Radiohead – Codex Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I think you nailed it. The whole album flows together, and the mood and everything seems to fit this perfectly. |
Jon Anderson – The Sacred Stones Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Update: This is from the liner notes for the album. "In the middle-ages, the trope was a kind of musical commentary on sacred writings. The Sacred Stones is Jon Anderson's commentary on that moment within The Silmarillion when the Valar had brought Morgoth, the dark lord, to justice and recovered the most sacred of jewels, the Silmarils. While sacred, the stones where also cursed. They always brought madness and death to those who sought them. Even to name them was to awaken some hidden evil." |
maudlin of the Well – Birth Pains of Astral Projection Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Possibly one of the greatest songs ever written... so beautiful. |
Kayo Dot – A Pitcher of Summer Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I don't understand how some people can hear such a beautiful work of art then demand to know plainly what it means. Anyways, these lyrics evoke incredible imagery. Don't try to belittle the meaning by focusing on what it means to you, but instead what it MEANS. |
The Beatles – Wild Honey Pie Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This could totally be a track from the Residents' 1973 album, Meet the Residents. |
TransAtlantic – My New World Lyrics | 13 years ago |
About the loss of innocence and growing up to see everything differently. |
TransAtlantic – All of the Above: Full Moon Rising/October Lyrics | 13 years ago |
hmmmm... I'd have to say this is their weakest epic IMO |
Jon Anderson – The Sacred Stones Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This has to be one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. I think its describing the Silmarils, but not everything makes complete sense. The part: "As no one talked, no one else could know the thought that day- the stolen promises that thundered through the dark sky. The Scared Stones had been hidden 700 years, and now the spell had been broken. They say that thousands or millions they had walked the earth. They traveled East in the greatest known migration. The Sacred Stones had been diamonds cascading from the sky to forge these words here now spoken..." seems to fit with this I found from the lotr wiki: "At some time early in the Second Age, Celeborn and Galadriel are said to have moved eastward into Eriador with a number of Elves in their following. They may have lived for a while near Lake Evendim. Their daughter Celebrian may have been born during this time. They began to move eastward again around the year SA 700 of the Second Age because Galadriel sensed a growing evil in Middle-earth that she felt duty-bound to oppose." As for the rest of it, it's pretty universal. |
Neutral Milk Hotel – Ghost Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Incredible song. "And one day in New York City, baby A girl fell from the sky From the top of a burning apartment building Fourteen stories high And when her spirit left her body How it split the sun I know that she will live forever All goes on and on" gives me chills every time. I found this album yesterday and I've listened to it at least 4 times. It just keeps getting better. |
Theocracy – A Tower of Ashes Lyrics | 13 years ago |
The meaning is pretty self explanatory, but I love the imagery in it. The lyrics are so true. |
Theocracy – Mirror of Souls Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Matt Smith is an amazing songwriter. Theocracy rocks. |
Blind Guardian – Time Stands Still (At the Iron Hill) Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This has to be one of my favorite parts in the Silmarillion. It's simply breathtaking to read. Freaking awesome song too. |
Saviour Machine – Jesus Christ Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Well said, friend. That interpretation lines up perfectly. |
Kamelot – Across the Highlands Lyrics | 13 years ago |
To me, "but I am damned if life itself is condemnation" Is talking about Christianity and "all my life I've been trying to die reach complete segregation I am ready to open my eyes to a new revelation" Is talking about Buddhism. He's searching for Truth |
Kamelot – The Spell Lyrics | 13 years ago |
awesome song. i think it's pretty straight forward. |
Death Cab for Cutie – Different Names for the Same Thing Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Perhaps it's about depression. Every where you go is the same: people will let you down and hurt you. "The coast disappeared when the sea drowned the sun" He ends up drowning himself out of his depression. |
The Beatles – Carry That Weight Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Then what were they? |
Beardfish – Sleeping In Traffic Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Well the lyrics seem to be vaguely about going insane or, in other words, feeling out of place in the world. I cant find much of a pattern though. |
Beardfish – South Of The Border Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I think this song is hilarious. cool album |
Yes – Close to the Edge Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think that you have to reach the meaning of the lyrics yourself, otherwise it will seem rather nonsensical. This is beauty. |
TransAtlantic – XII. Dancing With Eternal Glory / Whirlwind Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Through the troubles, the shit, the temptations, there is still life. I believe the breath of life is from The Lord Jesus. He makes himself known and teaches us through our whirlwinds. |
