The Black Keys – Little Black Submarines Lyrics | 11 years ago |
The last sentence of your first paragraph makes you sound like a cranky old man. It was actually the kids walking around with Grateful Dead, Rolling Stones, and Dead Kennedys shirts that bothered me the most in high school. They were entirely too pretentious. I think anyone with a brain knows that very little in music today is going to be unique or original, but that's not really the point; the point of making music today is to make something that is unique and personal to the musician. If it comes from an authentic place to the musician, it just might resonate with an audience. And I don't think The Black Keys have ever claimed that their music is not a blend of various genres/bands/time periods in music. A lot of early Black Keys is very bluesy, but a lot of classic rock artists took cues from traditional blues artists. Everybody is going to sound like everybody else. |
Mute Math – All or Nothing Lyrics | 12 years ago |
How has no one commented on this yet? This new album is pure gold. Mute Math always surprises me. This song is probably my favorite, along with Quarantine. |
Arcade Fire – The Suburbs Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This song is so haunting. Funeral and Neon Bible made me nostalgic of a Tim Burton-esque childhood I never even experienced. The Suburbs makes me feel like something is off and wrong at every point... ... but in a really, really good way. Like I realized what a horror my childhood was and am fleeing impending doom. I fucking love Arcade Fire. |
Missy Elliott – Work It Lyrics | 13 years ago |
God, so many of you are a bunch of elitest assholes. "This song sucks" and "Rap sucks" are not discussing the lyrical content. Jesus, you don't have to like it, but whenever I look at indie lyrics, I rarely see anything criticizing its entire genre. You guys are a bunch of punks. |
Patrick Stump – Cute Girls Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Patrick said on his twitter that this song is about misogyny, so I'll take his word. I love it, though. Definitely one of my favorites. He just sounds so good. |
Tokyo Police Club – Top Five Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I can't believe they started performing this song mere months after Champ dropped. I love it so much already. They played it for the first time at my show in KCMO, and I'm pretty sure I peed with delight... ... anyway. I think Dave is sort of mocking all of these "top best" and "top favorites" and "top reasons" that we've become obsessed with, while also talking about none other than a girl he's into, and the top five reasons they should ultimately be together, which may not be the safest idea (like owning a motorcycle), but still a good one. |
OK Go – Louisiana Land Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I think this is the most obviously political song they've ever written. I think it could be argued that some of their songs have an undertone of mocking conservative government and anyone else who they think is politically idiotic. I mean, Damian wrote "How Your Band Can Fire Bush" for god's sake, and Damian isn't religious at all, so we know where they (specifically Damian) stand. It's no secret. But I love that they just went for it in this song, and it still sounds wonderful. Plus the melody is simple, but still danceable. Plus I love that Damian is almost yelling the lyrics. Like he really wants you to shut up and listen. And DO something. It's moments like these that make me remember why OK Go is my absolute favorite band in the whole world. Brilliant. Favorite song on the new album. |
Bob Dylan – Moonshiner Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Underrated. |
Bob Dylan – Honey, Just Allow Me One More Chance Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I love how he plays around with his voice and you can hear his youthful exuberance in the songs on this album. I honestly can't help but smile the entire song through. AMAZING. |
Arkells – Tragic Flaw Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Apparently, it's about Max's ex. Cute. And sad. |
Miniature Tigers – Dino Damage Lyrics | 13 years ago |
The first time I listened to this, I also fell in love with the band, and since then, I haven't been able to picture anything else besides the band trying to raise a family of baby dinos. It's adorable and scary all at the same time. |
Bob Dylan – Tell Me, Momma Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I lovvvvvvvvve this song. I love the way he sings it, and they way he sort of shouts in a raspy voice "miiiiiinnnnnddd". I'm not a big fan of pet name exchanges like "baby" and "momma" etc, but if Dylan's singing it... I'm usually pretty into it. Sorry... my crush came out. :\ |
Bob Dylan – Tangled Up in Blue Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I only read part of the first page, so forgive me if I'm repeating someone, but it wouldn't make much sense if, when talking about dealing in slaves, he meant himself getting some corporate job or working for "the man". Throughout the entire song, he speaks from first person, so why all of a sudden would he switch to third if he was referencing himself? I feel like he's talking about someone else, like the person she was living with? I mean, after he meets her again, he says "I lived with THEM on Montague St", so who is them? Sara and who? |
Neutral Milk Hotel – Two-Headed Boy Pt. 2 Lyrics | 13 years ago |
When he begins singing the "In my dreams" stanza, I get chills. Every.Freaking.Time. So gorgeous. |
