@[russycarps:7039] I agree with the first repy, it's not to be taken literally...it would be difficult to give someone Hanging Gardens of Babalon or Miles Davis....it's a way of saying, "I'll give you the world"...Is this the greatest lovew

I think it's more a backhanded compliment....and always thought he said "you're posh and you think that you're sexy"

The Hold Steady – Your Little Hoodrat Friend Lyrics 10 years ago
I always assumed the narrator was talking to Holly, and he's screwed one of her friends....I see that as part of Holly's awakening

The Hold Steady – Your Little Hoodrat Friend Lyrics 10 years ago
All very true, except, I don't think Finn is ever the narrator. He has said that he doesn't write songs about himself or his own life....Anywho, I suspected that Holly was this Hoodrat, cas the last song on the album says, "Holly was a hood rat and I bet you didn't know that"....However, who is the narrator talking to then? I once assumed it was Holly he was talking to about one of her friends, but now I'm not so sure....

Bob Dylan – Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum Lyrics 11 years ago
After more consideration, I would have to say that it was actually Bush and Gore he was referring to. It's easy, after the abomination that was the Bush presidency to think it was Bush and Chenney, but looking at when the song was probably written (1999), I would say it was the 2 candidates he was referring to.

Bob Dylan – Goin' to Acapulco Lyrics 12 years ago
Clearly a brothel song, with lyrics alternating perspective between the John and the Hoar....but a very positive take on the nature of life and how we have to all hoar ourselves out to live...For me, it is one of the 2 or 3 greatest songs of all time....I think I put it at #3 on a list a few years ago after "the magnificent seven" by the Clash and "Who Knows Where the time Goes" by the Fairport Convention...

You know, you should really have to pass a dip-shit test before you post on these things....this song is plain and simple about eating pussy....read the first verse and tell me it's not...

Pavement – Zurich Is Stained Lyrics 12 years ago
This makes sense to me....Of course great lyrics are open to interpretation and multiply meanings, so I think almost any interpretation could be correct, but i like the idea of Zurich symbolizing neutrality...

Steely Dan – Kid Charlemagne Lyrics 12 years ago
Ok, this song is 100% about Owsley Stanley. He made the best LSD and was the Dead's soundman for several years in the late 60's and in the 70's. Some of these posts are way off however. The "Day Glow Freaks who used to paint the face have joined the human race" are the former hippies who have gotten jobs and stopped tripping (look at the old footage of San Fran in '68...they've all got flowers painted on their faces). "You're obsolete, look at all the white men on the street" 'White Men' are the coke dealers. No one was dropping anymore by the mid 70's, but rather doing blow. Hence, Owsley was obsolete. And the running out of gas thing is apparently a true story....He got caught 'cas his car ran out of gas. Now the idea of Owsley creating something new ie "crossing a diamond with a pearl" I don't really see. I think it just refers to the good LSD he was making. The Acid derivative he created was a big failure and was responsible for nothing but bad trips, so I don't see that experiment being eulogized in song.
Peace,
Munch Johnson
