Bloc Party – Truth Lyrics 11 years ago
agreed, and this one is aptly titled because their loves songs always feel so honest. If "Sunday" didn't have so many personal memories associated with it, "Truth" would be my favorite love song they've done.

The Drums – Book of Stories Lyrics 11 years ago
I like ikickledagirl's version better because I was in the same boat about this time last year, and while your version is also a good one, and valid, I'm hitting all the literal strides as the songs author.

felt stuck in a relationship - going out dancing was one of those things we did often, but later on I just loathed the moment because I had to force myself to pretend I'm enjoying myself, but it's so obvious that she notices but doesn't say anything - just lets it eat away at her/us. Next thing I know we split up and it feels like "finally!" until you're back in that scene and still can't have fun thinking maybe you fucked up - not because you really loved her but because it was easier being bored and with someone than miserable and all alone. Misery loves company i guess..?

Blink-182 – When I Was Young Lyrics 11 years ago
Great tune! The chorus pretty much sums it all, no matter how shitty you may feel, it doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things.

Blink-182 – Pretty Little Girl Lyrics 11 years ago
Tom really paints a vivid picture with this song, his vocals make the song IMO. Anyway to me it feels like a tale of young love growing in to true love; a young couple discovering each other before they truly know themselves, feeling like it could last forever and realizing it takes hard work and both would need to work to make it last, because together they can make it worth it.

Angels and Airwaves – My Heroine (It's Not Over) Lyrics 12 years ago
Does anyone else get the feeling this song is about a very intimate night? Like maybe those last nights before going on tour, his wife showing him the night of his life?

Just saying...

Chromeo – Waiting 4 U Lyrics 12 years ago
First half of the song, coupled with the feel of the music, would make you think it's about simply wanting someone; eyeing them from across the room at a party or a club, waiting for that moment to pounce and make her yours..

Then the last verse shows the doubt and fear of acting on your feelings, revealing the song is about waiting for the other party to make a move instead of facing rejection.

Blink-182 – Up All Night Lyrics 12 years ago
Booo they chose your lyrics over mine! Oh well, I was missing like four words I just couldn't decipher, kudos!

As for the meaning, I'm going to agree with PurpleDee as it was close to what I had in mind for this as well. Tom seems to be singing about positives in life while Marks sings about negatives in the versus, and the chorus seems to state that no matter what side of the fence you're on, everyone has their demons (obviously) as well as their differences, but you shouldn't let that fault you because we can all get through it together ("lets get this straight, do you want me here?"). That's just me though.

Am I the only one that thinks rap "beef" is stupid no matter what type of sub-genre? Maybe I'm over-reacting but that mc chris slam killed another wise lyrically intellectual song.

(+44) – Cliff Diving Lyrics 14 years ago
GREAT post (one of the few on this site..) and I completely agree with your take on the song. It's about living in the moment and taking chances no matter what the risk or reward.

Also, I don't believe anyone has mentioned this yet but I personally believe that the opening line in the song, mainly the phrase "silly girl" is a reference to the Descendents song of the same name. Mark, Tom & Travis have all gone on record saying that the Descendents are one of their fave bands and influences. As Blink, they've actually recorded a cover of their song "Hope" and have played it live before. Also, when I got to see +44 live, they covered another descendents song "christmas vacation" that i believe also appears on a compilation somewhere..

Val Emmich – Hurt More Later Lyrics 14 years ago
I think its a little more than what the person above me posted..

The chorus makes me think it's about ending a relationship early because you're afraid of getting hurt; you've been in a good relationship that fell apart or got stale, you can't bare to do it again so you go off, fall in love too soon but leave before you become too vulnerable.

Val Emmich – Get On With It Lyrics 14 years ago
Agree with the post above me, but i also believe this song is about taking chances.

The lyric "either you live your life or you sit witness" sums it up perfectly.

The funny part is it IS adults that spout out this crap trying to relate to kids; just look at CNN using twitter or the rise of 30+ adults getting in to text messaging after their kids show them how.

