but it seems Disturbed uses the same pauses and "chopped-up" sound that Tool pretty much patented. Can't knock up the father though, lol. Both contribute "considerably" meaningful lyrics...but Tool especially tops the cake, I think. |
Tiger Army – Annabel Lee Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Absolutely beautiful poem (and I say poem because I haven't heard the song. yet.), but I have heard other songs titled, "Annabele Lee" and thought it referenced a mothers death. There are also traditional songs called "Angeline" that seem more along the lines of this song but it's been a while since I've read up on the origins of both songs, so I could be mistaken. |
Tiger Army – Under Saturn's Shadow Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Sooo cool! I love astrology and own terot cards myself, although I do not believe in them. At All. But what I particularly enjoy is that they force the reader to self reflect and offer advise that isn't judgemental such as "a test of patience and endurance r/t restrictions, boundaries and trials and are further linked to the cosmos. Nearly "spiritual" (I guess), in that it causes you to feel insanely "planetary" while surveying your life for where you effed up and uncovering ancient symbolism that, heck, even Divinci dabbled in...wicked interpretation, and fun. |
Chevelle – Shameful Metaphors Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Yay! However much I love this song, I have had difficulty understanding the meaning... so thanks to all of the above, and as I shall find out, all of the below as well. I think what really hit me was that metaphors have multiple meanings and often insinuate something that you can't quite put your finger on, but causes a chian reaction of thought or emotion that is stirring. So, why shameful? I really still do not know, but possibly because I also always think other words more fitting for words they choose which throws me off...and I like it! |

Radiohead – Paranoid Android Lyrics | 12 years ago |
K. Here's the deal... Radiohead is only popular because of their "pop" songs on the Radio, which is the head," (only advantage) lyrically and usually, musically wise as well. Most of their lyrics are a jumbled mess of nothing, yet they know how to splice just a few meaningful words into an ocean of void to successfully evade the audience (luv it). What makes Radiohead amazing is that there are 11 pages of incredible interpretations, and only because the lyrics infuse the musical composition with enough elusiveness to allow the listener to develop a meaning, an art in itself, for the music means nothing unless there are those who make it so, and that is true art; the Listener!!! Similar to a star that we observe in the sky and contemplate the complex nature of it's existance...although the star does not exist, it's seeing and feeling it's light that allows it to exist...so, here's to You; each and every one of You who sees extinguished light...You allow the star to shine, so You are the reason it does. Get it? xoxo |

