Tool – Invincible Lyrics | 4 years ago |
A part of me wonders if this about Don Quixote. The references about Ponce de Leon and phantoms. Lines about the truth never getting in his way before. It’s odd, I know. But I just can’t shake off the feeling. |
alt-J – Breezeblocks Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Wow, I never realised it was literally about Maurice Sendak's novel. I mean I knew it contained a reference. I was always under the belief it was about a domestic relationship gone sour ending in deadly consequences. And I'm not just interpreting from the video either but actually the lyrics. In other words, it sounds like someone is paranoid of losing his 'soulmate' who feels domesticity isn't all it is. So when she lashes out at him.. in a streak of paranoia, he begs her to stay only to end up murdering her in the end. Germanine, disinfect the scene.. I've always looked at that line as the moment he realizes what he's done and he's trying to clean up his tracks, essentially. The ending stanzas.. Please don't go! Please don't go! Please break my heart!! ...was basically him remembering the fallout after all was said and done. So I agree with the obsessive love. But I feel it ended in deadly consequences. In other words, domestic violence gone wrong. |
Ministry – Scarecrow Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I always felt this song was about the American Dream being a farce. The scarecrow represents the ideology of Jesus Christ out in the middle of the corn field in the midwest. The image of America's morality and all that it stands for. Progress, growth, migration. Nothing but a false decree. Just my two cents. |
Puscifer – Tiny Monsters Lyrics | 11 years ago |
So I'm finally realizing what this song is about. I still can't believe it's taken me nearly 2 years since album release to finally understand but better late than never, right? Anyways, this song is about the desert creatures that inhabit the landscape at night. Coming out scurrying the desert. Hunting for food etc. The mannequins is the audience in a storefront window watching the drama unfold before them through the window glass. And that's my take on this song. Nothing more, nothing less. |
Puscifer – Man Overboard Lyrics | 11 years ago |
So this song is about how the dry desert valley is deluged with a flood. Answering his prayer for rain for grapes to make wine with. He's let go of his mother's ghost (Horizons) who was still haunting him in the back of his mind (Telling Ghosts). Now he gets his much needed water to make his wine that he's begged the skies for (Monsoons). After proving to the land (Green Valley) that he's adaptable. |
Puscifer – Horizons Lyrics | 11 years ago |
This one is definitely about Maynard letting go of his mother's ghost (Judith) who is still haunting him in his mind. (Telling Ghosts) Spreading her ashes at the vineyard was his way of letting her go and the pain he's been through. Also, it's a kind of supplication when he's pleading with the Earth to bring rain to grow grapes. (Monsoons) He's already proven that he's adaptable to the environment. (Green Valley) Days later the desert is deluged with a flood. (Man Overboard) Alright, I get it. It's starting to fall into place. Took me a while to see it but I'm starting to understand it. |
Puscifer – Telling Ghosts Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Alright, I'm taking a major chance here. So I've never been a true fan of Puscifer. But I'm a fan of Maynard. I've been listening to this album a LOT more recently. It certainly doesn't rank as one of his best albums IMPO. But there is something about it that I kept going back to listen. Personally, after numerous times listening to this album. It has dawned on me that this is an album about the personal experience of wine-making. Finding the plot of land. Proving to the Earth that you're adaptable to the surrounding environment. Praying to the skies for rain and suddenly have your prayers answered to be deluged with a flood. But let me give you my personal opinion of what this certain song is about. This is about how his mother (Judith) is still haunting him in his mind. Even after she passed away. The past coming back to haunt him. His emotions welling up once again. Anger, rage, pain, fury. That's what this song is about. Telling his mother's specter to leave him alone and move on. Horizons (the song after this on the album) is when he finally lets go of her ghost by spreading her ashes on the vineyard. "Dust devil swept you away." Letting go all that anger, rage, pain. Also, it acts as a quiet supplication in a sense for rain. That's what Man Overboard is. The storm coming to flood the land so grapes can grow. Just my opinion. Let me know what you think. |
Madonna – Love Spent Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Unless you've been in a situation where someone just wanted you for your $$$. Then you have no idea at all. Although this song is about Madonna's situation. I can definitely relate cos it happened to me...twice. Sadly, my mother was right when she said "Money is always attractive." |
