The type the people in the castle would warn her about. Maybe there were ghosts in that castle but they did protect her. I was once cornered by a bunch of guys who decided to play baseball with my head, knowing I had a concussion, who told me not to even think about getting help from the man I wanted because they had already spoke to him and he said he didn't care about me anymore, they could have me, and do what they wanted with me. That was more upsetting than the ball. He walked in on the situation and I thought I saw him walk away but to be fair I was distracted and only allowed a few brief glimpses because I had to maintain eye contact with the guy in front of me or have the ball grazing my temples or worse if I looked away. It was an ugly situation and when it was over I went a little hysterical on the man I was crazy about. I don't remember everything I said. I know I was upset. Back to the song.. something happened that hurt her making her think he doesn't care so she's making him "black and blue" so to speak making him prove he cares about her. This song makes me cry because I would want to hear someone say "I would catch a grenade for you'. |

| I like how you analyzed it also. Very close to what it means to me. Except the heart being gone I see as she became more guarded or protected unlike trusting days with unlocked doors. He is someone she trusted and felt very connected to for whatever reason. The lights might be when she sees him, hears him, or thinks of him it stops her in her tracks (turn to stone). Even if she pretends not to notice it has all her attention. She wonders when the lights stop if she will remember and be who she used to be and move on or go back to what she is today. But she's mesmerized. As long as the lights are there she cannot pull away or decide what to do once the lights are gone. My interpretation.. "I'm afraid, you sent me the signal you could be serious, I think I have the same feelings, but I've been hurt before and don't want to read you wrong. There was a time I would have walked away [didn't want to get serious or just walk away from uncertain situations] but think you could save my life [I have strong feelings for you]. There are two basic kinds of fights. Mean fights and wimpy fights. A mean fight is when you really want to cut someone down. A wimpy fight is when you feel pushed into saying something but you don't have the stomach for it. She wants him to feel bad for what she feels is picking on her. Notice most of what she says is just that. Agreed the rest of the insults are childish but remind me of a kid on the playground just trying to counter back with something, anything, to get back. "You're mean! And um.. [quick think of something].. and someday I will be somebody... and then you will be sorry.. and.. you're mean!" Her heart isn't in it or she's not a mean fighter period. She probably felt worse when she said the additional stuff. Its nice to have a song that captures that feeling when someone hurts your feelings and you can't bring yourself to really hurt them back. I think Oneofthebillions hits it on the head. "I believe the song plays to the fatalistic nature of humans. It could work into spirituality but I think it is a general criticism of the consequences of fearing an uncertain future. "I'll pay any cost, save me from being confused." Doesn't that seen a little strong? But it is an idea often echoed by those of feel our of control. "show me what i'm looking for"... isn't that something you should figure out; it seems somewhat of a joke to think that someone else could tell you what you're looking for, even at "any cost." The song is the voice in singers head pleading to a higher power or another person to show him what he's looking for. He may or may not know himself what "sign" that is. He wants to know and understand before he steps into anything. Lifes sad little poker game where people go around with their poker faces on hoping for a glimpse of others cards so they can make their next decision before risking anything and being hurt. The song indicates he's close to the breaking point of being open. But the song is still in his head. I picture two people sitting across from each other thinking the same thing. Show me what I'm looking for. While carrying on in general conversation. |

