Slipknot – Skeptic Lyrics 9 years ago
Cheesy hook and totally against Slipknot's usual lyrical style. Reminds me of The Nameless though with the quick, accurate call and response vocals between vocalists...though not as well done.

I understand it's a tribute song, but...not Slipknot at their best, not by far..

Breaking away from religion, its hand wrapped around your heart but not your mind - learning to fuse the two together and think rationally, turning one's back on the doubt and fear that religion breeds. Seizing the moment, ceasing the torment. You wake up to uncertainty (for once the omnipotent deity reason no longer cuts it) but at least you feel alive.

KoЯn – Thoughtless Lyrics 11 years ago
You've clearly never had anything happen to you in your life if you think bullying or EVEN rape is the victim's fault. You've clearly never had to go outside your middle-class suburban male bubble and live in a third world country, never had to deal with rape or shunned as a minority or been left to die in the middle of a street while people walk past because if they stop and help they're next to disappear...see how it affects you.
Or maybe you're projecting all your issues here, and instead of manning up to your problems you're taking the pussy way out and blaming other victims instead of overcoming your own issues...which makes you worse than a pussy: a hypocrite. Get an education you illiterate moron, get some empathy you sociopath, learn something about life while you're at it you monumental, thoughtless empty husk of an individual.

Tool – Stinkfist Lyrics 11 years ago
Very simple, guys. This song is primarily about how everybody is becoming desensitised to everything. It literally says this in its lyrics. It's not about anal sex, it's not about some sort of dysfunctional relationship, though you're all welcome to relate your own experiences to the song because it frankly doesn't bother me...but the fact is, and this is what TOOL is renowned for believing in (facts)...that this song is meant to wake us up and ask us 'what is the point?' If you've seen any or all of the Zeitgeist 'documentaries', you'll understand.

Also, if you're simply perceptive enough to notice just how malleable western society really is, how easily manipulated and conditioned we are by corporate manipulation and media influence (think the hype generated around APPLE products and their ideals of planned and intrinsic obsolescence, and the values/mores fed to us by hollywood and pop/rap/rnb/hip-hop music), then the idea that this song could possibly be about something as petty as a relationship or even about sex, is simply ludicrous. The lyrics encourage us to think outside the box, and simply put, people here are not thinking outside the box. Maynard would be most disappointed...we need to keep riding the spiral, people...

Tracy Chapman – Fast Car Lyrics 12 years ago
And isn't it interesting to notice that this is exactly the same predicament the songwriter's mother seemed to be in when she left the writer's father?

"...His body's too young to look like his
My mama went off and left him
She wanted more from life than he could give
I said somebody's got to take care of him
So I quit school and that's what I did..."

It's like a cycle...generations relive their predecessors experiences. scary...

Tracy Chapman – Fast Car Lyrics 12 years ago
I find myself reacting much stronger to the imagery of the latter section of the verse you quoted.
"And your arm felt nice wrapped 'round my shoulder
I had a feeling that I belonged
I had a feeling I could be someone, be someone, be someone"
To me, that latter part sums up all the bittersweet hope and energy present in the song, and is complemented by the first 3 lines (your quotes) that serve to build-up that last three lines.
As for the chance to make it, only to lose it all...well, they say the journey is always more important than the destination...

Amazing song..but..
Can anybody say "tATu"?
Listen closely, it's quite similar to 'all the things she said'. Not excessively so, though, it's just the chorus and the bassline that sound similar.

this might be coming like 4 years too late, but the fake lesbian routine wasn't their idea, and this song is their way of expressing that >.<

They were monkeys, for entertainment, and they felt they were trapped in that trendy controversial cage their sick twisted manager had made for them.

Maybe if they weren't so unlucky back then, things would have been different, but their music still contained important messages to some extent, and the lyrics inspired and instilled confidence in (i'm sure) many people who felt disadvantaged or discriminated against.

Just sayin..

Pendulum – Crush Lyrics 13 years ago
MrDerp has the right idea ;D I was a BIG fan of Hold Your Colour, and I was shocked when i heard how much they'd changed In Silico. It was very commercial, but as they were still successful with In Silico it mustn't have been that bad an album. I guess In Silico served as a middle-ground between what they were in HYC and what they are now in Immersion; immersion is a mix of the two, and in my opinion, combines the best parts of both albums and IMPROVES on them! You can definitely hear the similarities in Immersion and HYC, and the more mainstream songs similar to their In Silico stuff sound VERY polished and the lyrics are deep and intense and VERY well sung too.