Bob Marley and the Wailers – Mr. Brown Lyrics | 11 years ago |
First line should be "Whooooo-ooooo-ooooo......is Mr. Brown?" |
Ministry – Breathe Lyrics | 11 years ago |
The sad irony of this song is it still applies today. And things really haven't improved IMO. This is the world!! It's not working!! This is this Earth!! Yeah, still powerful today. |
Radiohead – 15 Step Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Are you sure it's "15 steps then a sheer drop."? I always thought it was "15 steps then a shoe drops." Meaning we try to move forward and advance yet there's a moment that always stops us and sends us back to where we started. Just my two cents. |
Janis Joplin – As Good as You've Been to This World [#] Lyrics | 11 years ago |
In fact...I'm not sure she's saying "keep you all to himself." Sounds more like "And trying to keep it all to himself." |
Janis Joplin – As Good as You've Been to This World [#] Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Live your loving life And live it all the best you can And don't you pay no attention, Darling To what you might ever hear from your man I think he's just acting selfish And trying to keep you all to himself Tell, babe, now what makes the world go around You gotta go and, honey, share the wealth Come on, Come on, Come on |
Sonic Youth – Jams Runs Free Lyrics | 11 years ago |
It's too good...on the "C". Where the light is green. |
PJ Harvey – The Nightingale Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I just wanted to say a thousand thank you's for the link to the special edition of the booklet for LES. Better than the US version here in states. Has more pictures and illustrations. Thank you again |
Coldplay – The Scientist Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Okay, my last comment got screwed up. So I'll try again. The liner notes on album say "The Scientist is Dan". The A |
Coldplay – The Scientist Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Considering the liner notes on album state "The Scientist is Dan." I'm thinking it has to do with the A |
Coldplay – Sparks Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Oh, and it's "Oh..someone I know" Not "Sing one we know". |
Coldplay – Sparks Lyrics | 11 years ago |
It's about him losing his cool or temper. Aka "I saw sparks". I should know. It just happened to me. |
Frank Ocean – We All Try Lyrics | 11 years ago |
"I believe a woman's temple gives her the right to choose. But, baby, don't applaud." |
PJ Harvey – The Phone Song Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Most likely the situation I'm currently in dealing with texts and/or phone conversations with someone you hold in high regard. Maybe someone you have a connection with but you're both playing phone tag. Or texting each other everyday only for it to suddenly stop. With no idea why. Sorry, I'm rambling. |
Frank Ocean – Bad Religion Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Okay, I'm going to get a lot of hell for this. (No pun intended) But I sometimes wonder...although the lyrics of the first stanza state they say "I could never make him love me." Every time I hear album version of the first stanza. There's a slight change in pitch from first "him" to second "him". It sounds like he's singing: "I could never make God love me. Never make him (aka Him) love me." I wonder if this song is more about his struggle with acceptance of faith. Aka Organized Religion. Possibly even the fact that he feels he doesn't deserve that love..or faith. That's what I'm getting out of it. Does anybody else hear the "God" instead of "him" from the first stanza? Or is it me hearing it cos I was listening to it while having my "herbal tea"? |
Liz Phair – Johnny Sunshine Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Are these lyrics correct? Cause I'm hearing different lines. Like something about "You killed the cat. Put it in antifreeze" or something of the like? |
Frank Ocean – Novacane Lyrics | 11 years ago |
A driving beat with a tragic demise of a girl who wants to numb herself from whatever demons she's wrestling from within herself. The narrator (Frank Ocean) is trying to feel who she is inside but, obviously, she numbs herself (and him also) which acts as a wall from seeing who she really is. Which is a way of saying "Live in the moment." My ten cents. Great song. |
PJ Harvey – Big Exit Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I completely agree. Also, how NYC represents the American Culture as a whole considering she's an outsider from "across the pond". This song represents what she see's in "American Culture" as a whole. A sense of "Culture Shock" and paranoia. As well as a sense of restraint and hope with a loved one. |
PJ Harvey – Big Exit Lyrics | 11 years ago |
One of my favorite Peej songs that I'll constantly go back to whenever something traumatic happens that is somehow relevant to it. Which just proves the universal theme of the song regarding paranoia and hope. (Such as the recent event in Colorado at a Batman film screening.) Although released nearly 12 years ago. This song (IMO) represents PJ Harvey becoming embroiled in a collision of "American Culture". Specifically, Manhattan, aka New York City. A large metropolis teeming with so much vibrancy |