Bob Dylan – Maggie's Farm Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Louis126 you need to chill. Someone above mentioned Reagan and how this song could be Dylan criticizing Reagan's politics, so Bellyfull was just commenting on it. And what happened to freedom of speech? Seriously. |
Bob Dylan – The Times They Are A-Changin' Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I know it's been a big joke ever since he started that Dylan can't sing, but honestly it's his unique voice that makes his so great, in my opinion. Voice is obviously a big factor in what makes us like a particular artist/song (like, other than Daughtry sucking ass in general, his voice makes me convulse and start vomiting), and I think Dylan is an incredible singer just BECAUSE it's unorthodox. |
Bob Dylan – Don't Think Twice, It's All Right Lyrics | 13 years ago |
The whole song is sort of saying, Okay. You screwed me over, but I'm going to be the bigger person and just move on. And at the end I feel like despite all the maturity, he just slaps a big f you across her face by saying "You kinda just wasted my precious time". Haha. |
Bob Dylan – It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding) Lyrics | 13 years ago |
The way he sings "I got nothing, Ma, to live up to" gives me chills every single time. God damn genius. ::bows:: |
Born Ruffians – The Ballad Of Moose Bruce Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Sounds like a man who isn't quite right in the head who's just trying to cope with being a human in this silly world. In the end, I feel like Luke is trying to sum up the moral of the story, saying we have to just accept life as it is and make the best of it, despite not getting a say as to being born at all. All in all, I love this song. It was the first song I heard while listening to 'Say It' all the way through that really caught my attention. Beautifully done. Luke is brilliant in being able to display so much emotion in his voice. Great, great, GREAT! |
Born Ruffians – Higher And Higher Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Fucking shit. This song is simply glorious. Born Ruffians have definitely not disappointed us with this album (not that they ever have). Brilliant! |
Tokyo Police Club – First Date Kit Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I'm confused as to why they'd repeat "first aid kit" over and over in the song, but it's called "First Date Kit"...? Or is that supposed to be the point? |
Tokyo Police Club – Frankenstein Lyrics | 14 years ago |
corrections: "I'm the south" instead of "I'm a sap" "the nuclear whim with the fuse of a mile" and "WHO is late all the time" instead of "he" |
Tokyo Police Club – Not Sick Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Correction: "not serious or taken seriously" after the second verse "IS IT a call for an emergency" "so what is it like for your SONG on karaoke night" |
Tokyo Police Club – Big Difference Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Corrections according to the lyrics sheet: "he says he's ALRIGHT but not sorry" |
Tokyo Police Club – End Of A Spark Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Corrections according to the lyrics sheet: "MARK the end of an age" "WE should always pretend" |
Tokyo Police Club – Wait Up (Boots Of Danger) Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Corrections from lyrics sheet: "you never use words you CAN afford" and the sheet says it's "a house with anything inside" so that doesn't really clear it up because he definitely doesn't sing that. TPC has also decided to label the song "Boots of Danger (Wait Up)" on the actual CD. Ha. |
Tokyo Police Club – Favourite Colour Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Corrections according to the lyrics sheet: "try and act alright" instead of "try not to write" and it's definitely "'cause I've got no plans if you don't" |
Tokyo Police Club – Favourite Food Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Corrections according to the lyrics sheet: "with a heart attack on your PLATE" "with a lollipop and a ROBE" "and your favourite food still tastes the same" instead of "and your fate will feel and taste the same" "WHEN the best and the brightest turn their televisions on" |
Tokyo Police Club – Bambi Lyrics | 14 years ago |
It's "barely awake" and "spinning threads to A throne" according to the lyrics sheet. |
Tokyo Police Club – End Of A Spark Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I feel like this song is about the end of that spark you have in your eye as a kid. But in the song, he's saying that as long as we know that it's still there, we can access it and will always remember it. I love the way Dave sings the entire bridge lyrics from "I am a gear" through "a piece of the part". Lovely. |
Tokyo Police Club – Favourite Colour Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I thought it was "I got no plans if ya don't"? It sounds like he's slurring it all together, but I feel like that makes more sense. |
Tokyo Police Club – Not Sick Lyrics | 14 years ago |
It sounds like he says "get serious about the way that you are" instead of "like the way that you are" to me. |
Tokyo Police Club – Bambi Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I am so glad you've got these up already. I need to start singing the right words in time for Bonnaroo! This song is incredible, by the way. |
Tokyo Police Club – Not Sick Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Fucking amazing. |
Aerosmith – Falling in Love (Is Hard on the Knees) Lyrics | 14 years ago |
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good. |
Aerosmith – Rag Doll Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I have loved Aerosmith all my life (I'm 20 now), and this is my favorite song by them. SO great and SO fun. Aerosmith is such a win. |