Fuel – Falls on Me Lyrics | 12 years ago |
P.S. Forgot, it is the archetypal and vauge language that makes this simply beautiful because it becomes a wonderfully blissful veil of happiness with pink and purple coulds falling, down fogging up your vision (cannot find a cute symbol to portray a bitch face) but isn't that the beauty and comfort of music? Me thinks it is ;) (smug) Just kidding... - MissSuzieSunshine - |
Fuel – Falls on Me Lyrics | 12 years ago |
After taking a listen, I can hear how this could be interpreted to be a relationship with God because is sounds similar to many praise and worship songs. However, I do not believe this to directly reference God, and, furthermore it seems deep songs that represent the fundamental aspects of being human always are interchangeable with God. If you do not believe in God, that is a different scenerio that I won't delve into here. Anywho, "in the beginning" (heehee), he immediately is intimidated by the (girl, it, or God), "I've seen you hanging around in this darkness I am bound, and realizes it is the darkness of the abyss (the black hole) which draws her in because we all are aware of the massive gravitational force of a black hole, so...I like the comparison. This inferrs that she is a caring person and can see his pain; the wounds, and wants to mend/wash him "clean" to free him from the pain. [This is called co-dependancy, and isn't healthy]. The thing is, what he recognizes is that she is co-dependant and is affraid of this. The allure should not be to "fix" someone. He understands this and the actual message is that she does not clearly grasp the essence of who he is. It seems more that he is disconnected from the world, and the thought of true companionship scares the bejezus out of him. Then they hold hands or make love, what have you, and he is shocked by how insensely he feels never having felt it before, yet, never shows it. This is the first indication that he lives in his own solitary world and is quite comfortable there, so being aroused (no pun intended) to feelings of acceptance allow him to breathe for the first time. Clearly he may have never felt comfortable or could relate to his peers, but he never expresses that he is able to relate to the girl in the song either, which delineates from this song being about understanding and mutual acceptance, and more supports the idea of mysticism (God) where expectations are unrealistic and in need of "rescue." The very roots of a dysfunctional relationship. The comparison of "all your weight" is also universal or archetypal (isn't there a Beetles song, about you aren't too heavy, you are my brother?), but here he seems to feel as though her care and concern is a weight; a burden, that falls upon him because perhaps, he feels as though he feels she is ingenuine and isn't truly accepting him for who he is. At the same time, he also has hope by observing the faith that she puts into him which is representative of meeting expectations that he feels is too high, probably because they are, 1.) Unrealistic or 2.) Incongruent with who he is; if you truely see me and know me, will you still care? Or, do you just want to "save" me? "I might change your life, I might save the world, will you save me?" He is questioning if he is strong enough to pretend to be who he isn't just to fufill her dreams and understands that he possibly (might) could, but recognizes that he should remain true to himself as well. Utimately, (and cynically as well), the gist of the song is hope within the uncertainty of meeting expectations while living in a lonesome world, yet, happily so. So...yeah. |
Deftones – Change (In the House of Flies) Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Definitely a twisted and sinister song clearly illustrating the inner-workings of man who actively seeks to destroy the object of his desire to both be redeemed and feel powerful. I watched you change Into a fly * As a fly on the wall, he watches and observes the "change." Here, there is a strong indication that he is perhaps watching a young girl change into adolecence, but that is an entirely different interpretaion that I may attempt later and isn't exactly the point. The most significant revelation to You, the audience, is that HIS mentality is changing, yet he blames it on us, the audience. Watching a human being, a woman, change into a fly, reveals that he views her as a creature...no...not even a creature...a fly...he has successfully dehumanized the listener which is the foreshaddow of what is to unfold. I looked away You were on fire * Notice the shif of blame, again. Fire is universally associated with hell; consumation; desolation; and he attributes that to the woman (or the listener) which is the first inclination of guilt...he looked away. I watched a change in you It's like you never had wings * "As if you never had wings," I believe, indicates that he once idolized or adored the woman, which both surmount to objectification and delivers nicely the distortion of his perceptions; idealized to dehumanized. And you feel so alive I've watched you change * Here he withdraws from his connection to the audience; where You was first, the listener, he now is admitting the spark within himself, the seed of hate for the woman and it makes him feel alive. [I believe the different usages of "you" to be correct because he cannot feel her alive, it's within himself and as he watches her change, he is witnessing himself change] I took you home Set you on the glass * "I took you home," suggests ownership. Think of it this way; when you replace you with her, what does that suggest? "I took her home," creates the idea that he is taking her to her home, but you is synonymous with it; "I took you home," "I took it home." Anyhow, "set you on the glas," as if on display...it...an object. * Side note: I feel as though the electronic distortion of his voice also parallels the distortion of his thinking, adding to the morbid complexity of the song. I pulled off your wings Then I laughed * This is the major transition and is the most riveting [chills], where he first allows us to glimpse how he successfully abolishes his own inner-tormoil...by pulling off her wings. While in the begining he watched the change within himself, he conquers this emotion by eradicating the defining symbol of demoralization; the wings. Since wings are usually associated with angels or with freedom, this illustrates that now she is completely defiled and imprisioned...he has gained control and feels guilty about it, internally hates himself for it, and then has to laugh [tranferrence of his own emotions onto his object to relieve any guilt, for he must see himself as human in order to maintian control. I watched a change in you It's like you never had words * Now, he completely dominates and feels as if a king; as emporer. By subtracting value from the woman, he is adding value to himself, where none was before. Not even her words matter. She is mute; deleted. Now you feel so alive I watched you change * "You feel so alive," is now identified as being the woman. He wants to believe that the pain and suffering he inflicted upon her makes her feel alive, as if he is responsible for "breathing life" into his object. * The instramentals through the entire song and especially here really do suggest a sultry/sexual tempo and is significant, but I won't delve into that here. I look at the cross And I look away * His guilt finally catches up with him and is awful. He cannot accept it nor face it, so... Give you the gun Blow me away * He allows her to hurt him, he begs of it so that the cycle may repeat, for in order to maintain control, he MUST hate. Blah, there it is, although there are so many differnt subtle themes and metaphors that I didn't cover but can see. Anyhow, while I usually like songs that are dark, this one totally freaks me out, and that's probably the point. |

Clearly NOT what this innocent song is about, and YES; the world WOULD be a better place without him (i.e. sexual predators) in it!!! Kinda makes one wish to bring back "death by stoning" because I can assure you, I would happily spend all the rest of my days in prison for eleminating anyone who would violate/abuse/etc my own daughter...I'm sure there are many parents who would agree! |

I would think "filthy is only skin deep" means he doesn't truly love her...he is just as superficial as she because the expression is synonomous with "beauty is only skin deep." They are exactly the same...superficial and lacking depth. |
Rise Against – Savior Lyrics | 12 years ago |
For some reason when he says "as the telling signs of age rain down," I always thought he said, as the telling signs of daydreams now a single tear is dropping, which I think could match the overall tone of the song if you see it more about living in lala land. But most likely it's about him leaving his girl while he's on the road, "one thousand miles away," and how they are hurting eachother more by holding on when "[they] never had a choice." I take it much time has passed because he can hardley remember what she looks like. When she says "I don't hate you," I think implies that she probably blames him for keeping her holding on, and he says "but I'm not the answer for the questions that you still have..." She probably can't understand why she still has feelings for him after so much time and hates herself and him for it, but he's not going to answer any questions, thus keeping her holding on. Anyhow, it's a mess and they just don't know how to get out. Or, the passage of time, distance, and walls could just be metaphorical. idk. cool song. |

Oh, lol I forgot...the time that was wasted probably means the time they spent apart, so maybe it means they eventually end up together? I don't know but the song is great! |
Sara Bareilles – One Sweet Love Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I think the part "a heart I swear I'd recognize is made out of my own devices" simply means that she can recognize traits within herself in another. Probably more like compatability, I would think. I agree though, she lost a love or potential love. Maybe someone that she felt a strong connection with but was not able to continue with him. I also think "I don't look, don't touch, don't do anything" refers more to her not having any other love because she still hopes for him. IMHO though. |

I'm so disapointed...grooveshark no longer has this beautiful song availiable :( What I also love about this song is that some words can be heard differently. Atmosphere = at most fear, and just to be near you darling sounds like just to be near you dark. Anywho, lovely interpretation! |
