Shinedown – Second Chance Lyrics 13 years ago
I've never been in the military, so your interpretation has never occured to me. Reading it has moved me to tears, man. Please know that those of us who understand the world differently than a lot of people love you for being one of our nation's warriors and are glad you made it home. God Bless, man.

Creedence Clearwater Revival – Have You Ever Seen the Rain? Lyrics 13 years ago
It may have originally been about the band's demise, but when he did the CCR songs at a concert for the Viet Nam Vets, he clearly knew it had a special meaning to them. On the last verse, it went to just a drum beat. He sang as if he were talking directly to the Vets, "Hope you got your SHIT together; hope you are quite prepared to die..". The Vets cheered their appreciation for his sentiment.

Creedence Clearwater Revival – Have You Ever Seen the Rain? Lyrics 13 years ago
I feel rather foolish. I'd always thought this song was about Viet Nam. I thought asking "Have you ever seen the rain?" meant "Have you ever been under fire?" or "Have you ever seen bombs dropped in battle?"

Heart – These Dreams Lyrics 13 years ago
I have a recording of a "Supergroups In Concert" where she changes the lyrics a tiny bit. Instead of "White skin, in linen" she says "White skin, black leather".

Mike And The Mechanics – Silent Running Lyrics 13 years ago
Like all of you, this song has fascinated me from the first time I heard it. I also believe the meaning is meant to be interpreted by the listener. My view of it has evolved into quite a back story over the years for personal reasons I won't go into. I've come to believe that the singer represents a soldier in God's Army. The forces of evil have taken control of the government and spirituality has either been outlawed or perverted and twisted to fit the occupying forces' purposes. He has human form, but he is actually an angel. He may have been a human soldier who died in a noble way and was made an angel. The war is taking place both physically and metaphysically. He says he's with the "High Command" which she probably interprets as the resistance which is most likely made up of remnants of the country's original armed forces. He actually means he is with THE High Command. The Army Of Heaven. He is now speaking to his widowed wife whom he cannot reveal his former identity to. He is posing as a resistance fighter. The war has begun to go against the occupying forces and the result is that civilians will now be at even greater risk than before. "By now the fighting will be close at hand". Anyone caught with weapons is probably shot on sight which is why he tells her to only use the gun he mentions in an extreme emergency. She will later wonder how he knew there was a gun in the cellar. The war, although going badly for the forces of evil, is far far from being close to an ending. He tells her to hide her hatred deep down. Feign loyalty to the occupying forces and discreetly teach her children the truth about spirituality and the real cause of the war so they will eventually be able to defeat the bad guys for good. In his agony at seeing his family at such risk, he slips and mentions being protected from "up here" because Heaven is where his life essence is actually eminating from. Yeah, I'm a hopeless romantic and have a VIVID imagination, okay?

Wow. I feel like a simple minded fool. I always thought this song was about medical experimentation on animals.

Deep Purple – Knocking At Your Back Door Lyrics 14 years ago
It IS "common cunnilinguist". This site had it wrong. With the song's subject matter, what else could it be?

Billy Squier – In The Dark Lyrics 14 years ago
Couldn't agree more, man. This has always been my favorite of Billy's songs. I'm a fan of the TV series "Supernatural" which often uses classic rock songs as backdrops to particularly important sequences. I've always thought this song would make a very good one. If you look at the lyrics cryptically, they could very well be talking about the life of hunters like Sam & Dean Winchester. Incidently, YouTube has several excellent vids of Billy doing an acoustic version of this one. It's great.

Eagles – Hotel California Lyrics 15 years ago
I've never thought of "Hotel California" as a concept album. Very interesting idea. Now that I think about it, though, "Life In The Fast Lane", "Wasted Time" and "Victim Of Love" do sort of fit this interpretation. I always knew that part of the title track was about drug use, but knew nothing of the church mentioned. My overactive imagination thought the storyteller had somehow unwittingly sold his soul and was trapped in a sort of purgatory. As for the true meaning, daffyb's story is believable in my opinion. I think Mr. Henley is like most song writers in that he had a specific idea in mind when it was recorded but he also encourages the listener to interpret it for themselves.

Eagles – Witchy Woman Lyrics 15 years ago
Of course part of it is about heroin addiction. If it was referring to being "born with a silver spoon in her mouth", it wouldn't say she drove herself to madness with it. I was a very sheltered kid but even I knew that way back when it first came out. Heroin users mix and sterilize their fix in a spoon over a candle before injecting it. The song is about a stunningly beautiful woman who has gone bad somewhere along the way; the chick everyone gossips about. She is promiscuous in the extreme, addicted to heroin, either close to being totally insane or already there and is rumored to have killed one of her lovers. The "bible thumpers" in the town have declared that she is truly a witch; in league with the devil.

Bruce Springsteen – Blinded By The Light Lyrics 15 years ago
Back when Manfred Mann's version of this song came out, I was told by a DJ friend that it was written in some sort of code that only Springsteen and an unnamed life long friend understand.

Lita Ford – Close My Eyes Forever Lyrics 15 years ago
My interpretation of this is that the guy is dead. She is talking to his ghost or maybe the part of her mind that is him. She betrayed him or something and he has committed suicide because of it. In the end, he is telling her to commit suicide if she wants to make am\mends and be with him forever.

Golden Earring – Twilight Zone Lyrics 15 years ago
I don't really interpret it as him being killed. Rather, he has killed someone through circumstances not necessarily of his own making. Whatever happened, all Hell is breaking loose and he is awaiting his fate. He knows that he may very well be snuffed, but I've always felt that he intended to put up one royal bitch of a fight whenever the hitman shows up.

Hmmm. Interesting idea that I've never considered. But what would you say the moon & star and being cloned mean?

Your interpretation is pretty much how I've always thought about this song. The cloning thing and moon and star always confused me, but your idea about the body and a foreign country are very intriguing.
