Pink – God Is A DJ Lyrics 15 years ago
Pink is a great artist.. Songs like 'Family portrait' have the ability to make people who have felt her pain litteraly cry with her. Songs like this, which are supposed to be upbeat are, and are great to dance to. I don't really have an opinion on her technical skill.. but the emotions she wants to convey sure as hell get conveyed.

The verses help explain the chorus ... the chorus is the analogy, the verse is what this means in real life...

Pink – My Vietnam Lyrics 15 years ago
I agree with Kimface that it's mainly aimed at her mom. The song is asking what she needs to do to make her mom happy, as her mom never makes her feel like she's good enough.

(I'm going to assume the song is auto-biographical)

'This is my Vietnam
I'm at war
Life keeps on dropping bombs
And I keep score'

Pink feels like she's at war with her mom. Life keeps on 'dropping bombs' on her... and she has to try to calmly deal with it... to just keep score. (Although this score has now added up to her realising her mom is a lunatic, and writing a song about it to fight back)

'Mama was a lunatic
She liked to push my buttons
She said I wasn't good enough
But I guess I wasn't trying'

The reason for the constant fighting with her mom is that her mom always tried to annoy her, and make her angry. Nothing pink did was ever good enough for her mom, and Pink always put this down to not trying hard enough.

'Never liked school that much
They tried to teach me better
But I just wasn't hearing it
Because I thought I was already pretty clever'

The thing her mom would have nagged most about would be school- which Pink didn't try hard at because she didn't like it. School could see she was having problems, but she wasn't having any of it because she didn't think she needed their help.

'What do you expect from me?
What am I not giving you?
What could I do for you
To make me okay in your eyes? '

She's asking what she needs to do to be accepted in her crazy mother's eyes.

Now back to the beginning..

'Daddy was a soldier
He taught me about freedom
Peace and all the great things
That we take advantage of'

Her father isn't around much... he's a soldier. But one of the things he taught her was freedom. Something she doesn't have with her mom, as nothing she ever does is good enough for her mom.. she's always trying to be ok in her mom's eyes, and so doesn't feel free to just be. Another thing he taught her was peace... again, she doesn't have this with her mom, as she's always 'at war' with her. We take advantage of these great things- until we know what it's like to be without it. Her dad knows what it's like to be without it, because he's a soldier. She knows what it's like to be without it, because of her mother. But her mother takes advantage of it.

'Once I fed the homeless
I'll never forget
The look upon their faces as I
Treated them with respect'

Because she's learnt about peace and freedom and respect through her father, and the importance of having them through not having them, she's able to show it to the homeless.. she'll never forget the look on their faces... because, like her, they've never been treated with respect before either.

Garbage – Bleed Like Me Lyrics 15 years ago
Huh.. i got speedy wrong. She's addicted to the therapy... see other comments people have made on this one...

Before you call me emo or anything.. I've not been through any of these myself... but i've had friends that have been through Doodle and Avalanche's issues... and so i have spent time talking to people with those issues... and it gives you insight into it. To talk to the people who've been through, or are going through these things helps you understand them... 'Seeing their scars' helps you comprehend the BS they're going through.

Garbage – Bleed Like Me Lyrics 15 years ago
ha... this song is to you.
'try to comprehend that which you'll never comprehend
you should see my scars'

Just try... for a moment.. to understand what people who do that to themselves are going through.

Try to imagine being Avalanche. Imagine always feeling you're too fat. See yourself infront of the mirror. See every imperfection. very bulge. Every inch of fat. Imagine being more discusted with yourself every number the scale flicks past as you stand on the scales. Imagine feeling like eating is a sin. That the want for food is evil, and must be stopped. Imagine the thrill of finally seeing bones beneith your skin. Imagine feeling that is progress. Imagine wanting to be as slim as you can possibly manage... imagine wanting nothing more than to be beautiful... and that that means being thin. Try to understand it.

Think about what it's like being Chrissy. You're male. Or are you? You're getting all dressed up in your new frock. You're putting on make up. You look stunning. But boys aren't supposed to wear make up and dresses... but then you're not sure if you're suppossed to be a boy. You try to figure out what gender you are... but you just don't know. Think about what it's like to not know who you are. Think about everyone else's reaction to you as you walk past them in your makeup and dress. How would you feel?

What's Doodle's life like? She sees the glint of those glistening scissors in the light... the smooth metal.. calling to her. She's overtaken by the need to doodle. To pick up those pretty scissors and see the blood flow through her skin... The blood always looks so pretty... she can't take her eyes off the scissors. She needs to see the blood again... She craves it. The urge is to great to resist them. Imagine NEEDING to slice yourself open. Not being able to resist the pull of it. Imagine the relief flooding through you when you finaly slice into yourself. The sharp points sliding through your skin. Only being able to be calmed by blood trickling out of you. It's so pretty... you hide it beneath your pretty clothes and go on with your life. Think about what's it like to need to cut yourself.

Speedie... she's getting help. She's going to therapy. She's been through the drug usage, and knows it's no fun. She's tried to kill herself... but she's in therapy now.

At least sympathise with JT. He feels like a loser. But it's fun to get drunk.. You're everybody's friend. You don't know where you are... just some karaoke bar. But that doesn't matter. Because here... you're a star. Every drink and you're loved more.... but then where do you think this will lead him?

Try to understand it. Try to comprehend it.

Just try to comprehend that which you'll never comprehend.

Panic! at the Disco – Lying Is the Most Fun a Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off Lyrics 15 years ago
It's about a guy whose girlfriend cheated on him.

'Then think of what you did
And how I hope to God he was worth it.
When the lights are dim and your heart is racing as your fingers touch his skin.'

He's asking if it was worth it to cheat on him. He thinks she'll never have someone better than him, and she had him, until she cheated on him.

'I've got more wit, a better kiss, a hotter touch, a better fuck
Than any boy you'll ever meet, sweetie you had me
Girl I was it, look past the sweat, a better love deserving of
Exchanging body heat in the passenger seat?
No, no, no, you know it will always just be me'

He's asking her to look past the testoserone. Past the moment, at the long-run. Was this boy she cheated on him with really more worthy of having sex with her than the narrator? No. She'll always love the narrator, and she's blown it.

'Let's get these teen hearts beating. Faster, faster'- talking about the thrills of sex.. and the fear of getting caught making their hearts beat faster.

'Testosterone boys and harlequin girls'- boys controlled by their lust, and girls who are fools. He's making a general statement about boys who are only after sex, and the girls who are made to look like idiots, because they have sex with the boys. (Eg the girl the narrator was with is made to look stupid, beause she sacrificed her perfect relationship for sex with this boy who only wanted to use her for the thrill of it).

'Will you dance to this beat, and hold a lover close?'- Will you go the same root as i'm describing?

Then he talks about the guilt that comes after the cheating...

'Oh now I do recall, we were just getting to the part
Where the shock sets in, and the stomach acid finds a new way to make you get sick.'

'Now let's not get selfish' is ironic, since the girl has been selfish by having another lover.
