The Alan Parsons Project – Eye In The Sky Lyrics

@[renezeg:4938] Actually God can be an eye in the metaphorical sense... like on the back of a dollar bill.
Not that I think it's about God. But I think it has double (or multiple) meanings. I think it's primarily a love song, but with a "Nineteen Eighty-Four" leitmotif. |

This is one giant hunk of Velveeta. It belongs on a compilation album with Austin Robert's "Rocky" and. David Geddes's "Run Joey Run."
That album should come with a free "Love Story" DVD. |

@[mrrees:4934] I think people assume that because he caught her crying needlessly in the middle of the day andnthe assumption would be because she knew she was dying and that would most likely be cancer.
HOWEVER, if it were cancer, it seems likely she wouldn't have died alone. That she was alone makes it seem unexpected.

I think his imagination is running away with him in the final verse. She's not at her expected stop, so she's run off with another man? Does not follow. Great song. |

Is being able to make a "lyric correction" post just a way to let me let off steam? It doesn't seem to actually correct anything. I've given it over a year. |

The Shirelles – Foolish Little Girl Lyrics

This song is very unusual in that the chorus is not an echo of the soloist, but is in opposition, as a classic Greek chorus. Rather reminds me of "I Won;t Say I'm In Love" from Disney's "Hercules", that did the same thing, obviously intending to emulate a Greek chorus. |

Great tune. However, I would have had eight cowbell strikes starting seven seconds into the song and stopping at ten seconds.
MORE COWBELL! |

Wow, fascinating question.
Fact is, I came here to gripe about the non-sequitur of the question, "How do I get you alone?" I, like most everybody, thought that's what it was, but after playing the lyrics in their entirety, I realized the situation didn't really raise that question.
"How do I get you alone," would fit if the singer wanted to get amorous with someone, but was repeatedly stopped by the presence of other people. There is no indication that that is the case; in fact, there is no mention of any other people.
She is alone in her room. She had planned to confess her love for him that night. She tried to call him, he didn't answer. To follow that with "How do I get you alone?" is like... WHAT? "How do I get to alone" makes all the sense, however.
Now, Quangelo, the point you raise suggests the possibility that Nancy and Ann don't know themselves. Maybe they even CHANGED it, as time passed. (They did not write this song.)
The first recorded version was for the TV series "Dreams". I just played it on youtube and I'm pretty clearly hearing "to."

I take it to be about irrational fears. I think it's also somewhat tongue-in-cheek. She knows her fears are irrational, but cries about them anyway. Like the "If I disappeared..." line, she knows she won't, but thinks about it anyway.
Clever to have a song that isn't about the usual song subjects: love lust, dancing, etc., but night fears... unique. |

Plausible analysis; the political analysis seems strained. although it's always possible both are true (look at "Eye in the Sky" by the Alan Parsons Project... two meanings).
However, when she says "Try my balloon," that makes me think of a "trial balloon," I don't think it's so obvious a reference as breasts... it just means "Try me." and fits in with the overall aeronautic theme. |

I think it's somewhat inspired by Solomon Grundy (q.v.).
Definitely a very Beatles-esque tune. I've heard it compared to "Ob-La-Di," but I don't hear that. It most reminds me of "Simply Having a Wonderful Christmas Time." |

Ah yes! I see it. I knew the people saying it was a rapist were stretching. I thought it to be a more general: simply about the multiple dangers of the city, but heroin explains many of the lines. However, "never walk alone after midnight," what does that mean? |

It is uncanny how much this song sounds like it could have been done by "They Might Be Giants." sort of like when Peter Paul and Mary did "I Dig Rock and Roll Music" and deliberately tried to sound like the Mamas and the Papas. Only, I doubt the Talking Heads were emulating TMBG, they weren't very big at the time.
But the tongue-in-cheek humor, both lyrical and musical. And the nonsensicalness of the whole enterprise. And even starting a title with "Mister". Geez, how many times did TMBG do that?
The whole album "Blind" for that matter. |

Cheesy. I don't see why in a song about wanderlust and not being satisfied with what you have, they had to throw in the bit about the kid dying. Makes it artifically sadder. |

I'm confused. So this is a song about love at first sight? Do the lyrics switch perspectives? Is he singing to the object of his desire the whole time? What does "Let me tell you about the girl I met/had last night" mean? Is it an aside to the listener? |

"I've been funny, I've been cool with the lines, Ain't that the way love's supposed to be?"
I can't decide if this is unintentionally shallow, or brilliantly tongue-in-cheek. |

This song is so poorly written. Almost every line is cringeworthy. Especially, "Now who's this Don Juan I've been hearing of? Love hurts when only one's in love." Jarring shift there. At least it rhymes. |