In their next effort, hopefully they bring in a few instrumental tracks with the same kind of feelings and emotions as Still Grey, Out Here and Girl in the Fire, or even something dark and gritty like The Terminal was. (No i'm not talking about the outrageous jumpy pop remix like they did with MUTINY. How dare you think that! D: Although more guitar solos like *that* would be interesting :P The ending of Mutiny was almost progressive in structure, and reminded me of Muse somewhat.

Anyway, drifting off topic there:P I wouldn't be surprised if Immersion is the album that signifies their peak. If their next effort is as good as this (OR EVEN BETTER!!!^.^), however, I will be VERY happy regardless.

LOVING THE CHANGE, PENDULUM. Keep up the magical DnB.

'Steve Wilson with Pendulum is not a combonation I saw coming' ...'everything Wilson touches turns to gold'

Uh...WTF, Kitsune_Tokkan, is that supposed to mean? it sounds like a pretty arrogant thing to say, taking a shot at Pendulum's musical talent. You don't believe anything Pendulum can produce by themselves is worthy of your praise? This song wasn't made awesome by Wilson, he just sang a couple of lines when they told him to. Pendulum did the real work in turning this ALBUM into gold.

Stick to your british prog rock mate -.-

Very similar to the way they formatted Prelude and Slam ; they're saying 'hey, this is going to be like Hold Your Colour, not like In Silico, so don't worry guys, we haven't sold out. We're going to bless your ears with this album, sit back and ENJOY.
This is a massive intro. Loving this album every day!

Pendulum – Comprachicos Lyrics 13 years ago
I thought this was very industrial...kinda gothic influenced. Marilyn Manson comes to mind especially with the first verse.

Fantastic, massive album. Miles ahead of In Silico, maybe not quite an improvement on Hold Your Colour, but they've certainly taken the best elements of both previous albums and worked HARD on them to make something entirely different and FUCKING awesome! Loving the water motif through the entire album too. This one seems to be about resisiting manipulation and having the courage to stand up for yourself as an individual. The themes aren't the most groundbreaking, but still great stuff from my favourite DnB guys.

Gonna be insane live...

No, we didn't ALL have it wrong, enguvist. You had it wrong by making the biggest noob mistake one can ever make when listening to a song...as she said, most (decent and noteworthy) songs rarely have LITERAL meanings, they're !!!open to interpretation!!! --which is what this site is for-- and everybody has their own personal reaction to the way a song is performed, and the way the song's lyrics are understood.

Giving a song only one single meaning is like staring down inside a tunnel and then declaring that the sky is only darkness...

Dead Letter Circus – The Design Lyrics 14 years ago
Yes, I wanted to enter it as it was in the booklet, BUT it is most definitely BUT. In the first chorus he only says 'It's alright' the next is really muffled, and the third chorus, before the long bridge, he pauses and then says BUT it's alright.
There are a few spelling mistakes in the booklet, but i didn't think they'd get that wrong. It was a difficult choice; choosing between what's written in the book, and what's sung in the song. Both are just as genuine as the other :S

It's done anyways ^^

Dead Letter Circus – This Is The Warning Lyrics 14 years ago
It's fallin to pieces
I stand and wait
There's no one to blame this time
Stand and brace
You sure I can't change your mind
Heal
Break
There's no one to claim the lie
Stand and face
This is the warning

As the world sleeps
Without knowing
Choose your ground
Bleed
Or start running
Take your time
Breathe
Truth is coming
Take control
Believe
Change
This is the warning

As the world sleeps without knowing
Choose your ground, lead or start running
Take your time, breathe, truth is coming
Take control, real change

They've got it all worked out
Wish I could leave here now
Is there another way
Some other path to take
We've all figured out
Same people brought them down
They are controlling you
These people lead us

I saw 'em change the truth
They didn't want us to
There right before our eyes
Broke and remade it
Don't take the easy line
We're running out of time
This is the warning

just a little correction mate.. -lyrics as shown in original album case- :P

Dead Letter Circus – Alien Lyrics 14 years ago
my favourite DLC song, easily. the melody is so flawless. Unfortunately the lyrics are so hard to interpret, and then ... trying to understand them is an even bigger challenge!

Perhaps it's about two people clashing, the persona is trying to find some sort of common ground, but they 'don't fit' and the more he tries the colder he becomes and the more pain he brings to himself. The 'why not come closer, so we don't fit so we pretend' symbolises some sort of dysfunctional repetitive cycle of abuse where they can't let go, but they pretend to make it work(?) and because the lyrics are repeated, that may reinforce the repetitive nature of the crisis.

