The Cure – Sinking Lyrics 13 years ago
Here is what this wonderful song means to me.
Now before anybody goes off, I do know Robert said its about aging.

My interpretation, is an everlasting, inescapable depression.

I am slowing down
As the years go by
I am sinking

This sounds like somebody is giving up. They're not doing with their life(hence slowing down). Depression could last years, but it could also feel like years, even if its a few days. And sinking, they're losing the battle of depression. They can't tread the water.

So I trick myself
Like everybody else

The secrets I hide
Twist me inside
They make me weaker

When people are depressed, they generally trick themselves into thinking they're happy. The secrets he hides is all the things that depress and upset him. They not only affect them physically, but emotionally as well.

I crouch in fear and wait
I'll never feel again...
If only I could remember
Anything at all

This sounds like sitting alone, thinking, wondering. Not believing they will feel anything other than the depression. They don't remember happiness, or good memories. The only thing on their mind is the depression.

Remember, this is MY person interpretation. I am in no way saying this is what the song is about.

Green Day – Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) Lyrics 13 years ago
I think this is about enjoying the small things in life, the memories you make, the people you have, and the people you lose.
This song really reminds me of my brother, who died unexpectedly in a car crash a year ago.
It was unpredictable, but in the end was right. Everything happens for a reason. Even though he is gone, and I miss him very badly, I still have the stillframes and memories of us. All the laughs we shared, the smiles, playing ball together, us riding in the car. So many memories.

I love you Jared.
Rest in peace.

The Smiths – Asleep Lyrics 13 years ago
Im one of the only people who didn't discover this song from Perks?

This is definitely about suicide.
The character is pleading for help in the beginning, and throughout the song loses hope. Towards the middle of the song, the character proclaims he wants to be dead, and tells his friends/family to not feel bad, and that is what he wanted. Towards the end of the song he begins to think about the afterlife "There is another world, there is a better world. Well there must be", and how good it is promised and said to be. This makes him increasingly depressed. The outcome is obvious. "Goodbye.."

Morrisey really did great with the lyrics. The repetition adds to the desperation and depression. Especially the goodbyes at the end, then piano fading to a music box. That brings me to a point; I think the music box at the end represents the character looking back on his life(as is said to happen when you die), and specifically his childhood.

This song used to have a great emotional affect on me. I have listened to it so much, im unaffected..

And to anybody who wishes they would have played this wonderful song life, they did. Once.

The Cure – Numb Lyrics 13 years ago
I think its a depression induced drug binge.
"Yeah this is how it ends
after all these years
tired of it all
hopelessly helplessly broken apart
he finally falls"

He has been depressed for so long, he never escapes the depression. His life feels as if its falling apart. It finally consumes him("he finally falls").

"He doesn't want to think
doesn't want to feel
doesn't want to know what's going on"

There are many bad situations in his life. He wants to forget and escape it all, never have to think about it. Not even know it is happening.

He starts taking drugs to deal with the pain of life, and depression, becoming addicted, hence "he's in love with a drug."

Through the song the addiction gets worse, he changes completely. And by the end, he is so drugged out his brain isn't functioning right, he killed his memory, and completely screwed him up mentally.
"he isn't really here anymore..."

This song is from the point of view of a close friend(maybe relative), they notice how much he has changed because of the drug use.

It is a very sad song to say the least. I've seen this happen many times..

Weezer – The World Has Turned And Left Me Here Lyrics 13 years ago
Losing a girl. Most likely the one of your dreams.

The title is the feeling I got when I thought I was losing my love. It feels like the whole entire world turns against you. You feel alone and sad.

The whole song is his memories of her and wanting her back. He can't get her out of his mind. It just makes him more depressed. As the song goes the narrator gets more depressed. Starting with "the world has turned and left me here. Ending with "do you believe what I sing now?" He is trying to get back with her, and show he loves her. She doesn't listen or believe him hence that lyric. "I just made love to your sweet memory, I talked for hours to your wallet photograph, etc."

Its such an amazing song. One of my favorites ever.

Marcy Playground – Opium Lyrics 13 years ago
Im going to get a lot of disagreements from this interpretation but this is how I see it. The narrator is depressed, but he is in denial and pretends to be happy.

Blue like water
Blue like heaven is
all of the time
[Heaven is the place of eternal happiness]

I'm all right
I'm just gagging on all the all right
I'm so happy
So happy
I'm in heaven
Yeah heaven
[Pretending to be happy and being in such denial]

Oh the season's come for opium
[Opium is generally planted in fall. And the plant grows during winter. Winter=time of most depression/suicide rate]

Mom...mom
Mom...mom
I'm so happy
So happy
[He's telling his mom he's happy even though is depressed]

I'm in heaven
Yeah heaven
[Once again denial and heaven being eternal happiness]

Oh the season's come for opium
[Winter once again]

This is how I see it at least. Maybe its because I too am depressed.