Frank Ocean – Thinkin' Bout You Lyrics | 11 years ago |
@ Lilybear Thanks. It is an amazing album. The reason I bring it up is the lyric itself has so many meanings behind it. Not only does it construe the dissolving of a relationship but also how the relationship will become a memory. To even the issues that precluded the relationship dissolving and the acceptance that it went as far as it could. To even a standard of social topics that would drive the relationship to never work. Whether from racial standpoints as a whole. Or by the fact the two individuals differ in opinions about certain aspects dealing w/ each other. Hence, the "Black and White" reference alluding to going down the same road. Ever and ever. It is a beautiful, powerful song. And I have to say that Frank Ocean, AKA Christopher Breaux, is an amazing, profound poet who literally opened his heart to everyone. And you can clearly see, hear and feel it in his songs. Brilliant talent IMO. |
Frank Ocean – Thinkin' Bout You Lyrics | 11 years ago |
This is strictly hypothetical. So I apologize in advance but I'm wondering if there's something more about the line regarding "color to black & white"? Personally speaking for myself (And I am gay). Do you feel it also has to do with racial boundaries possibly preventing the relationship from going further. I apologize for the hypothetical analogy. I'm just so enamored with this song. I feel like there's a sense of alienation, even a quiet desperation or plea, yet somehow a sad resignation (maybe acceptance?) of the relationship not being able to go further due to some inane logic of boundaries. I'm babbling but please comment if you can. Or tell me I'm being an idiot. Thanks and take care. |
Tune-Yards – Bizness Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Am I the only one that feels this song carries a political message. In regards to businesses, corporate entities, capitalism and our addiction to all these things. Perhaps even our addiction to oil? Just what I was thinking when I first heard this song. |
PJ Harvey – Plants And Rags Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I always felt this song was about being taken for granted. Or even deceived by the man she gave herself to. In a sense, she feels as if she'd rather be dead. He offered her all the finer things in life. But she was nothing more than another possession of his to show off. Never really cared for her. Just my opinion. Personally, I should know. Being gay has it's perks. |
Sonic Youth – What We Know Lyrics | 12 years ago |
This one might be about Thurston & Kim coming to terms with their seperation?? Thurston talking about himself, then Kim. Then goes off how even though they're now seperated, they actually still acknowledge and respect each other and all that they've both accomplished with SY. |
Sonic Youth – What We Know Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Yeah, I'm thinking they've been seperated since after Rather Ripped and they decided to do one more album for old time's sakes. AKA Let's jam and have one last hurrah!!! Which is what The Eternal is about. |
Sonic Youth – Antenna Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I'm wondering if this is about Thurston realizing he's lost Kim? She's out doing whatever she wants and he's left on his own; to his own devices? He's unsure how the band can go on even? "Radio's play nothing when she's far away!" Honestly, ever since Sonic Nurse, I've always felt the songs seemed more personal but I just couldn't tell from what. Now, since the announcement of the seperation between Thurston & Kim, I can't help but wonder if majority of the songs are actually about their relationship with each other? |
Sonic Youth – I Love You Golden Blue Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Again, another song about the personal struggles of Thurston & Kim. This time from Kim's perspective. The Dead Boy being her beau (Thurston) who sounds as if he's lost some spark in her mind. Dead Boy stares, "Strange to meet you!" Dead Boy cares, "So great to see you!" This first stanza...possibly meeting fans backstage? Perhaps good friends even? A fan says "Strange to meet you!" Not sure if it's Thurston saying "So great to see you!" Or if it's a good friend of theirs. Is it time to go? There's a place I know! Kim, wanting to go home, maybe? Perhaps she wants to go somewhere else? Or Thurston? It sounds like someone is either bored or just tired after a gig?? "I can't read your mind." "I can't find the time." "I can't feel the thrill." "I don't have the will." This is where I'm thrown off. I'm not sure if this is Kim telling Thurston or vice versa. But it sounds like someone is giving excuses and leaves the other alone, possibly? Dead Boy dares, "Believe in you." Dead Boy stares, afraid that you'll see him. Again, strange but I'm thinking Thurston telling Kim to do what she wants. They