I just love hearing his voice, hitting all those notes, and that guitar, and the bassline!... epic song. they really have their own unique sound i've never heard before. i'm thinking of parts of tool, the mars volta, and The Butterfly Effect are all in there, but they're so original. Score 1 for aussie music. DLC, keep up the amazing work! this is arty stuff!

Stereophonics – Too Many Sandwiches Lyrics 14 years ago
this is a song about how no matter how well planned something is, life will always find a way to mess things up. This is a terrible wedding, but it shows how human all the characters are, as opposed to everybody's 'PERFECT' ideal of a flawless wedding.

The small statements at the end of every verse (eg: "What a voice") are for humour: he sings with an optimistic and tongue-in-cheek view of this wedding. Even though it's all going wrong, he sees the experience as fun and rich in humanity as the chaos continues through the night. Where's the fun in everything being perfectly in order, no errors or anything?

To me, that's what the song's about: because "Life's a box of chocolates..."

T.a.t.u also have done a cover, and while Quicksand seem to have converted this 80's classic into their own typical early 90's grungy hard-rock style, t.a.t.u have tried to reproduce the original's sound in a 21st century context. with chirpy Russian accents XD but hey, they do it well.

the phenomena that is Rob Thomas in all his lyrical awesomeness.

this song ties in well with Wonderful, the previous song on the album.

OMG what's with that sitar at the end! it plays for like a quarter of a second at the end, he could have done so much more with that instrument, gone for another bar maybe, or there could even have been another short verse at the end and have the sitar accompanying it. it would be awesome to see Rob do more experimenting with different styles of music and different instruments... good stuff

this songm just like Mockingbird, is so literal, it doesn't surprise me at all to find that there aren't any comments on this.

NOBODY NEEDS TO GIVE THEIR INTERPRETATION. just read the lyrics and you will understand 100 PERCENT WHAT THIS SONG IS ABOUT.

it's so simple and plain and literal. it's a shame, when a song is so good, but the lyrics let it down, it's like a band with a bad drummer - bits and pieces of the song keep falling out of beat and getting lost :(

Rob Thomas – Fire On The Mountain Lyrics 14 years ago
this song sounds familiar. is it a cover song? i recognise some of the lines, and the guitar riff...

Serenity23 pretty much got the idea of the song.

i must add one line "where do you turn when the world moves on" may refer to some places where a natural disaster or the like has occurred, and the 'world moves on' when the event finally stops being played in the mass-media, but you're still stuck with the damage of the war/disaster/etc and you're forgotten SO, 'where do you turn to?'

this is just your average generic pop song about how relationships break down.

IF .. IF a 'good song' is one that everybody can apply their own interpretation to, then this is a pretty ordinary song lyric-wise. the music is great, and rob thomas is a legendary musician, but this really is just another everyday radio-friendly song. he's got infinitely better stuff than this.

oh, and lovemebreathless, just shut up and stop moping around about your boyfriend. there are billions of other people going through the same things, you'll get over it.

I was playing Doom 3 with this song, and when you think about it the lyrics sort of mix with the whole concept of 'hell' (even though it's an alternate dimension in the game) - how everybody (all the demons) is waiting for you, the player, to finally be one of them.

as for the rest of the lyrics, of course they're open to other, more real-world interpretations ;D

Disturbed – Facade Lyrics 14 years ago
facade means the external appearance of something.

the facade of a building can simply describe the windows/door/etc

eg: the facade of the building was totally shattered by the force of the wrecking ball.
__________________________________________________________________________
but if you put up a facade, you're hiding your true face, or what lies within.

eg: the politician's facade was impenetrable: millions of people believed he was doing the right thing for their country..

long story short, with this song, girl doesn't want to leave guy who is beating her, puts up a fake smile to try and fool people to think she's okay.

Stone Sour – Inhale Lyrics 14 years ago
i get the feeling it's a homeless person too..

also, in the chorus it sounds like (but isn't really)
'why does society even matter'

which could imply that this guy's being laughed at and patronised by society, forgotten, left behind.

but the upside to the story is the last line of the chorus:
'you've gotta try - the inhale that makes the exhale so much better'

nothing's better than breathing, and he doesn't care, he's happy as long as he's breathing.

as compared to 'normal' people, where posessions are of utmost importance.. it's saying we can laugh, but hey, he's the one who's happy in the end, embracing life for what it is: existence.
so maybe he's happy that now he's disappeared from society? he can't find his way out of the trappings of consumerist society? maybe he really wants to stay where he is on the fringe of society.

