Grizzly Bear – Lullabye Lyrics 11 years ago
Personally, I think this is the most powerful song on the entire album. To me, this song is a soliloquy in which the speaker is simply trying to make himself feel better for whatever situation he has gotten himself into. I think the most important lyric to note in this song, possibly one of the greatest lyrics I've ever heard in my entire life, is "My love's another kind." I think the speaker is trying to prove to himself that his way of loving is so unique that whoever prompted him to speak it simply doesn't understand its power. I think that's also why the song is called Lullabye instead of Lullaby. His love is so powerful, so unique, so complicated that he is ultimately saying goodbye by singing it, because he realizes that this person does not understand or appreciate it, and therefore is incapable of reciprocating it. God, I love this song.

The Antlers – Shiva Lyrics 11 years ago
I think the loud crash and bang at the end of two was the baby being born, so shiva is about the baby's perspective as though it could speak like an adult. Talking about how her hair started growing and her face became yours, as if she was growing into her mother/father. That's what wake is, the beginning describes the adults trouble dealing with their unwanted child.

Muse – Thoughts of a Dying Atheist Lyrics 12 years ago
Only a true atheist can really understand why death would scare the hell out of one.

The Dodos – Fools Lyrics 12 years ago
To me, this song is just talking of a father's failure to create an individual personality for himself. He struggles to see the success of his son, trying to fool himself into thinking he was accomplished, but he knows that he isn't. Since he is unable to see past the facade of his child's success, he continues on with an apathetic approach to the problems of his life, because in his mind he doesn't see that anything is wrong. Then once the threat of death sets in, he sees his mistakes but it is too late for him to change his life, hence being called a "fool".

I think Meric's line "I've been, I've been silent." is his way of saying that he(or whoever the object of this song is) watched this happen to his father and did not do anything.

And no, the song is not about death, even if they did supposedly say it at Glastonbury...

We Are Scientists – After Hours Lyrics 13 years ago
I haven't really spent the time to check the later comments on this, but from what I've seen, it doesn't look like many people are getting it.

It's not about a one night stand, like most people are suggesting.
He's simply saying that he uses his extra eight hours that most people spend sleeping, and that the world comes alive when people aren't looking.

Pretty obvious to interpret the lyrics.

The Decemberists – Shiny Lyrics 13 years ago
Why is everyone talking about attraction and eyes being shiny?

When he says that "Tell me why you lie, and what it is you keep your eyes so shiny."

First off he says "Lie, not Lied"

And when girls are trying to look innocent, they get googly eyed and try to look get sympathy from others. Like the girl in this song. It's pretty common.
