The Gaslight Anthem – The Blues, Mary Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I disagree with "cieran" comment (sorry) but quiet obviously this isn't a carry on from thunder road as Howl released on Handwitten is obviously a carry on from Thunder road I feel this song is a song trying to get over a girl in ways looking for your self telling your self "it's just the blues" and maria/mary is every girl and no girl according to Bruce Springsteen and Brian Fallon and many other artists like them, it's the trying to find your feet and then finding some one else to make you happy, this song is one telling you everything will be fine and the old relationship of the fights and shit times that something better will come I absolutely love the chorus "I'm somewhere over the rainbow for you" is almost the perfect line and right at the end with the first half verse of Amazing Grace playing just pulls all of it together |
The Gaslight Anthem – Halloween Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Like a lot of Gaslight songs, it is one that we can relate to. this song to me is about going to a party with some one you love or a friend while your thinking about some one you love even though you know no one there you are trying to crack a smile, while they are talking to every one you are standing awkwardly sipping your drink, feeling like a corpse no one recognizing you standing there, and the reference to ghosts just how they pass through you with out knowing you are there almost, and then towards the end of the song is almost like you realize that they may be just as uncomfortable as you there I can only say this cause i went to a party with a friend where this song pretty much describes the night, to nervous to talk to people so just drinking to take off the edge, while the whole time you got some one you love on your mind either the person who dragged you there or some one who isn't and i think "klemkb" description of this song is pretty much spot on |

The Gaslight Anthem – National Anthem Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I heard this song and at first didn't like it, but then after getting into a argument with my girlfriend giving it another listen i realised how deep it is, the song is about a girl who he did love, and possibly still loves, still remembering her and saying he will put the feelings behing him no matter how much it kills him it's a beautiful song when you see it from brians point of view |

The Gaslight Anthem – I Coulda Been a Contender Lyrics | 12 years ago |
The line "Soldier hold fast now" a traditional sailor tattoo is to have "Hold Fast" on your knuckles or wrists, they belived it would help them hold/grip the rope tighter, i agree with "cieran" saying it is not unlike a war (a storm at sea) and the sailors are the soldiers fighting to get to their "only dream" a greek myth also to do with a sea, but i do belive this song is written about a romance that has gone wrong but hides it in the whole thing behind the sea. Does any one else also think that the name of the album and album cover are related to this song? sink or swim is to do with the sea and so is the album cover but this could just be me making no real conections bettween anything |
The Gaslight Anthem – Miles Davis and the Cool Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I do love this song my fav song from this album!!! i have to kind of agree with Desaparecida that i belive it is of him liking this girl all trough out high school and then one night he takes a chance gooes to her house late at night and tries to be a old romantic possibly in a song from the old jazz musicial Miles Davis (who i guess the title of this song is about) but back to my point, i belive it is about a girl that you like and tries to be a old romantic by going to her house then kissing the stone for luck and throwing it up at her window to get her attention and then time passes and the part about the red dress and diamon soled shoes could be a part about after graduation like prom or something (i am english so i don't know what happens) and he asks to her prom or something and she wears this stunning red dress and he falls inlove with her more, then time passes and they get married or live together about coming home and not waiting to long then "down from our youth to the ground" could be that saying that they have gone from their youth to death together i don't know if that is true or not but i feel like it could be like that to me |
Jeff Buckley – Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen cover) Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Can some one please explain the line "I've seen your on the marble arch, but love is not a victory march" I find it AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL, but i don't understand what he means by it... |
Arctic Monkeys – Suck It and See Lyrics | 12 years ago |
The line "You're rarer than a can of dandelion and burdock, And other girls are just postmix lemonade" seems like he is saying how this girl who he loves is a one of a kind and he can not find any one else like her to all you asking about dandelion and burdock drinks it isn't common any more but when it was common and even now to find it, it usualy comes in bottels so to find a can of it is very hard but then to say the other girls are postmix lemonade can mean either bottel or can and this is obviously very common to find it is an amazing song with amazing lyrics |
