I agree that this song is about a cynic. This song means a lot to me as I was becoming more and more cynical, needing to find fault with everything, just critiquing, until even something I liked until I couldn’t enjoy anything. My interpretation: Talking shit about a pretty sunset = Finding fault with everything Blanketing opinions that I'll probably regret soon, Changed my mind so much I can't even trust it = Even being afraid to like something for fear of it disappointing you and there being a fault with it of being “wrong” and regretting it. My mind changed me so much I can't even trust myself = Just being confused about what to like, what to hate, being afraid to have opinions… so just hating everything in sight instead. God, this song says it all — its so conforting to read lyrics you can relate to and know that someone out there feels the same. …and this is the 199th comment buried at the back so no-one shall ever know… :) |

God I love how they just OWNED Twilight while being really polite about the whole thing. Apologies for the long Post about the album: I think album’s taking you to take risks, rather then staying in the lines… but being bored. The whole Killjoys storyline is a metaphor for this. Its not a concept album, ‘cause there’s no story line except in the videos — its just a “loose art experiment”. Not to be condescending, but its annoying how many people don’t get this — especially the “OMG GO BACK TO BULLETZ” people (don’t get me wrong I love that album) but it would be boring to more of the same… if you want bullets, listen to bullets. Also the “Destroy something perfect to make it beautiful” thing explains the use of synths and stuff — watch some interviews, they explain the concept way better than I could :) Also how different all the songs on the album are — every song is someone’s favourite and least favourite, I think that’s the mark of a great album. I started off more drawn to the heavier, rougher tracks (Destroya, Vampire Money) but now Bulletproof Heart, The Only Hope…, and S/C/A/R/E/C/R/O/W are stuck on repeat. |

Ok, this song took me a while to get into, but now I love it. I love how the beautiful, calm sound contrasts with some dark underlying tones. So analysis: From a basic point “Scarecrow” is the group of exterminators working for BL/ind but of course there is a deeper metaphorical meaning. Personally, I interpret it to be about leaving innocence behind to some extent with lyrics like “playground eyes” and “make a wish when your childhood dies”. I could be wrong, but since the whole concept of the album promotes individuality and freedom, the scarecrow killing you is a metaphor for losing that individuality. So perhaps it’s saying that you lose something when you grow up, that you lose a spark. And it’s telling you to “hide” so you never lose that vibrancy and freedom. Anyone agree? |

Wow - I love how all of Brand New's songs are so different. Even though I've had this song for ages, I've suddenly become odly addicted to it and can't stop playing/singing it. Think it is 'Reverie', meaning they came in a bleary, dreamlike state - maybe awe? Also like the theory that the parenthies are cause it was originally 'Untitled 07 (fork and knife) *starts humming song again* |
