It's funny, the first time I heard this song I hated it, I thought it was such a waste of a track. I was listening to it today on my iPod and realized how much I've grown to love it. It's soothing to me, even though the lyrics are far from comforting. |

God, this song kicks so much ass. <3
I think it's very clearly about Davey's distaste for current organized religion and how small-minded and ignorant religious zealots can be. It's a very anti-discrimination, anti-prejudice song as well, especially with the lines about "pure love" referring to the current struggle between gay people and religious bigots in the fight for equal rights. |

I know this sounds corny, but I've always thought that "the gift" was life. And he feels like he's ungrateful all the time and doesn't deserve to live because of it. He's ashamed of himself for not treasuring his life the way he should, but it's hard because of his fear and his sadness. |

It's about a friend that's severely depressed (and possibly contemplating suicide.) This song is basically his attempt to comfort and save that friend. Interesting that the lyrics and subject matter are so dark yet this is the poppiest song on the album. Nice juxtaposition. |

I think this song is about the human condition, basically. It's about being afraid to take a chance or move on because of what could possibly come in the future. The message of this song is summed up in the simple line "It's alright." Like Brian says, we have no way to know what's heading our way, so we just have to live our lives and take the bitter with the sweet, take everything in stride as it comes.
Without a doubt, the best song on Carnavas and my second favorite SSPU song. |

This song is amazing. The lyrics are genius and like someone else said, pretty self-explanatory. I love how Swoon is so less cryptic than Carnavas, while still remaining beautiful and poetic. This song is the perfect example of that. <3 |

This is quite clearly a breakup song. Now that he's leaving her, he's saying it's time for everything to be brought out into the open. He's not holding back and telling her everything he always wanted/needed to say. It's a bit harsh ("Who would know/all the reasons you're a bore") so obviously the relationship was a rocky one. |

This song is so powerful.
I think it's about having a relationship with someone that's strictly sexual, possibly even friends with benefits, and it's very likely the girl was a virgin, because of the line "Do you see how the wind in your hair now feels differently?" A lot of people, women especially, feel changed after they lose their virginity, like they're someone else. Then, a lot of unexcpected emotions start to crop up and he doesn't know how to handle it. Thus, they end the arrangement and it's rather bittersweet for him. The last lines "Guess the lure was enough, yes, the lure was enough" suggest he's trying to tell himself that he's ok, but it seems that he's really not. |

My favorite song on Swoon and my favorite SSPU song ever. It's mindblowing.
I totally think it's about an on again/off again relationship, with a lot of problems and fights. Every time they get back together, they find themselves still dogged by the mistakes and complications of their past ("To feel safe again, look over your shoulder.") He loves her and she loves him, but ultimately it's not enough. And the end about the royal we, he's saying that the blame lies with both of them. Although she's probably more willing to blame him, after he leaves, he reminds her that it's both of their fault, and he has to admit it for her, because he knows she never would. That's my take on it. |
