I always thought, that the "weight of the steel of the flat of the blade" refers to the act of being knighted, as you would get touched with the flat side of a swords blade. Otherwise I really like your interpretation, XTimmy |

I always thought it's about getting the feeling that something bad's gonna happen, but you go along anyway. Maybe even more so reflecting on that feeling after the bad thing has happened to you. "Can't feel the pain that I expected" So the "incident" (so to call) already happened, but the pain is not as hard as expected. "I still place keys in the ignition I know what will be" Always had me thinking of when I went to have a "talk" with my then-girlfriend and I had the feeling it's about to end but still I got in my car and drove to her. (It ended on that day, btw.) Only the order of the lines seems slightly odd to support this interpretation. Those lines however are a complete mystery to me: "Could be your last resort Like gold against your soul" and "I hold your birth control to ransom The cells divide and grow inside you" (Could be that the "you" that is reffered to is pregnant, but.. how does it fit into the rest of the song?) |

I think it's quite obviously a song about leaving a very important person in your life (most likely your girl- or boyfriend) and deciding to start a new chapter in your life. "Teasing all my feelings out, you move away It seems so natural to you" This line (amongst others) makes me believe that the character of this song has been left by his partner whilst he himself put lots of efforts and feeling into the relationship. The sound of the chorus combined with the lyrics make me think that it's taking a lot of self-discipline and is very hard for the character to "draw the line" and to "shut out" the person that left him. This also fits with the main theme of the album: "Incidents that turn your life around", as either the end of the relationship or the decision to lay it to rest is such a turning point. |
