@[Hatesolstice127:8137] Yeah, people's interpretations are always a reflection of themselves. Usually the intended meaning is very simple.

I don't like to read heroin into every one of Kurt's drug lyrics, but I'm pretty sure this, and Pennyroyal Tea, are definitely about heroin addiction. It captures the opiate experience extremely well.

Nirvana – Come As You Are Lyrics 8 years ago
Pretty sure it's about how we claim to love others for who they are, but really we want them to conform to our expectations. Basically "Sure, be free, be who you are, do whatever you want...but just first...." - Rarely do we truly accept someone unconditionally. Yet, when there is an argument, when our expectation contradicts their freedom, we get angry, but then swear there is no malicious intent.

Mötley Crüe – Wild Side Lyrics 12 years ago
Very sad song. It's a nice headbanging, rock n roll tune, but it's very deep. If you've lived that life, seen that life, and took a ride on the wild side, it is tragic. Alot of people now a days, especially kids, think it's cool to do drugs, sell drugs, and pretend to be a bad boy, but let me tell you it only leads you down. Jail, drug addiction, broken homes, gangs and murder, it's all very real, and sometimes we can lose sight of God. We make our choices, and we have to live with them, and the wild side is glamorized, but it's really hell. I took a ride on the wild side, and will probably take many more, and a day is pain on the wild side.

Tragic life on the wild side.

Leonard Cohen – The Stranger Song Lyrics 13 years ago
You guys have every good analysis's of this song, but it's song which is based on the movie
"Man with the Golden Arm" starring Frank Sinatra. He even references the movie's title in the song.
Go ahead and watch it, you'll see the parallels.

Beautiful movie, absolutely brilliant.

The Tragically Hip – Now The Struggle Has A Name Lyrics 13 years ago
This truly is a beautiful song, and I'm kind of surprised nobodies commented on it. Maybe nobody will see this, but I hope that they do.

This song is about a conflict between a man and his lover Honey Watson. They want to love each other, but just cannot do it. They don't feel it; instead they feel anger and disdain towards one another. They try to overcome conflicts and obstacles, but everytime they're overcome they still feel the same as before. They have their good times and bad, but still struggle. They look for conflict so they can have something to blame their problems on. It continues over and over like a continuous cycle.

Sublime – Same In The End Lyrics 13 years ago
This is Bradly playing around with words. Every line has a meaning of its own and doesn't relate to the song as a whole. It deals with a number of issues: trying to be a man, running from the truth, father problems, STDs, relationship problems, trying to be someone you're not, mass consumerism, etc. In the grand scheme of things, it never really matters because it's all the same in the end and we all end up in the same place.

Dire Straits – Sultans Of Swing Lyrics 13 years ago
This is a great song which captures what music is all about. It doesn't matter what your position is, or the wins and losses; all that matters is playing the music and feeling the soul of the song. It's not about fancy guitars, record deals, insane soloing, pleasin' the ladies; it's about feeling the music and playing with heart and soul.

Nirvana – All Apologies Lyrics 13 years ago
Simple song. It's about stigmatization.

"what else should I be? - All apologies"
"what else could I write - I don't have the right"
"what else should I say? - Everyone is gay"

It's about being stigmatized for being politically incorrect (notice the irony?). What you do is who you are, all you can do is apologize if somebody disagrees with you.

The last verse is just gibberish. Don't try to relate it to drugs or courtney; it's just kurt jotting down some rhymes.

Remember, if anybody happens to see this: Kurt was just an average guy. He wrote some good poetry, yeah, but he never intended it to be some really deep and mystical shit; he just wrote his thoughts on certain topics. God I love how people get obsessive over Kurt, what he did and what thought - he was just an average guy. You know that asshole you see across the street who you don't give two shits about? Well that was kurt before he got big! And he killed himself for that very reason. They treat him like a God when he's just some average guy, and he didn't want to be some MTV God. You get it?

There I said my fucking peice

Blink-182 – Adam's Song Lyrics 13 years ago
There seems to be a lot of confusion, spam, arguing over what this song is about. It's very straight forward. The song is about a teenager who is going through depression and is contemplating suicide. It's not about suicide or overcoming it, but it touches on the thoughts that enters someone's head while contemplating suicide. I'm sure when you've contemplated suicide (and I know you have) you have thought about

- How you're going to commit suicide
- Feeling like the pain outweighs the resources to cope with the pain
- Feeling like there's no way people would expect you to do such a thing
- Remembering the good times
- Thinking people will forget about you
- Who will receive your stuff after you die
- Upsetting parents in a petty way
- Ensuring it wasn't the fault of your parents

and of course, my personal favorite, overcoming the moment and thinking "tomorrow will hold such better days"

The song touches on all of these thoughts, and that's why it's a powerful and memorable song; we've all thought the thoughts that Blink is singing about. It is a sad song, but one that gives hope as well. I will remember this song for most of my life and whenever I hear it my spine tingles (every time).

Serj Tankian – Empty Walls Lyrics 13 years ago
This song is very straightforward. When he says "I want you to see from behind those empty walls" he means that the information is there, but we chose not to see it. It's like the Armenian Genocide. It is there, and there is information about it, but we chose not to look. Either because we're afraid of how terrifying the world really is, or where too caught up in ourselves too care; dying of anticipation and chocking on intoxication...

Bob Marley and the Wailers – Zimbabwe Lyrics 13 years ago
I think what Bob is trying to say in this song is that we have to fight for everything we do, if it really means something to us. It's about actually overcoming the struggle, the struggle itself is trivial but it has to be overcome. When he says "and soon we'll find out who are the real revolutionaries cause I don't want my people to be contrary" he means we need to actually overcome the problem, not simply discuss it, but overcome it. If there is no attempt to overcome the struggle, and yet people complain then it's a contradiction.

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Wet Sand Lyrics 13 years ago
This might have already been said before, but for the wet sand bit, it's quite simple.

"you don't form in the wet sand, I do"

He's talking about how we never seem to remember, nor care about the mistakes, achievements, problems, or anything that people have done; yet, we always seem to remember our own and hold it in high significance.

Tool – Rosetta Stoned Lyrics 13 years ago
This songs about a guy who took too many drugs and was trying to get the ``best high``. Whether he was trying to learn something or not; the DMT took him over, and so did the blotters (hence ``lost keys blame Hoffman``). He got what he was looking for but he was so fucked up he couldn`t remember it. This song is extremely satirical. ``Like the time dave floated away`` is when you`re high, you don`t really think about what you`re seeing but rather think about how fucked up you are ``will I ever be coming down? this is so real`` He likes it, but he doesn`t want it to end (like all drug users).

I think what TOOL is trying to say that people take the wrong drugs for the wrong reasons. Drugs can reveal things to us (of course, especially tryptamines and dissociatives) but most of the time, the users tend to overlook what can be learned and use the drugs irresponsibly and to get ``fucked up``.

The Tragically Hip – Blow At High Dough Lyrics 13 years ago
Ok people, let`s not get patriotic here...

This song is about materialism and spending as much as you can, as fast as you can.

sometimes the faster it gets
the less you need to know
but you gotta remember
the smarter it gets
the further its gonna go
when you blow at high dough

Gord`s talking about how people will blow their whole check on shit they don`t need, while the ones who put their education to use get more money and therefore spend more.

well I ain't no movie star
but I can get behind anything
yeah I can get behind anything

Not everybodies a movie star, but everybody wants to have all the money and stuff that movie stars do. If they see a movie star advertise some product, they`ll go out and buy it.