stare each other down. Someone's upset, that I can tell. Someone wants to do something the other doesn't want to take part of. Like a couple relationships I've been in. But I digress. Is it time to go? It's a place I know! Again, the excuses. "I can't read your mind!" "I can't find the time!" "I can't feel the thrill!!" "I don't have the will!!" Kim proclaiming her love and yearning for Thurston. Unsure of what to do. I love you, Atomic Blue! I love you, Golden Blue!! I miss you, shining alone. I miss you! I don't know what to do. Kim stating that she needs him? Maybe even admitting she's lost without him?? I don't glitter like the stars above, I don't glow like neon alone, I don't blush. It's just the wind outside. You don't rush to be by my side. Well, there you have it. My two cents. Whatever that's worth. If anyone else can help translate the cryptic lyrics. Like who's saying what to who? I'm sure we'd get a lot closer to finding out what really went on between both Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon. |
Sonic Youth – Unmade Bed Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Considering the breakup of indie rock's power couple. I always wondered about this song when it was first released from the album "Sonic Nurse". After listening to it multiple times, I've come to realize this song is, in fact, more personal than I originally thought. More to the point, a LOT of songs from their recent albums are about Thurston & Kim sung from both perspectives. This song seems to be about Thurston confessing to Kim that he knows he's not perfect. And, yeah, he's like an unmade bed. Here's the lyrics that I feel the song is trying to convey. Look who's come back home again, Loser looking for his lucky break, This time he says he just needs a friend. He ain't on the run, He ain't on the take. Thurston to Kim: "Can you unlock this door, babe? Will you just undo the chain?" Obviously, something happened and Kim locked his ass out the door. He's asking her to open the door. Will you take your time before you mix up love? His love and pain? Thurston outside the door getting into Kim's head. Wondering if she'll let him in. Loneliness lays down his head. He wants to get you high. You better take it now. A man like that's like an unmade bed. (Thurston talking about himself) Stained eyes searching for another way out. Kim to Thurston or vice-versa? "Do you really even want this? Maybe you just don't care?" All I(Thurston) know, it takes just one kiss, babe, from me. He's never there. (Again, talking about himself.) Thurston understanding Kim's upset at him Hey, I know it's kinda hard. And, maybe, this time it'll never end? Hit & Run lover back in your heart. All those answered prayers you should never have sent. Cos now that your in his(Thurston) arms, babe. Know that your just in his way. (Thurston hinting he's going to do it again, whatever it is.) Suckered by his fatal charm. (Thurston knowing he has Kim back) Thurston to Kim: "Oh, girl, it's time we get away." (To patch things up? Make another album and tour?) Okay, so this was a long post. But, yeah, I'm thinking this was Thurston's way of telling Kim he knows he can be difficult. At least, IMO. |
Liz Phair – Shatter Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Since it's Valentine's Day & I'm moving on from a 5 year relationship. This is my song of choice today. I agree w/ Missme on the song's meaning cos this is what I'm going thru. I won't bore you all w/ details but I do want to point out the line "Not to miss that boat completely" is actually "Not to list that boat completely". As in, rocking the boat. She's gone to great lengths to keep her man happy but's not reciprocated so she sleazes around w/ other guys. He probably finds out & throws it in her face, etc. Lots of sadness & regret for both involved. Such is life, I guess. Happy Valentines! |
Stone Temple Pilots – Cinnamon Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Okay, you're all gonna think I'm crazy but this song is brilliant. I know it sounds like a happy-go-lucky pop song. Personally, I don't think there is anything happy about it. If you listen to the lyrics. It seems like a plea. Especially the verse near the ending. "Where did you come from? Where are you now?? Two-sided angel! It seems like you left me when you fall down!!" The other clues being, "We both talk/know about love" etc. This is a pretty sad song. Kinda tongue in cheek w/ a light-hearted beat. Yet is about the dark nature of love. Whadda ya think? Or am I thinking WAY too much? |
Stone Temple Pilots – Maver Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Agreed. Although, I'd like to point out the title of song. If you notice, Maver is short for Maverick. According to Oxford dictionary, Maverick is "An unothodox or independent-minded person". So it's the story of a free-spirited girl moving to the big city to strike it big. Except life always has an unexpected bend down the road. Kind of a somber tale. Weiland always had a country streak. (Creep, anybody?) he just rarely shows it. A beautiful song IMO |
