David Bowie – The Man Who Sold the World Lyrics 13 years ago
This song is about the war of good vs evil - the anti-christ, or the new Judas, who has takin human form, and the protaganist who is an angel (or maybe Jesus) that has takin human form. On the stairs, the anti-chist has not yet "Sold the World", so the angel brushes him off. Later, however, the anti-christ has influenced world leaders to destroy themselves. Only a few have survived, and bowie searches for them in forien lands "I searched a foreign land, for years and years I roamed
I gazed a gazely stare at all the millions here" This might be the meek who have inherated the wold, and the phrase "We must have died alone, a long long time ago" refers to the angels who have lost the battle, and thier existance, unable to defeat evil.

David Bowie – Moonage Daydream Lyrics 13 years ago
The song is about the marrage of technology and decadence and the alienation and jadedness we feel when we replace real human touch and interaction with tech. The phrase "The church of man, love, is such a holy place to be" references the idea that, through technology, man does not need God, and becomes "holier" (I don't know where people are getting the "gay" reference - "The church of man" is about atheism in this "1984" world.)
The chorus "Keep your 'lectric eye on me babe Put your ray gun to my head Press your space face close to mine, love Freak out in a moonage daydream oh yeah!" referes to the decadent use of future adult toys and drugs, and the two charactors seem jaded by there futuistic acutraments (electric eyes, ray guns), maybe engaging in a little rollplay.
The phrases "Don't fake it baby, lay the real thing on me" and "Make me baby, make me know you really care Make me jump into the air" is the protaganist's sad atempt in finding happiness in this steril, sex-for-sex's sake, emotion-starved world.

David Bowie – Fame Lyrics 13 years ago
Does Anyone know if the bridge of the song, where he sings the decending "Fame, Fame, Fame, Fame," etc., may have been the first use of a pitch corrector (vocoder)?

David Bowie – Cracked Actor Lyrics 13 years ago
I thought I heard someone mention that it was about Peter O'Tool, who may have been 50 when this song came out.

Bauhaus – Bela Lugosi's Dead Lyrics 13 years ago
I like how the guitar is slightly out of tune in this song. It adds to the "creepyness" of it. There are only a couple of songs where an out-of-tune guitar ADDS to the song - "Helter Skelter" by the Beatles, and this song. I wonder if it was an artistic choice, or maybe he just didn't have a tuner in the studio that day. The instrumental intro and breaks on "Yellow" by Coldplay are also played out of tune for artistic effect.

Gary Numan – Are 'Friends' Electric? Lyrics 13 years ago
Reminds me of the movie "The Stepford Wives" which came out a couple of years before this song.