This song completely freaked me out when I first heard it. It still impacts me, though not as badly, and I find other takes on the song fascinating. Plus I want to know whether the horses coming are a good thing or not because my first impression was a dire warning. It doesn't help that reading up meanings on Indian dog days [which are good] and modern references to dogs [which are bad] to figure out what the song writer meant. And nobody here seems to agree. Some see it good. Some see it ominous. Happiness hit her like a train on a track Coming towards her stuck still no turning back She hid around corners and she hid under beds She killed it with kisses and from it she fled With every bubble she sank with her drink And washed it away down the kitchen sink *** She's someone very guarded and an event happens which fills her with joy, trust, love, you name it. Maybe, again, its alluding to her earlier reaction or how she treated being vulnerable before. Maybe someone was being a dog in the modern sense or people were being dogs and thats all over now and good is coming. And I never wanted anything from you Except everything you had and what was left after that too, oh *** I'm not sure whether this is the singer lecturing or warning the "her" she is singing about or if the singer is "her" lamenting how she felt about someone or the happiness before she fled. I hear the lament. I know the feeling. The video helps explain the general overall meaning of the song. He contributed directly or indirectly through inaction, abandonment, or both something negative that happened to her. The video.. he's smiling at her. They might have a relationship or just that instant connection. She smiles at him. Trusts him. She's happy. He continues to smile back. They are maintaining eye contact while she walks into a car he knows is coming. He is directly connected with something that hurt her, stood by while it happened without protecting or trying to stop it, then doesn't help her while she's down. He doesn't feel good about it. But thats what happens. She survives. Another man comes to her rescue. She leaves with other man. The rest of it is an apology with him using his talents for good, instead of throwing girls under the bus, giving her the gift of music which makes her happy and could potentially be a form of healing as music is considered therapeutic. The video and song really strike a chord with me. On one hand its nice he cares and is trying to make it up to her. On the other there is that "before I go" which is a reminder of him leaving in the first place. Is he giving her a gift for her to feel better or for him to feel better? |

Correction. Its "and I know how to save a life" and "I pray to God he kills you then I pray to God he heals you". I think there are other mistakes. I think the song is about two people with a strong connection. One did save the other. Due to insecurities, trauma, differences, outside influence, misunderstanding, confusion, whatever something sent them different directions. Two magnets joined by accident then pulled apart. Maybe the one saved fell hard for the rescuer but felt rejection, fear, humiliation, or was just overwhelmed and too confused and fled. Either the rescuer did not feel the same, did not respond in kind, or did not make it clear to the saved who might have been still suffering from an accident. The praying for bad things then turning around and praying for good things relates to inner conflict. When your feelings for someone are so intense they overwhelm you. On one hand you wish you never met or that they didn't exist. But you can't stand that thought so you thank God for them and that he watches over them. You love this person. But they make you feel like you are bleeding inside not knowing how they feel and not wanting to know they don't feel the same. The admission part I am not sure whether that is "he" or "you". I thought it was "you". I see it as the saved if put on the spot will either admit to their feelings or deny them. Maybe its for the saver or both. If the saved fled before over admission but not having it reciprocated my guess is, if they encountered each other, they would be right back where they were. Trying to push away the one they feel drawn to. Then history would repeat itself. Or "he will say its not the same". The very thing the saved was afraid of before. This song is about what happened and what could happen if they confront each other. They both care about each other. But how much? |

Since I'm not positive, me, the person who has been listening and possibly participating while others drag your name through the mud, thought I'd share this so you'd know where I stand when I make a decision as to what you are. So are you?" I recommend not having this conversation unless sure but then there'd be no point. A funny spin. What if those close to her suspected or knew she was interested in someone but didn't know who and the story took a life of its own? There would be a huge irony if he questioned and insinuated the same thing, angry his interest had another interest or reported "lover", and the whole time it was him. |

The title could be a double entendre [lion/lyin]. A lion man would never show or admit weakness. I don't think he's truly weak at all. It's the bigger man who can set down his pride for a moment or admit to not being perfect. He exposed his throat to a mate or past mate who thinks he's a lion. Possibly this someone was, still is, or he perceives to be vulnerable or afraid of being hurt by him. How do you get them to not flee? Expose your neck. You wouldn't do this unless you trusted them. He thinks she won't or cares enough to show her he will risk it. She probably stopped out of bewilderment. He is indicating gentleness and fondness in "dear" and telling her something is not her fault. Maybe she thought it was. Maybe that is part of the apology. Maybe in trying to fix something or make amends he accidentally spooked her again. If he lied also maybe this is a moment to come clean. "Learn from your mother or else spend your days biting your own neck" means he needs to learn from his mother about women or spend his days without a mate. Your mate is who you expose your neck to that would bite without killing you. |
