Sufjan Stevens – I Walked Lyrics | 13 years ago |
so different from all delighted people! I'm loving it! |
Florence + the Machine – Bird Song Lyrics | 13 years ago |
yeah, that's exactly what I think. |
The Antlers – Wake Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I had an extremely similar experience about a year and a half ago, and this song touches me the same way. when he says "the hardest part is never to repent for someone else, it's letting people in" I feel it's like "although taking the blame is really hard, the worst part is that letting them in and then being used," and really, that is the hardest part. |
David Bowie – Rock 'n' Roll Suicide Lyrics | 14 years ago |
sarcasm detectors, GO! no, but really. come on, people. |
Jonathan Coulton – Skullcrusher Mountain Lyrics | 14 years ago |
this song is brilliant. the meaning is pretty obvious, and that's what's so great about it... I practically melt when he says "you like monkeys, you like ponies" :) |
Sufjan Stevens – Chicago Lyrics | 14 years ago |
"Take it easy." amen, brotha/sista. |
Sufjan Stevens – Chicago Lyrics | 14 years ago |
chowderhead. I like that. |
Sufjan Stevens – For the Widows in Paradise, for the Fatherless in Ypsilanti Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I'm minnesotan, too. can't wait :) |
Sufjan Stevens – John Wayne Gacy, Jr. Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I've definitely rewinded the song just to hear that again... wow. |
Grouper – Heavy Water/I'd Rather Be Sleeping Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I second that: shivers. |
Smog – Held Lyrics | 14 years ago |
beautiful imagery. beautiful message. |
The Beta Band – Dry the Rain Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This is possibly the best song I have ever heard. The first lines and then this part: If there's something inside that you wanna say Say it out loud it'll be ok I will be your light I will be alright god, they make me melt. |
of Montreal – Wraith Pinned to the Mist (And Other Games) Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I heard "let's pretend we're in an autocar" (: |
Kimya Dawson – Anthrax Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think knock_knock_who is completely right in that the song is about 9/11, but I also think that Kimya's using 9/11 as a metaphor for life with depression and getting through it with a friend. if you fall in i'll jump down and touch your face while we're both sinking (stinking thinking) we won't drown you are my friend and what we're doing's too important for our lives to end quite yet I think this part is about depression or a different mental disorder. "Stinking thinking" is a term used by this famous therapist (Marsha Linehan), and it's basically all these kinds of distorted thinking that people with mental disorders have. It's totally possible that Kimya could have heard the term, since tons of therapists across the country/world have adapted Linehan's methods. So, I think Kimya and her friend both suffer from depression or something and she's saying basically they can get through it together and they both have to keep living because their work is too important. But I think it's also meant more in the literal, as she and her friend fall in the twin towers, like knock_knock_who said--like I said before, I think she's using 9/11 as a metaphor. this is just a test take it with love and you will pass you will be rewarded if you do your very best nothing ever goes as planned so don't take anything for granted if you do the world will kick your ass Here she's saying that life is a test and you'll be rewarded (either during your life, like karma, or perhaps in an afterlife) if you are loving and thankful in your life and "do your very best." So I think the song is basically saying "life is hard, and we can get through it together, because if we do we'll be rewarded." It's probable that Kimya didn't intend for any of that (especially the "stinking thinking") to mean what I got out of it, but that's what this song means to me. (: |
Regina Spektor – Hotel Song Lyrics | 15 years ago |
to me, this song is from the perspective of a young prostitute... she's living a nightmare (I have dreams of orca whales and owls/but I wake up in fear) and is wondering how she got there. brilllllliant song! |
Ramones – Blitzkrieg Bop Lyrics | 15 years ago |
hahaha. thank you, clovus, this discussion was needing someone like you xD |
Superchick – Suddenly Lyrics | 15 years ago |
pretty straight forward... fantastic song. "treading water just to keep from slipping under" love that line. |
Superchick – Hold Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I hadn't listened to superchick in ages, and this just popped up on itunes shuffle... verrry powerful song. love it! |
Foo Fighters – Razor Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think most of the interpretations here are really interesting and possible, and I don't listen to the foo fighters much... But I was wondering, someone who is looking at it as a song about self-harm... What do you think he's saying ABOUT self-harm? I have a glimpse of the meaning, but I'd love to hear others' thoughts on it... So, thoughts about these lyrics specifically would be great: "Wake up it's time Need to find a better place to hide Make up, your mind I need to know I need to know tonight" |
Death Cab for Cutie – Passenger Seat Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I just got this song seven hours ago, and already it is the third most played song on itunes... granted, that's only 16 times, but still. I just can't stop listening to it... It has so much emotion in under four minutes. |
Jack Johnson – Belle Lyrics | 15 years ago |
also, the romance languages are so similar that with different dialects, etc, it's entirely possible that a couple lines could be translated from more than one language. |
Jack Johnson – Belle Lyrics | 15 years ago |
fantastic song (: |
of Montreal – Heimdalsgate Like a Promethean Curse Lyrics | 15 years ago |
come on mood shift, shift back to good again. |
Ingrid Michaelson – Be OK Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"a gallery of broken hearts" "let me hold my broken parts" such subtle, poetic genius (: |
of Montreal – Gronlandic Edit Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I totally agree with hibiscus10moon--I thought of Anne Frank, too, but I think it may be unintentional and Th0rn--I thought of anti-depressants when I heard "erasing myself," too. |
Ingrid Michaelson – Lady in Spain Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I posted this as a reply, but it was supposed to be a comment... still not used to the new layout (; I saw Ingrid live last night (she was AMAZING and hilarious and adorable and charismatic and better than I could've imagined, but that's not the point of this post) ANYWAY, before this song she said to imagine being a little girl who can't sleep because she doesn't know what she wants to be when she grows up, and she's worried she won't become anything good... basically she's stressing out, and then a fairy flies in, closes the girls eyes and as the girl sleeps she hears these words... Similar to what WittyWitch said, and I haven't seen the YouTube video, but just thought I'd put in my two cents (: |
