Neil Young – The Old Laughing Lady Lyrics 11 years ago
That's what I've always thought, too, although it could be addiction of one kind or another, also. We all know Neil has written about that since (Needle & the Damage Done). Maybe "Lady" was a precursor to "Needle"?

Sorry, but until I hear Neil himself explain it like this, I believe you are WAY off the track.

Nope....Neil didn't marry Pegi until 1978. He was with actress Carrie Snodgress until 1975.

Neil Young – Birds Lyrics 15 years ago
I agree with most of these comments, but this song has always meant (to me) to be about someone (the singer) leaving his lover ("It's over"),who he has fallen out of love with, but still cares about, & is telling her, as mentioned by coolnuts5, that she will find someone else. The twice-repeated line: "Tomorrow, see the things that never come today" means to me that he's telling his partner that she will someday find someone to give her the love that he no longer can give her. Whatever the exact meaning, like SO many Neil songs, the beauty & bittersweetness is overwhelming.
