David Bowie – Space Oddity Lyrics 10 years ago
I believe this songs talks about an astronaut who gets overwhelmed by the immensity and the beauty of the universe and realize how small the earth, his inhabitants and their problems are.

When he's told that he's now a celebrity it seems like he doesn't really care, he's already distracted and fascinated by the way the stars look. Then he begins to realize how small he and his "tin can" are, and by watching at the planet earth he notices that humanity's role is also insignificant in the universe, that's why he says that there's nothing to do.

He goes on by saying that travelling thousends of miles is still nothing compared to the immensity of space, so he decides to "dive" in it, letting his spaceship choose the way. He knows this will make him lose forever every contact with the earth, and that's why his last words are for his wife. Maybe, since "the circuits are dead", he might even have attemped suicide, by purposely interrupting every communication in order to enjoy his solitude before dying.

The Beatles – A Day in the Life Lyrics 11 years ago
I believe the structure of the song is crucial to understand what it means;

the first part is about laying in bed, waiting to fall asleep, thinking of the day that is about to finish. he thinks of the irony in life, he can't help but laughing at someone dying in such an absurd way, after "having made the grade" in the life. the orchestral section is the moment when he falls alseep, with so much meaningless thinking going on (beautiful how the last thing he thinks is his loved one, and how he would like her to be there with him).
Then he suddenly wakes up and starts his day routine; he has to hurry, no time for thinking; but then he smokes, and while people are talking about something he probably doesn't really care about, once again he goes away with his mind just like when he was about to sleep ("i went into a dream"), and again the orchestral section is the division between the everyday world and the world he has in his mind. Yet again, the last thought that comes to his mind is her... He'd love to turn her on...

Sorry about my poor english, i did my best

Woods – Born to Lose Lyrics 12 years ago
Must be the saddest song I've ever heard... Yes we still try don't we all.

Thanks for posting the lyrics, being a not a native english speaker I couldn't understand a single sentence...

By the way, it's "lose", not "loose"

Jay Reatard – I'm Watching You Lyrics 13 years ago
These lyrics are wrong... He says:

You see, to me, I never mean that much
To me, you see, I never were that cool
To me, you see, I always played the fool for you

I guess he's acting like he doesn't care for her, though he really does

Sonic Youth – Teenage Riot Lyrics 13 years ago
Kim singing We will fall in the intro could be a quote to Iggy Pop's album... Or maybe not.

Anyway this song is about the need for a rebellion, for a change, for something to fight for.

Loved your interpretation. It also seems very logic.

Arcade Fire – Neighborhood #2 (Laika) Lyrics 13 years ago
I guess the correct line is "When daddy comes home HE always starts a fight"

To me, the song is about some kids in a family who watch the older brother going away from the neighborhood forever. They love him and respect him, they don't actually understand what he does, but they trust him. They know there has to be a reason for the great adventure he decided to begin, they know he's going away for his own good and for the neighborhood.
In fact, they want him to go even if this means tearing apart pictures and letters of the family; they don't blame him for it.
They think their mom should have named him Laika (like the Russian dog) because he's seen like a great explorer of the unknown: leaving home requires bravery, he could even not survive, like the dog.

Arcade Fire – Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels) Lyrics 13 years ago
This is my favourite song ever.
And this is my personal interpretation:

And if the snow buries my
My neighborhood
And if my parents are crying
Then I'll dig a tunnel
From my window to yours
Yeah, a tunnel from my window to yours

------------------------------------------
He's still a young boy, and the snow is the coldness of feeling which comes with adult age; in fact, snow makes everything colorless and silent, and he'll say that he asks her loved one to spread what remains of the colors over his heart, and he hears her singing a beautiful hymn. She is the only way for him to keep on living a life worth living. So he'll dig a tunnel in the snow to connect his bedroom with hers. This is obviously hardly realizable, and to me this means a sort of pessimism.
He sees his parents crying: they're probably not in love anymore, they have no dreams (this theme is much present in many Funeral songs, like Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)). They remind him what his life will probably be.
----------------------------------------------

You climb out the chimney
And meet me in the middle
The middle of the town
And since there's no one else around
We let our hair grow long
And forget all we used to know
Then our skin gets thicker
From living out in the snow

--------------------------------------
He plans a complete isolation from society because he's afraid of it: he doesn't wanna work in a building downtown (Antichrist Television Blues), he doesn't want a common life. He finally can have long hair because nobody is there to judge him. A thicker skin means more protection from the snow, both pratically and metaphorically. He gotta keep warm (Vampire/Forest Fire).
--------------------------------------

You change all the lead
Sleeping in my head
As the day grows dim
I hear you sing a golden hymn

---------------------------------
She turns his heavy thoughts in precious ones
---------------------------------

Then we tried to name our babies
But we forgot all the names that
The names we used to know
But sometimes, we remember our bedrooms
And our parent's bedrooms
And the bedrooms of our friends
Then we think of our parents
Well, what ever happened to them

----------------------------------
He knows that far away, in his nest in the snow, he'll miss their parents and friends, and he's sad about the suffering he gived them going away (Win moved from Texas to Montreal and probably his parents were very sad about it; in My Heart Is An Apple he says that he won't come home not even after Texas called him back)
----------------------------------

You change all the lead
Sleeping in my head to gold
As the day grows dim
I hear you sing a golden hymn
The song I've been trying to sing

Purify the colors, purify my mind
Purify the colors, purify my mind
And spread the ashes of the colors
Over this heart of mine!

-----------------------------------

I'm not native english, so sorry for my poor explanation.

Modest Mouse – Float On Lyrics 13 years ago
I think this song is about that sense of peace and wealth you feel when you've just lost everything, and you realize that life's just a joke. Something similar to Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life by Monthy Python
