Florence + the Machine – Seven Devils Lyrics | 12 years ago |
There's an interview on YouTube where she discusses the meaning of her songs on Ceremonials. According to Florence, Seven Devils could be interpreted as the seven deadly sins, however, she says she wasn't thinking about that when she wrote it. She referred to a book by Chester Himes called 'If He Hollers, Let Him Go'. It's about an african American around WW2 who works in a shipyard and has to deal with racism, work discrimination and anti-communist fears. He is so angry and frustrated about all he has to deal with that he often battles thoughts of murdering and raping the people around him to get back at 'white america'. She said she read the book and it was beautifully written and one of the quotes in the book says something like 'I woke up with seven devils in me' and Florence says she liked that quote and wrote her song. To me, the lyrics and this story are disconnected a bit. I favor the deadly sins idea to the one she had, but to each their own, I guess. I'm just stating what she said, but I have my own interpretation just like all of you have your own. |
Florence + the Machine – Leave My Body Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I interpret it as a relationship between her body and her soul. It sounds like she wants to leave her flesh/reality because life seems to be cruel and trivial at times and she wants to experience the absolute peace, carelessness and spiritual experience of being away from her body and life in general. She wants to not care, she wants to lose her mind (turn off her thoughts), leave her heart (stop feeling emotions) and she doesn't need what the World has to offer her. She wants to feel nothing. Her body is the human part of her, not her soul. Perhaps she is just done with the human part of her and wants to be free from sorrows of the past and anxieties of the future. Just my interpretation, but I think anyone could cast their own opinion on it and it may work. |

Rammstein – Ich Tu Dir Weh (English) Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Plus the first line "Nur für mich bist du am Leben" (You're only alive for me). I really think it's a message from the soul to the body. |

Rammstein – Ich Tu Dir Weh (English) Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Love it! I think it's about an abusive, one way relationship, however, the line "Ich seh' im Spiegel dein Gesicht" (I see your face in the mirror) makes me think maybe it's abuse towards your own self. The line "Du blutest für mein Seelenheil" (You bleed for the salvation of my soul)leads me to believe it's the soul talking to the body. The soul hates the body so abuses it but the body still loves the soul? Not quite sure. I could totally be off it's just a guess. With people absolutely loathing everything about their bodies these days (how sad) it's totally possible this song is touching on that subject. |