Tokyo Police Club – Favourite Food Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I'm so desperately in love with this song. I think it's just about looking back on your life and experiencing nostalgia. |
OK Go – Skyscrapers Lyrics | 14 years ago |
The ending instrumental makes me feel so many different things all at once. OK Go, you've done it again. |
OK Go – In The Glass Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I can't pick a favorite from this album, but this is definitely one of the many. Favorite line of the entire album is from this song, "Every day is the same: we're praying for rain" (next to the line about love saving us in "Back From Kathmandu"). |
OK Go – While You Were Asleep Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This song is so hauntingly beautiful. I think the first part is him remembering how things used to be. He's reminiscing the way he used to watch her sleep and just take in her beauty. The second part is him alone, and realizing how dull the world is without her. I think the chorus is him still being selfish. It didn't work out between the two, but he's still pleading to be able to be who he thinks he should be and for her to love him just as that. So sad, and I am in love with it. |
OK Go – Back From Kathmandu Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Still my favorite from the album! And it's even more incredible performed live. God I love this band. |
Tokyo Police Club – Breakneck Speed Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I am so in love with this song. Just getting back to the way things were. Beautiful. |
Dave Matthews Band – Two Step Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Could it be about two soldiers' love affair? |
Kate Nash – Skeleton Song Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think this song is about whatever the hell we want it to mean. :) The best artists leave room for argument. |
Fall Out Boy – The Patron Saint of Liars and Fakes Lyrics | 14 years ago |
It's funny that you're criticizing this band, when, if you look back, all of the "greats" you listed have had critics of their own. Back when they were around, there were people just like you who talked about how mundane and unoriginal and shitty The Smiths or Iggy Pop were/was, and I'm sure they referenced some earlier music. It's important to recognize the history of music and all of the important musicians who helped pave the way, but I think it's ridiculous to say that an entire generation of music is useless and mundane, and that the culture that follows it is conditioned to think it's good. Every generation has it's successes and failures, and while Fall Out Boy may not be on your top 100 list of greatest bands in the 21st century, they kind of started a little musical revolution. Yes, they're definitely pop, and they'd never argue otherwise. But The Beatles were pop, too. Paul McCartney is kind of one of the leaders of the genre. They may have been more pop than punk, but so what? My point is that every band and musician has its hits and misses. I guarantee that in 20+ years, because of the crowds and scenes that FOB has pulled together, this is the band that a bunch more snot-nosed, arrogant pretentious kids will be referencing, talking about how today's music and generation don't know good music and how Fall Out Boy really knew how to make it happen. Your opinion is yours to keep, but you're being a bit ridiculous with your argument. |
Vampire Weekend – Cousins Lyrics | 14 years ago |
It should be: "You and the smart ones side outside of their sight" instead of "You and the model sit outside..." |
Vampire Weekend – Taxi Cab Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Correct lyrics from booklet: Unsentimental Traveling around Sure of myself Sure of it now But you were standing there so close to me Like the future was supposed to be In the aisles of the grocery And the blocks uptown I remember Remember well But if I'd forgotten Could you tell? In the shadow of your first attack I was questioning and looking back You said, "Baby we don't speak of that" Like a real aristocrat Compound to compound Lazy and safe Wanted to leave it Wanted to wait When the Taxi door was open wide I pretended I was horrified By the uniform and gloves outside Of the courtyard gate You're not a victim But neither am I Nostalgic for garbage Desperate for time I could blame it on your mother's hair Or the colors that your father wears But I know that I was never fair You were always fine Unsentimental Traveling around Sure of myself Sure of it now But you were standing there so close to me Like the future was supposed to be In the aisles of the grocery And the blocks uptown I remember Remember well But if I'd forgotten Could you tell? In the shadow of your first attack I was questioning and looking back You were standing on another track Like a real aristocrat |
Vampire Weekend – Run Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Corrections from the booklet: "changing roles" instead of "change in rows/rolls" "worlds away from cars" instead of "words away" "'cause all they'll do is stay" instead of "'cause all they do is stay" (minor change, I know) "battin radio" instead of "battered" at the very end |
Vampire Weekend – Run Lyrics | 14 years ago |
In the booklet that came with the CD, it's "changing roles" |
Harlem Shakes – Natural Man Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Also, this is my favorite song by them. One of my favorite songs at the moment period, actually. I love the line "watching the world". It makes me feel like everything is okay and like the world is so beautiful. Love it :) |