Pink – Dear Mr. President (feat. Indigo Girls) Lyrics 14 years ago
to XXXXXxxxxXgodly-whatever-the-fuck-your-name-is XxXXxx hardcore leet fucktard..

you have a lot to learn about war. it's not just 'our troops protecting our country'.
a single cruise missile costs $300,000. now, where does that money go? that money goes to the business that made that missile.

and do you think Bush pulls the money out of his own pocket? it's the PEOPLE who pay for all the big businesses that produce the oil that fuels the tanks, hummers and aircraft, the steel that reinforces the tanks, hummers and aircraft, the plastic that makes the weapons that the troops use to kill other people.

wars cost billions of dollars to maintain for extended periods of time, which is WHY there are homeless people on the street because more and more money is borrowed from the federal reserve bank to SPEND on your precious weapons and armour.

and that money has to be paid back, doesn't it. that's where WE the people come in. so you sit there and tell us to have some respect, while these big businesses and Bush himself are laughing all the way to the bank, saying that this is a war on TERROR. TERROR TERROR TERROR TERROR TERROR EVIL TERRORISTS TERRORIST TERROR TERRORISTS. the word is DRILLED into the people's heads until all of a sudden out of the womb of lies and deceit OUT POPS ugly fucked up sheep like YOU who think the war is good, that the war is helping us, that the EVIL TERRORISTS AND THE WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION are gonna be wiped out and we'll be safe.

while we lose our jobs, lose our homes, lose everything, and trillions of our dollars simply get pumped back into the big companies that simply LOVE to try and make a war last AS LONG AS POSSIBLE to get as much money out of it as possible. it's all for their own wealth. but you're obviously too far gone, i'm sorry for the loss of your soul.

Stereophonics – Billy Davey's Daughter Lyrics 14 years ago
maybe it's about his famous daughter 'throwing herself to dirty waters' as in, maybe heading down a bad path such as the pornography industry, and the bridge could be a sort of moral divider between us and the people who sacrifice their dignity to become adult entertainers. she used the bridge again and again, maybe that means that she regularly lived 2 separate lives - one as a famous, respectable person - the other as a prostitute or erotic actress...

and of course word gets around, and her father finds out, and now he's left with just a dream of all that she could have been...

any way you look at it though, the lyrics are so sad. hats off to the stereophonics for a good finish to their (first?) album. good stuff.

another very interesting thing to point out: the album is actually called 'WORD GETS AROUND' . . .

go the cello!!!

what a mesmerising performance. the lyrics are simple, but they describe me perfectly. just yesterday i had a friend come to me with his world crashing down. my media player was on shuffle and this song came on and i had a bit of a laugh. i was told that all OneRepublic songs have 'religious meanings' (what? as if they can't have any other interpretations?) meanings and interpretations are two COMPLETELY different things. interpretation implies opinion, while meaning implies FACT.

oh, and after having said all that, angela shut up you blind sheep. so you can twist words around to make the song about God, that just drives me nuts.
god doesn't love your aching bones. he loves you if you're heterosexual, white, rich and you donate lots of money.

OneRepublic – Tyrant Lyrics 14 years ago
well you know what, i think this song is ABOUT religion.

Youve got my trust, and it feels, and it feels
Like sabotage, but I'm pulling triggers back on myself
And you know it is all
All I know, (it's) all I know

the religion is luring him in with the answers that he wants, that aren't truthful (your shadow cooking up beautiful lies for you) but the religion has his trust so he *believes* it is true - the shadow symbolising the God that doesn't exist - it's just a shadow.

And while it feels like somebody is sabotaging his mind, he realises that as he studies his religion, he's the one doing the damage (pulling triggers on himself)

now, the chorus:
And it feels so real from the outside looking in
Yeah, it feels so real from the outside
The religion appears real to an outsider looking in, unaware of all the contradictions, discriminations and inequalities preached in it - taking the religion at face value: essentially, 'some big guy in the sky who loves you' without having learned the fine details of the religion, it seems harmless, and so real, like there could be no other way

"I'll stay with apathy
I'm blind but I can see
A tyrant to the bones"

- he's in the process of truly discovering himself, he's been blinded by his religious studies, but he isn't completely blind as his mind matures, he realises that he can still see, and he sees the God as a tyrant to the core.

it's a song about self-discovery. seriously. you people who think it's pro-christian are only looking at half the song - the face value of it.

but if you guys don't like that interpretation, dont like the way it reveals your insecurities, just ignore me, and stay blind...
