Tegan and Sara – Night Watch Lyrics 14 years ago
Yes and no. I'm happy my first instinct was correct, but I also did like "can/can't do it." However, I must admit that I never really heard a "t" at the end of the line. It almost sounded like, "So gen do-weh." xD

Tegan and Sara – Red Belt Lyrics 14 years ago
My Interpretation:

I think kneeling simply means begging.

"when you think nothing could be further from the truth
when you're sure nothing could be further from the cold, hard truth"
First, people tell Sara that the other person {P} has some really bad habits; however, she is in denial.

"I kneel, to condition all the feelings that I feel"
Sara begs {or perhaps just hopes} that P will stop their bad habits and/or that it's just not true.

"slow it down, you have a tendency to rush back into your past
slow it down, you transfer all your weight and disappear"
Then, P starts to make all these excuses, which eventually leads to her begging Sara not to leave her. In a sense, her bad self vanishes; i.e., 'Think of all the great times we've had together!' She's saying so much stuff that Sara literally has to say, 'Whoa! Slow down, and let me think for a moment.'

"I've got a red belt around my mind
my hands tied up around these words"
A belt is usually used to hold something together {or to keep pants up, but that's a different story xD}. Sara has to almost force herself to keep up her good mood in the relationship. She doesn't want it to end, and she really wants to look past P's bad habits. Therefore, she's continuously focusing on all the good things P has mentioned.

"I wish you'd call, but I know that you're out tonight
my ears fill with the sound of your kneeling
my ears fill with the sound of dissent
my ears fill with the sound of your arching
slow it down, you have a tendency to rush back into your past
slow it down, you transfer all your weight and disappear"
Just when P's bad habits surface once again {which could include canceling dates unexpectedly, lying, cheating, etc.} and Sara notices, P goes straight back to her 'Think of the good times!' spiel.

"kneel, to condition all the feelings that you feel
kneel, to condition all the feelings that you feel
kneel, to condition all the feelings that you feel
kneel, to condition all the feelings that you feel "
It's almost as though Sara now realizes that P will always have these bad habits, and the cycle will continue to occur. However, Sara does not wish to leave P.

Now, I had a feeling it was "back," but I had no idea it was "feel assured." xD

It's great to finally have someone with the lyrics booklet.

Hooray! Our first instincts were correct.

I think it makes more sense, too. "So get away. You cannot follow me."

We'll just have to wait for someone with the booklet to see if these lyrics are correct. I actually, also, thought it was "get away" instead of "can do it." x}

Do you think it might be "all around me, feeling sure that you'll be back"?

Tegan and Sara – Northshore Lyrics 14 years ago
@pony; I agree. I hear elements from their past albums, but it's still a different one. I like how they're able to do that with each new record.

Anyway, I think Tegan is basically talking about how confusing it can sometimes be after a breakup. When you look over your shoulder at someone without really turning around, you don't really get a good look at them. You have to keep switching shoulders to get different perspectives, and it never equals up to a whole "picture." It's almost as though she's saying, "Don't do anything because I have to determine what emotion I should be feeling based on how you are right now."
{Did that make sense?}

That's just my take on the song.

Also, this is a small thing, but are y'all hearing "All I dreamed up" or "All I dreamed of"?

Hm...I still hear "love" ...well, for the first time anyway. However, I'll change it since I definitely can also hear "luck."
{Like you said before, I also feel like "love" would be better for the song. xD}

Tegan and Sara – The Cure Lyrics 14 years ago
Hm. This is difficult. I definitely see where you're coming from with her saying "luck." However, I'm still hearing "love." {Well, I'm hearing both "love" and "luck." xD}
It could very well be "luck."

Anybody else: Luck or love?

Tegan and Sara – The Cure Lyrics 14 years ago
I don't know. I'm hearing "love," and I think that makes more sense with the song. She's saying that all the moments she thought were love seem so ridiculous and silly in the other person's head. Therefore, doing all of those things and saying all of those things seem silly to her {i.e., Tegan} because of that. Does that make sense?

Replace "For the" with "Based on."

For the live version and album, it's definitely what Yumi said:

"When your bed is empty, do you really sleep alone?"

It makes sense, too.

Yeah, I listened to it again, and it does sound like "a."

{Sorry about all these. I wish this thing would allow for edits.}

I think the first part of the refrain is:

"Stop crying in the ocean.
Stop crying over me.
Stop crying over nothing.
Stop crying over me."

Also, here's what I got from the first "in a flash" line:

"In a flash back to you, you saw my tension to the mass."

I'm very positive about it up until "saw...mass."

I can't remember where in the song it happens, but I honestly just think she forgot one of the lines in the song. I mean, it literally sounds like she's speaking gibberish.

This is based off of the live version found on Youtube. I realize these may not be correct, so I greatly appreciate any help in deciphering the lyrics -- especially the ones I couldn't get. I'm not too sure about the section with the ((???)) at the top and bottom.

Regina Spektor – Two Birds Lyrics 15 years ago
Although this song has such a happy beat, I get a negative feel from it. I imagine someone in a bad relationship, where the partner is controlling it. {I'll just use "he" as the controller and "she" as the other person to make it easier.} She always tells him stuff like, "C'mon! Let's go do something," and he always has some excuse like, "I wish I could, but I'm busy." Near the end of the song, she tries to get out of the relationship, but he makes her feel guilty.

"Two birds on a wire
One tries to fly away and the other
Watches him close from that wire
He says he wants to as well, but he is a liar"

I get a "Don't leave me; I'll change!" vibe from those lines.

This is just a quick comment because I don't want to repeat anything that's already been said. :}
I think this song, "Katie," and "The River" all go wonderfully together. I know the second and third songs are on the other album, but I always link the three songs together.

By "the crazies," I think she's probably referring to the people who believe that God hates everyone who is different from them -- i.e., gays, atheists, etc. Imagine Carrie White's mother.

Well, I'll give a less dramatic example than death. xD
When I hear that line, I imagine someone moving to a new city or state or even just a new neighborhood. {I'll use the neighborhood.} Barely anyone in their old neighborhood likes them. The goodbyes aren't sincere; they're rushed and almost, "Whatever; thank God your leaving!"
That's the last "sight" that person will have seen from the people of that neighborhood.

That's just my interpretation.
I hope I didn't make things even more confusing. xD

For me, each album is different from one another. That's what I really like. Frankly, I don't think I would like it if Far was like 11:11 or Soviet Kitsch or Songs or Begin to Hope. Some songs, such as "Folding Chair" are pop-y, piano-only or not.
I don't think you should judge something current by something former. ;}

Regina Spektor – Eet Lyrics 15 years ago
Also, this is a quick note. One could even say that this song reminisces on the time when the Spektor's moved to America and Regina was left without the family piano. She said she felt lost without it. It was so familiar to her, but it was suddenly "taken away."

submissions
Regina Spektor – Eet Lyrics 15 years ago
I don't think this song has any specific meaning. I think it's more about having something that's so familiar taken away from you. You feel lost without it, and it's just awkward. So, you try to get it back. For example, we can look at this lyric:

"Someone's deciding whether or not to steal."

Perhaps that man has a family, and they suddenly became broke. They're used to having a decent income, but now {let's assume} their jobs are failing.

This may seem silly, but I think the repetition of the ees/eets -- while reminiscent of Regina's style -- show the awkwardness of getting something familiar back. It's like asking, "Is this right? How about now?"
