Blue Öyster Cult – Veteran Of The Psychic Wars Lyrics 11 years ago
The literal phrase "Veterans of the Psychic Wars" is mentioned in the Eternal Champion trilogy. If I remember correctly, they are incarnations of the Eternal Champion who fought for so long that they forgot about everything except fighting. The current Eternal Champion calls on them for help in a battle. Those of them that die on the battefield are set free, while the rest have to wait another era (or whatever it's called; been a while) for the next battle. There's also a Hawkwind song about it called Warriors.

Blue Öyster Cult – Workshop of Telescopes Lyrics 11 years ago
I don't know all the exact details, but the overall message is that first, he was bound to the material world, and material success especially (symbolised by the "doctors and wives", at least that's the vibe I get from that line). After his "visit to the workshop of telescopes" he gained insight into the supernatural (probably tying into the whole Imaginos mythos). Also, some loose bits of information that I don't know how to intepret but which might be useful for someone else:

A silverfish is an insect which has compound eyes.

An undine is a water nymph.

Saturn was a Roman god of agriculture, time and change (death and rebirth, sowing and harvest). The planet Saturn is associated with law and also with a lot of mostly negative things like death, cold and sadness in astrology.

Anaïs Mitchell – Changer Lyrics 12 years ago
I don't think it's about adoption, because she mentions "the shape of your back when you turned it on me, one last time", which can't be about a newborn baby. I do agree the "if I can't keep it, at least let me call it by name" line evokes a mother giving up her child, though. But actually it's meant to be about love. She's acknowledging the love she feels, even though she knows it can't last.

The husband doesn't really die. The singer just envisions her standing beside her husbands grave.

Blue Öyster Cult – Sole Survivor Lyrics 14 years ago
I don't think he's choosing to die. It says 'when years had passed'. Apparently he lived there alone for several years. There's no reason why he would die now. I've got two theories about why he doesn't go aboard the starship. Either he has some kind of duty as the sole survivor that compels him to stay on the planet, or he doesn't trust the aliens in the starship. After all, he hides from them, suggesting that he couldn't just tell them to leave him alone. On the other hand, the phrase 'haunted savior' seems to suggest the first option. He's the sole survivor; he didn't save anyone else from the disaster, so he probably plays an important role in the greater scheme of things.

Blue Öyster Cult – Fire Of Unknown Origin Lyrics 14 years ago
I think it might have to do with UFOs. The lyrics aren't very specific but the music somehow sounds... science fiction-ish, and knowing BÖC, it's very well possible. She's killed by aliens (maybe because she knew too much) and he suspects something is wrong, goes looking for answers but finds nothing.

Blue Öyster Cult – Magna of Illusion Lyrics 14 years ago
I like how this song uses an old theme in it's own way. Someone shows up unexpectedly to a party, bringing a gift of misfortune. It's rather like Sleeping Beauty, or the story of the Apple of Discord. I wonder if they had that in mind when they wrote it, or if it's just a coincidence.

Blue Öyster Cult – She's As Beautiful As A Foot Lyrics 14 years ago
I don't know if 'beautiful as a foot' means she's ugly. Sounds more like a fetish or something. I looked it up and 'Fallen arch' is another word for flat feet.

I think it means just what it says. Someone says she's as beautiful as a foot, and bites into her face. Her face probably doesn't really turn into a cow's, though. It's just swollen.