Not gonna lie, heard this song for the first time watching (500) Days of Summer (awesome movie, go see it) and fell in love with it. Does anyone else think it sounds a lot like Angels & Airwaves (the intro does at least)?

I think this song is about not only living for the moment, but sharing it with someone else.

Bloc Party – The Present Lyrics 15 years ago
There are parts of this song that remind me of The Cure's "Scared as you" with the way Kele sings it..

other than that, nothing to add here. Meaning is easy to pick up from the lyrics and its a GREAT tune.

Bloc Party – Your Visits Are Getting Shorter Lyrics 15 years ago
Hm i never concentrated on that line until now. Sometimes its easier for me to actually see a lyric and try to figure out its meaning than just listening to it.. the part about the trigger always stuck out more than the part after it, even if it is a bit cliche.

now i may be off on this, but its my interpretation of it:

"You're pulling the trigger, and the gun is in my mouth
A subtle annoyance, laced with disgust"

I think he's trying to say here that the person he is with (and losing) just puts him down a lot and it obviously gets to him. What i like about my interpretation is how "putting him down" can also mean shooting someone/thing ("had to put the ol' dog down") which works with the "pulling the trigger" line. But thats besides the point.

It's made clear by the following line "I can never hate you" that the singer is in love with the girl, even if he knows its not right for him. Anyone who has been in love with someone who wasn't right for them will understand the line "A subtle annoyance, laced with disgust". You might do or say something that slightly annoys the person thats wrong for you, and they have this ability to express that annoyance in such a way that hurts more than it should. Thats how i feel about that line, and yeah i've been there. You get put down enough like that, and it really does feel like they might as well pull the trigger on you.

But hey, thats just my interpretation.

Hellogoodbye – I Saw It On Your Keyboard Lyrics 15 years ago
I never noticed until I read the replies above yours. Maybe YOU don't get that it might be the point?

The writer obviously wrote this for someone he has feelings for, in order to woo her. Isn't it just fitting that joy is what he feels in her pressence, hence the sampling? Hell maybe she's into classical music and likes Ode To Joy as one of her favorite peices.

Now I'm not trying to give this band too much credit, but you never know. Some people like to hide things in their music that might not be easy to find meaning in from an outsiders perspective.

Box Car Racer – Dance With Me (The Sex Song) Lyrics 15 years ago
I came to post something I just realized about this song and the comments here really threw me off..

You think this song is about missing a girl? And how can the music "sound emo"?? That doesn't make any sense, strong EMO(tional) lyrics are what make Emo what it is.. well whiny lyrics make up todays emo but that's besides the point. Sounds can't be emo in the way you used it buddy..

I'm susrprised no ones come to a more logical conclusion about the songs meaning. Its about sex, yes, but the underlying meaning behind it is one of two things (or both even).

1. Premature ejaculation
2. Raw intense sex

Knowing Toms humour I wouldn't be surprised if it was a seld deprivating song about thinking you're a stud in bed and coming early. See: "lay down and take it in....what do I do write now? Give up and let it go" But.. since This was Toms serious side, the second meaning it has also makes sense.

Its about this intense sexual encounter and being so overwhelmed by it that you just lose yourself in it. You talk yourself up in your head but when you actually get to the sex you have no idea what you're doin, so you gotta let go of your thoughts and just let instinct take over.
Either meaning is pretty easy to come to so I question how many commenters here had sex before making their post here.. hehe

Oh, before I forget: I noticed that the intro/main riff sound very similar to "Feeling this" by Blink. That song is also about sex (Toms part anyway) and both are made up of a repeated guitar riff for the majority of the song. This is basically an early demo for "Feeling This", .

Blink-182 – A Letter to Elise (The Cure cover) Lyrics 15 years ago
Agreed, but good thing they're back together and i have high hopes they'll top their last album.

