I would be greatly surprised if this song was not about suicide. Video aside (how many times have you seen a video that did not really fit the song, but was a good idea). The band's publicist is not going to come out and say the song is about suicide and a bluegrass band is not going to do a video about suicide. My daughter downloaded this song on my Android driving back from East Texas from my father's funeral. She committed suicide the next day. Her note read "I know I am being selfish, tell my my mom and Dad I love them, tell Jess I love her." We initially searched for her for 4 hours before we found her in the alley behind my house, she taken my grandmothers car and my gun. By the way, don't count on a cellphone company to help you find someone, even if it is a matter of life and death and the person is a minor using a phone on your account and they are sendng more than 40 txts an hour. They'll collect the money on the text, but they damn sure won't help track a GPS equipped phone. As to the lyrics, "as green as the ring on my little cold finger" is obviously a reference to dieing a virgin, "green" meaning inexperienced."Wear your best boys and I'll wear my pearls" refers to her funeral. "A penny for my thoughts, oh no, I'll sell them for a dollar" refers to all people wondering why someone commits suicide. I'm a therapist, I had no idea she was unhappy at all and now I have to spend the rest of my life wondering why my baby girl is gone. If you think about it, after someone is gone, everything about them is precious, my ex-wife and I have been diligent about preserving all of her things, its going to be a VERY long life without her. But although all of her belongings are precious, nothing is more precious than her thoughts, because we are left with the eternal "Why?" and the only person that can tell us is gone. I am actually in a lawsuit with the cellphone company, who will not provide her text message data to me, even though they have a subpoena for it and have admitted in a the response that it is 133 pages long. |

| Its pretty staright forward to me. Glycerine is used in food photography to preserve and enhance the look of food, its a preservative. Now you don't want to eat the stuff after you use it, so when I shot something I really wanted to eat, I misted it with water. So he is saying he wants the relationship to stay the same forever, to always be good. "Don't let the days go by". In the lyrics he alludes to trouble in the relationship, but every relationship has its faults and he admits he could have been better at holding up his bargain. It sounds like a guy on the cusp of losing the best relationship he has had. | |
