Dream Theater – This Dying Soul Lyrics 14 years ago
Two things - the so-called "rap" vocals contribute to the heaviness and darkness of the song, which is AWESOME, and the fifth part [V. Release], vocally, is very similar to the verses of Metallica's "Blackened".

Just something I'd like to point out.

Dream Theater – The Best of Times Lyrics 14 years ago
Just... wow. Emotional - one word to sum it up. Whenever I turn it on, I just feel so distraught; that's the kind of music I enjoy: music that connects to your emotions.

Especially during JP's guitar solo - sometimes I'll listen to it at night with nothing else on, and i just can't help but start crying. It's deep, man...

Dream Theater – Honor Thy Father Lyrics 14 years ago
For me, I can definitely, 100%, relate this song to my biological father. He was a drug dealer/addict who constantly beat my mother, and he even sent her to jail with her in 2002 - all in all, I hope that son of a bitch of a father is rotting in prison or is dead!

Dream Theater – Metropolis, Pt. 1: "The Miracle and the Sleeper" Lyrics 14 years ago
My interpretation (keep in mind, this is MY OWN, not Petrucci's or DT's)
(And yes, I know of the connection to Scenes From A Memory; I'm just saying, if this was a stand-alone, this is what it could be):

Two people, a boy and a girl, are telepathically connected; they are in two distant regions, but they know in their hearts that hey can't live without one another.

Enter the three dances: Death, Deceit, and Love.

The first dance, Death, could signify the death of the girl's parents, or of a close loved one. The girl feels extremely distraught, and somehow becomes linked to a boy in a far-off region.

The boy is also living life alone, with no one to watch over him, and becomes so attached to this connection, he can't live life without this mysterious person by his side.

That is when he decides to forsake all that he has known and search for this mysterious girl.

This is the second dance: Deceit.

The girl knows of this, and decides to find him, as well. He then tells her, "Just keep my heart in your eyes and we'll stay alive..."

And so, the journey begins.

Throughout the instrumental break, the two are hectically searching for each other, and when the break is over, the two find each other. Realizing this, they find out that their struggles' end can mean that they can now live the life they have pursued - a life together.

This is the third dance: Love, also known as the Dance Of Eternity.

Dream Theater – The Ministry of Lost Souls Lyrics 14 years ago
This song is about a boy who attempts to save a girl from drowning, but, unfortunately, fails and loses his life.

However, the two, who were very close friends, or possibly even lovers, reunite in Heaven.

That's my take on this song.

Dream Theater – Hollow Years Lyrics 14 years ago
My opinion - it's about 2 different people, a man and a woman, who decide to "walk away" from their current lives/relationships because of certain personal issues within their respective lives/families. Certain things never happened in their lives, so they just decided to walk out.

The verses, in my mind, aren't talking about the people written in the lyrics (1st verse, the man; 2nd verse, the woman), it's actually reversed.

My interpretation of the 1st verse is that it is about the woman realizing her boyfriend/husband has left her because he was tired of the way his life had become ("leaves his family for an easy out"), and that of the 2nd verse is that it is about the man who notices that his girlfriend/wife has left him; he then understands that she just lead him on to a certain point where she's happy and just leaves ("She'll give you all the signs, she'll tell you everything, then turn around and walk away).

But what I see at the very end of he song (namely, the "Live at Budokan" version, when Petrucci starts his 2-minute guitar solo) is that the man and the woman, who were once close childhood friends, reunite after X amount of years (9-15 years, perhaps), and realize that the person they longed for after all these years was themselves. (Sorry if I'm using improper English...)

In short, the man and woman who have reunited realize that they were always in love with each other, but were too scared to confess to each other, and decided to live a simple life (pardon the cliche...), but that was never what they truly wanted; what they wanted was each other.

And so, at the very end, the man and woman decide to live a life together and share a life of happiness.

You're probably wondering, "How did he think of this long description?"

The truth: I have no fucking idea. This sort of thing always happens whenever I listen to Dream Theater music.