TransAtlantic – XII. Dancing With Eternal Glory / Whirlwind Lyrics | 14 years ago |
unbelievable song... FROM THE WHIRLWIND COMES THE BREATH OF LIFE!! |
Neal Morse – The Door Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Does anyone else hear Tommy by the Who at 9:44 and Watcher of the Skies by Genesis at 24:57? Anyways, this 30-minute epic is incredible. The climax solo is majestic. |
Genesis – The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway Lyrics | 14 years ago |
http://www.genesismuseum.com/thebirthofthelamb.htm you've probably never thought about The Lamb this way, and it's extremely fascinating. |
Genesis – Stagnation Lyrics | 14 years ago |
the nuclear war survivor meaning seems correct. beautiful song |
Dream Theater – Solitary Shell Lyrics | 14 years ago |
this is a personal favorite dream theater song |
Dream Theater – Goodnight Kiss Lyrics | 14 years ago |
absolutely amazing solo |
Blind Guardian – Noldor (Dead Winter Reigns) Lyrics | 14 years ago |
lol nice bro |
Tool – Aenema Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I dont think it's about the apocalypse. I think this song deals with a much more day to day level of life in America. It shows how fucked up the mindset of nearly everyone is. |
Van Der Graaf Generator – House With No Door Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This song is really beautiful in a sad way... |
Van Der Graaf Generator – Arrow Lyrics | 14 years ago |
mind-numbingly chilling. probably my favorite van der graaf song. |
Dream Theater – Sacrificed Sons Lyrics | 14 years ago |
yeah man i agree about Rudess. It really does take away from quite a few songs. |
Jethro Tull – Up To Me Lyrics | 14 years ago |
It has no connection, but I noticed that "cinema" and "Wimpy" were used in the same sentence and i thought of Selling England by Genesis.... anyways, excellent album. |
Genesis – Can-Utility and the Coastliners Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Very beautiful song. Does anyone know how the tittle connects with the story? |
Rush – 2112 Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I love Genesis, Dream Theater, Jethro Tull, etc, but I've never been able to fully appreciate Rush. Most of their work feels too mechanical to me. This song however, is quite amazing. My favorite line- "There's something here as strong as life", sends shivers up my spine every time. |
Genesis – Dusk Lyrics | 15 years ago |
a very beautiful song. Does anyone know who wrote it? |
Genesis – Seven Stones Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Could Tinker be a name? Anyways, what I gather from this brilliant song is that life is unpredictable, seemingly by chance, but it will work out in the end. In the first verse, it seems that the man is going through a rough time in his life, a "storm". He takes a walk and sits under a tree to think about his life. When he clears away the leaves, there are 7 stones. Thinking something like "what have I to lose?", he goes to the 7th house where he lives and meets a friend to help him through his problems. The old man is possibly the captain in verse 2. He sees a seagull and follows it, not knowing that he narrowly avoids crashing. In verse 3, the old man has learned that life should not be taken so seriously, but at the same time, it should not be taken too lightly. In verse 4 a young farmer comes to the old man, assuming the old man can help him with farming. Before seeing if the old man really knows anything, he gives him money. The old man smiles and walks away. |
Rich Mullins – We are not as Strong as We Think We Are Lyrics | 15 years ago |
We are frail, we are fearfully and wonderfully made Forged in the fires of human passion Choking on the fumes of selfish rage And with these our hells and our heavens So few inches apart We must be awfully small And not as strong as we think we are i love this song so much |
Yes – Roundabout Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Smoke on the Water was inspired by a fire that burned down a studio that Deep Purple was scheduled to record in. They thought their chance for success was gone but wrote Smoke on the Water, which nearly everyone knows... anyways this song is amazing |
Dream Theater – Metropolis, Pt. 1: "The Miracle and the Sleeper" Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This is probably my favorite dream theater song. And thats saying something since i could probably sing along (or try to sing) with almost every song by them. It compels such strong emotions inside the listener that you can't help but stop what your doing and focus completely on the music. In my opinion, it is absolutely perfect. |
Slipknot – Dead Memories Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Like many of their songs, the main message seems to be "whats the point to living?". The line "we were never alive, and we won’t be born again" is just a way of saying this is all we've got. We were never alive (no previous life i.e. Budhism) and won't be born again (they don't believe in a heaven like in Christianity). good song though |
Dream Theater – Misunderstood Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"he's not turning from a thief to a beggar", but as someone said at the top, "Jesus was crucified in between a thief and a beggar....so he could literally "turn" from a theif to a beggar" it could be emphasizing the fact that Jesus was not just a cold, emotionless being. He was 100% human too. |
Dream Theater – Blind Faith Lyrics | 15 years ago |
It could be about the "American Dream". Many people quite literally worship money, or wealth. |