Has anyone seen the video of this on the Tribute to the Cure? I hate how marilyn manson sounds so apathetic about blink performing the song, yet robert seems enthralled by this cover, yet when the deftones come out to do "if only tonight we could sleep" marilyn manson announces them like they're God, yet Robert looks unimpressed lol Anyway thats besides the point.

the song is about falling out of love with someone you thought you'd be with forever. because of it, its heart breaking on an entirely different level then your usual "break-up" song. It's also about not being able to hold on to a moment. Its an incredible song, either version you listen to.

I'm impressed Blink was able to handle the cover, not because they're not great musicians (which they are!) but this is one of The Cure's really BIG songs, by which i mean very layered in sound; multiple guitars, synths/keys, etc. To be able to pull it off as a trio, and actually make it sound good with a stripped down sound, speaks volumes about how well Blink makes music. Its a faithful cover, yet holds true to Blinks own style and for that it deserves to be listed as one of their songs, because they really made it their own.

here's hoping for more cure covers and cure collaberations!

Blink-182 – Reckless Abandon Lyrics 15 years ago
no need to apologize, i didn't mean to be so harsh! i was feeling obnoxious that day hehe

i dont think its mark, i've heard rumours its travis but everyone knows he's a mute (lol) and everyone else claims its one of the albums producers.

i don't think i ever said anything about the middle of the song though, so i agree; there's nothing there.

Tenacious D – The Metal Lyrics 15 years ago
It's funny, i was talking about this song with a friend and he had the same thoughts as the majority of comments here; "metal RULES" etc etc.

yet me, as someone who enjoys all types of music, see's the meaning behind this song as simple too, just different then the rest. I see it as a satire on the genre, a satire on the fans that have this closed minded view on music.

I mean the band is a "fake" band after all, a comedy duo writing comedic songs anyway, so its simple to see where the whole premise of this song comes off as a joke.

The funny thing is, in MY opinion anyway, the joke is on all the people that view this song as an anthem, or think music is some sort of competition and that metal is king. Just because you don't like a genre of music doesn't make it inferior.

Even the music itself is a parody. The main riff is so generic and simple, its like the first metal riff anyone whose ever held a guitar comes with (me included) and then to go from the thrashing distorted chords to the melodic clean arpeggios.. it's just poking fun at how metal isn't always very well structured and just takes itself so serious.

All in all, another hilarious tune from The D

MC Lars – Signing Emo Lyrics 15 years ago
I'm surprised no ones come out and said it for those that DON'T know. The song being "sampled" in the chorus is an original tune by MC Lars under the guise of a fake emo band called "Hearts That Hate,"
which is a spoof of acts like Fall Out Boy.

He has an acoustic version of the song 'cry tonight' on one of his EPs as well as having (not sure if its up) a website for the fake band that documents their rise to stardom in the emo world and their change to industrial music, as depicted in "signing emo," the MC Lars song that chronicles this fake band.

""by The_St._Jimmy on 03-04-2008 @ 10:12:12 PM
and those who think they hear something at the beginning of the song, it's the last held note from "roller coaster," the song before this one on the album. ""

Actually there is some speaking at the beginning of the song.

-Listen to the song with earphones.

-take out your LEFT earphone (if you're using them right) and turn the volume up

-At 0:03 the guitar flange (from the previous song) fades out and you can clearly hear someone talk, then sing, then speak again.

-at 0:16 you might wanna turn down the music or take the earphones off completely cuz you'll get started at the sudden burst of sound ;)

I know this is super late but I've been listening to Blink alot lately and pining for my youth (though i'm only 22 now..). I used to be like a lot of the teens here, thinking this song was about just being a wild teen trying to have a fun time, never really paying attention to the "we used this song to lead you on/left a scar sized extra large" line. Why? Well like many kids you only hear what you wanna.

Now that I'm older i listen to this song and really understand it because I've been there; crazy kid having fun to realizing some of those fun moments might of left their mark on my life in a not so positive way.

Anyway, just wanted to clear it up for any younger people out there that might just be getting in to Blink and thinking that they're crazy for hearing weird voices at the start of the song: You're not, dont listen to The St. Jimmy ;)
