The Gaslight Anthem – I'da Called You Woody, Joe Lyrics 11 years ago
Minor correction, the correct lyric is probably "attack of a bluebeat" instead of "blues beat." Bluebeat was a term used to describe Jamaican music (early ska and R&B) in England. The term came from from a UK record label that released these types of music called Blue Beat Records.

It makes a lot more sense, given that The Clash sound is clearly more influenced by Jamaican music than straight up blues.

OK, "steel" makes way more sense than "steal." I guess the idea is that when he makes a promise, it's as firm as steel and some people admire him for that.

Anyone have any idea what the phrase "steals his promise" means? I've never heard it before...

For anyone interested in the Spanish Civil War, I highly recommend "Homage to Catolonia" by George Orwell for a factual account of the conflict, and Hemimgway's "For Whom the Bell Tolls" for a fictional one. Hemingway isn't super friendly to the anarchists in his book, but it's still a great read.
