Grandaddy – He's Simple, He's Dumb, He's The Pilot Lyrics 12 years ago
The takeaway of this song, and the entire album for me, is one of isolation and a disconnect against the dangers of an overly progressive society. 2000 Man is the isolated hero.

It's all very relateable... how many of us have felt socially isolated at some point in our lives? At one point I imagine that we were all '2000 Man'... detaching ourselves from uninteresting jobs or family/friends that 'just don't understand' in some way. Like 2000 Man, we WILL return to solid ground/society (like the shift in the song) someday and likewise be greeted warmly.

But this comes at a cost! I'm surprised nobody talked much about the part in the song where he sings "I believe they want you to give in". The music and lyrics stop and all you hear is a faint piano accompaniment. 2000 Man has a tough decision to make. It's great that you're back and all, but you must play by our rules if you think you're ready to end your isolation. The final line "Don't give in 2000 man" shows Grandaddy's perspective: Don't sell yourself short. Don't conform to a society that doesn't understand you.

I like how we never find out what 2000 Man's decision was... that's up to the listener to decide.

Radiohead – Lotus Flower Lyrics 13 years ago
Beautiful song. To me it is about intense romantic/sexual desire for somebody in which it is not reciprocal. Thom is singing about battling one's emotions but ultimately knows that the right thing to do is just let it go. The Lotus Flower is a symbol of sexual purity and detachment and that's what's happening in the lyrics. The first 2 lines demonstrate the whole scenario - "I will shape myself into your pocket" / "Invisible". It's like 'I want to be with you always (in your pocket) but I'm invisible so you can do whatever'.

The second verse is 'OK - I will move on and get back to life's routine (slip into the groove) while you "cut me off"'. The third verse (beautiful) is the one where he re-affirms what he must do and what he knows to be right despite the pain - "empty space inside my heart" - it causes.

The "Slowly we unfurl" verse is about how much he's struggling with it. This is the fantasy verse. "All I want is the moon on a stick". Having the moon on a stick (a sight to behold) is completely impossible, and he knows it, but that doesn't mean he isn't curious. "I can't kick your habit" - This is the romantic/sexual desires coming up and it continues into the next verse about being "quiet as mice" and "doing what we want".

I've seen confusion about the "Just to fill your fast ballooning head" line and I think it's about stroking the other's ego because your desires have led you to believe that they're perfect.

The other lines that stand out are the "I dance around the pit" / "The darkness is beneath" lines. He knows how dangerous these desires are but thankfully is aware of the right thing to do - "listen to your heart".

Spoken like somebody who is forever trapped in 2006. Most critics panned HAA too... that is until they saw what Daft Punk did with these tracks for their "Alive 2007" tour. I encourage you to listen to their live album - Alive 2007 and then listen to HAA again. Daft Punk knows what they're doing!

I haven't laughed this hard in awhile - I love Daft Punk. Looking up the 'lyrics' to most of their songs has been very entertaining. Just proves that you don't need fancy lyrics to be an extremely talented artist.
