Nine Inch Nails – The Good Soldier Lyrics | 17 years ago |
In terms of the Year Zero storyline, I'm pretty sure this song is about the "Be The Hammer" guy, a former soldier in the 105th Airborne Crusaders who ends up joining the resistance. The song is from his point of view while he's still in the 105th: He's trying very hard to be a good soldier, but just can't quite bring himself to believe in what he's fighting for. |
Aqua – Barbie Girl Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song symbolizes privileged but intrinsically flawed lifestyle of the bourgeose class, built on lies, broken promises, and the systematic oppression of the proletariot. This is best illustrated by the line, "Life in plastic is fantastic," which indicated that the "good life" enjoyed by the privileged few is a flimsy, manufactured, "plastic" facade built upon the bruised backs of the working class. "You can brush my hair, undress me everywhere" is indicative of the oppressors' perception that the lower classes exist only to serve them -- in this case, by brushing their hair and undressing them -- and the tone of the song suggests, disturbingly, that these de facto slaves should be grateful for the opportunity to perform such servile tasks. |
Garth Brooks – Rodeo Lyrics | 19 years ago |
My martial arts instructer plays this song during our Friday night muay thai drill rounds. I'm not a big country fan, but I gotta admit it's a great song to kick to. |
They Might Be Giants – Particle Man Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Anyone ever read the comic book Watchmen? This song parallels the story so closely that it really makes me wonder. Those of you who have read it, think about it: Particle Man = The Comedian Triangle Man = Ozymandius Universe Man = Dr. Manhatten Person Man = Rorshach The Comedian gets his ass kicked by Ozy at the beginning, Rorshach gets his ass kicked be Ozy at the end. Ozy has the whole Egyptian theme going on, what with a lot of pyramids and triangles and stuff. And Dr. Manhatten repaired watches as a hobby before he became a superhero. It's probably a coincidence, but the parallels are interesting. |
A Perfect Circle – Orestes Lyrics | 21 years ago |
I see this song as being about inner conflict. When he says either of the words "me" or "you," he's actually talking about the same person: Himself. The "you" is an aspect of his personality that was once necessary but is now holding him back, keeping him from growing and developing as a human being. "Give me one more medicated peaceful moment" hints at drug addiction, and "I don't want to feel this overwhelming hostility" may refer to drug withdrawl. Perhaps his addiction is the aspect of himself that he wants to be rid of. |
Lagwagon – Smile Lyrics | 21 years ago |
I think this song kind of goes hand-in-hand with Making Friends. Both are about being involved in a unsatisfying social scene populated by phony, transparent people. "Smile" is about being trapped in it, and "Making Friends" is about breaking free of it. Having lived both, I can relate. |
Tapping The Vein – Falling In Lyrics | 22 years ago |
Haven't we all felt this way about someone at some point in our lives? Being absolutely, irresistably attracted to someone we know damn well is bad for us and will hurt us. And of course, it ends exactly the way you knew it would end, but just because you saw the load of bricks coming doesn't make it hurt any less when it hits you. It's definately happened to me. It was easy to write her off as someone I'm better off without anyway. It's a lot harder to forgive myself for being stupid enough to sleep with her. |

Funker Vogt – Black Market Dealers Lyrics | 22 years ago |
There's not much to be deciphered here. It's about the allied invasion of Germany at the end of WWII, something the people were utterly terrified of, but found they were greatly relieved and thankful when it happened. |
Tapping The Vein – Crushing Lyrics | 22 years ago |
The lines that stand out in this song for me are "I am too tired to give up, and I am too weak to fail." It almost seems contradictory, but it makes perfect sense: If you give up or fail now, you may not have the strength to try again, so failure is not an option. The sad part is, judging by the rest of the song, failure is exactly what's happening. |
Apoptygma Berzerk – Electronic Warfare Lyrics | 22 years ago |
This is easy. It's about someone who's really into a video game. Makes me think of multiplayer Quake. And it's a great song to play Quake to. |
