Alan Parsons – One Day to Fly Lyrics 2 years ago
A fabulous song by Alan Parsons on his 1996 album 'On Air'. Composed by Stuart Elliott, the drummer of the band, and Scott English, it's themed on the adversities live by Leonardo Da Vinci to prove the validity of his projects and drawings in order to make manhood being able to fly on engines a possibility, and in general the instinctive and recurring dream of man to fly.

Obviously rs180216 is right. The song is an opener to a concept album on time travel, and describes the imaginary fact of being taken ahead of time by some mysterious being which is a liar and a very proud being ("with your head held high and your scarlet lies") which may be referred to some kind of artificial intelligence or even postmodern society as an entity.

The song and the album verse so much about transhumanism and its bitter and sour influence in our lives that one wonders if mr. Lynne wasn't actually taken forward to the future (2019?) to see how everything was to become so automatised and cold, so lifeless and materialistic. The energetic pulse of the very much ahead of its time sound of drum machine and the colourful sweeping synths create a sound picture which has hardly been taken over by any other pop song ever.

Shame they were so much ahead of the time I think the great public wasn't prepared for this. It would have been hit every number one in 1986, year in which they instead created the decadent, Caribbean 'Miami Vice' sounding 'Balance of Power' which holds a lot of quality in a few numbers but highlights tiredness and lack of inspiration in way too many parts. Shame but success also is an inspiring force and sadly ELO were a progressively deflated baloon in the 80's, just the opposite as what happened to them in the 70's. Nothing lasts forever but their music has aged well and they keep on selling big stadiums out in 2019.

So good!!

Julian Lennon – Say You're Wrong Lyrics 5 years ago
The song has a nice groove, probably amongst the best 3 or 4 in the 'Valotte' album. The joyful and optimistic feel of the music contrasts with the groomy and frustrated character of the lyrics, which otherwise are extremely simplistic and now very thought provoking. It is curious tho' the title of the song never gets quoted in the lyrics.

By the way I just watched the video for the first time today (and I've submitted it to songmeanings.com as well as the lyrics) but it is so simple and lakcing of any imagination or creativity it deserves no further comment at all.

Probably Julian Lennon deserved more success that he did but I find his debut album being too relying on the production and lacking real emotional strength in the songs, many times conveying apathy more than any other feeling.

It is otherwise admirable the musical maturity and lyrical self assurance for a debut album of a 24 year old boy. His musical backroung sure helped but I feel the man had a talent of his own. 'Valotte' is a piece of art on its own. I never heard sucha an elegant and mature pop song.

10cc – I'm Not In Love Lyrics 6 years ago
Well, apparently Eric Stewart wrote this song eight years after getting married, and her wife had told him he never said he loved her anymore, so as he didn't want to make a cliché of a song he just stated it exactly saying the opposite, which is a psicological game with a bit of irony because he's showing a lot of clues of how much he loves her.

A real stunning song for the sordid atmosphere it gets and the bittersweet quality of both the music and the lyrics. I don't know anything form 10 CC apart from this song and 'Dreadlock Holiday' which is much more disposable than this gem in my opinion. I'd like to find out there's a lot more like this in their work.

@[Orabidoo:17299] That's it!!! She finds his place, watches his beautiful face, they talk, he speaks about his sincere purpose of finding a stable life somewhere far away, he really means it... but she knows he won't be able to leave the boothe and the crazy life behind him. So she walks home knowing that she needs to be realistic and build her life on knowing her limitations, not dreaming away & pretending they're not there.

Amazing lyrics, very easy to be remembered because they're so musical and if you notice everything is written in pairs. Amazing song too.

Dire Straits – Ride Across The River Lyrics 8 years ago
I much prefer the ethnic, atmospheric sound and melody in this song from the lyrics. I find the lyrics too simple, too morally "correct" for the 80's time when the Cold War was at its peak, and I find the words rather simple and little suggesting. Pink Floyd wrote a song called 'Dogs of War' just a couple of years later tah have the same problem. War is a terrible thing, but there's always a reason in one or the other side to fight: defending their own ones. Having said that, I think there are song related to war with better lyrics, and the one that comes to my mind right now is 'Question' by The Moody Blues, from 1969, about the Vietnam War. A splendid song musicwise as well.

I think in spite of that the melody and intrumentation of this song is so good it even would have worked well as an instrumental.

Boney M – Rivers Of Babylon Lyrics 8 years ago
Psalm 137 New King James Version (NKJV)
Longing for Zion in a Foreign Land

137 By the rivers of Babylon,
There we sat down, yea, we wept
When we remembered Zion.
2
We hung our harps
Upon the willows in the midst of it.
3
For there those who carried us away captive asked of us a song,
And those who plundered us requested mirth,
Saying, “Sing us one of the songs of Zion!”

4
How shall we sing the Lord’s song
In a foreign land?
5
If I forget you, O Jerusalem,
Let my right hand forget its skill!
6
If I do not remember you,
Let my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth—
If I do not exalt Jerusalem
Above my chief joy.

7
Remember, O Lord, against the sons of Edom
The day of Jerusalem,
Who said, “Raze it, raze it,
To its very foundation!”

8
O daughter of Babylon, who are to be destroyed,
Happy the one who repays you as you have served us!
9
Happy the one who takes and dashes
Your little ones against the rock!

Sting – Brand New Day Lyrics 9 years ago
It's a clear Satanic/Reptilian message.

'Jesus didn't work out for you as I made religions just to downplay and twist His person and Who He really is, but listen, we can turn the clock to zero and start again, there's a new order being prepared and I'll be your God. No mystery, it's in the Bible and I don't think it's a new one for anybody it's all in a very advanced phase.

The comparisons at the end are ALL phallic images where Satan is the masculine member and the people -his people- are the female member. It is a spiritual bondage based on people receiving Sata's doctrine and then being impegnated by him.

Nothing of it is distant from the book of Revelation, as it almost entirely narrates the government of the Beast who will sit in the throne of God and claim to be Him as millions will go after him and will end up in Hell.

Search God while He can still be found.

I've read some interesting opinions on this song. And whether Alan Parsons is quite spiritual or not there is no wonder,we are all spiritual beings, but Faith is only given to some as a gift, and as the Bible says, the rest can't agree among themselves.

25 And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after that Paul had spoken one word, Well spake the Holy Ghost by Esaias the prophet unto our fathers,

26 Saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive:

27 For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

Eagles – Hotel California Lyrics 9 years ago
Occult song, occult band, and it's all about Hell. It is a kind of hypnotic song and no doubt it has demonic influence, because the lyrics are so plain and so clear there can be no doubt about it.

Actually, the demonic influence gave it the hypnotic influence that brought it the huge success it had, but certainly it is a very wicked song because it tries to conceal and downplay the actual message it's conveying. No doubt it is occult with the worst intentions ever, which is 'no matter what you do, you will finish up in Hell' which is totally a lie, because accordin to the Bible, in

I'm surprised nobody saw a subliminal message about God/Satan, or her telling God he'll embrace Satanism as the devil made her famous and rich. It's quite obvious really. So sad messages like this keep on beating the collective subconcious and impelling everybody to be a rebel and rebelling against the things of God and His law. No wonder these artists get so successfull in conveying messages from the leaders to a confused and "obedient" society.

Genesis – Jesus He Knows Me Lyrics 9 years ago
I am a Christian and I've been to what I call "disfunctional churches" that take advantage of the people's faith and take almost all of their money, energy, and time.

Jesus is Real and his Word is so true and deep that all of them who use His name for personal purposes will have their punishment as a hinder for the truth of the Gospel to be spread and reach people.

But who can deny we've all sinned and everyone of us will have to give account to a mighty God after this life for our deeds, good and bad. And no one of us will pass this test, if it's not by having beien cleansed by the Blood of Jesus and having faith in Him.

He is the only one that was born without sin. He was born, lived, died and rose from the dead without sin. He is the only salvation possible for our lives.

'Invisible Touch' is a great album. Specially the main title and 'Throwing it all Away' are fantastic pop songs.

May God bless everybody.

Simon and Garfunkel – Keep The Customer Satisfied Lyrics 10 years ago
I'd rather go for the street musician interpretation. I am one and I can tell there can be no closer description of what a street musician is. And furthermore, I don't think, as another commentor said, that a poetic and inspired writer like Simon would pay so much attention to drug dealing as most of the people think.

About the libelling and slandering I can tell how that is right because being a street musician you get treated like a gangster, specially in my country, Spain, where corrupt politicians appear to people as squeaky clean while decent and honest people trying to make ends meet with modest mains are often seen by society as suspicious people.

The Moody Blues – Melancholy Man Lyrics 11 years ago
Obviously there is an Apocalyptical overtone to the song. I would even add it's prophetic. Pinder speaks in future tense with a self security he almost sounds like a journalist of the future, merging facts with his own feelings about them. It is a deep, emptional and dramatic song but I've always felt as well it's way toooooo much sad for me. There is no glimpse of hope apparently on it. That's why I've always preferred 'Have You Heard? I & II' or 'My Song' as two similar and related songs.

The way the whole Moody Blues sing along with Mike show how much of one consistent musical and spiritual body the Moodies got to become. Although I find the song a bit too gloom and groom, it is seriously one of the thickest and most intense songs in the whole golden discography of the Moodies.

The Moody Blues – It's Up To You Lyrics 11 years ago
Amazing song with tons of quality, specially in Justin's own guitars and voice. The song has an unusual fresh and country feel, which suits perfectly the deepness and drama of other songs in the album. It's really a perfect combination of simpleness, quality and accuracy that makes the song stand out.

And the middle section, sincere and honest as always in Justin's songs: "If they knew that we ha got nothing to lose / No reason to hide from what's true". It combinates with 'Dawning is the Day' when he sings "Baby there's no price upon your head / Sing it, shout it".

Jesus is the only truth and that makes us able to stand and witness it; whoever disagrees is fair enough, but we don't have to have fear because the only truth pushes away the rest of them "And the words that pass us by, I am not listening / To all of its lies".

Yeah, I agree with Ludeyn and Matchlyn. It seems having a wife is a start of a new life, with other challenges. I tended to think it was a negative point of view about marriage, but I don't think so now. Rather, I think it's the philosophical statement that you never really find the ultimate goal in your life even when you take the right decisions.

The Alan Parsons Project – Don't Answer Me Lyrics 12 years ago
Eric Woolfson wanted that "wall of sound" George Martin had created in the sixties, then started insisting about it. Then, Alan Parsons got tired of it and so the he asked Eric Woolfson: "You mean this??" Then, he put on this awesome reverb over the whole track, giving this splendid fresh and broad effect we all know in the song. In the 'Ammonia Avenue' remastered version you can have an idea how was the song like before it, listening to a early demo track of the song that's there. You can't compare it to the real one. It's just tiny compared to it.

Yeah, but I think it comes back again here. In 'Turn of a Friendly Card' there is an instrumental track based in a Poe's tale, 'The Gold Bug', although they had covered that in 'Tales'. In 'Eye in the Sky' 'Step by Step' speaks about gambling and seeking for fortune, although that time had been covered in 'Turn'. Just guessing... I think although 'Stereotomy' hasn't got an 'official' or specific concept, all the songs speak about alienation in modern life.
