John Frusciante – Enough Of Me Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think these lyrics are slightly off. This is what I think they are: This precise time and right here Are not going anywhere Ive had enough of new todays For once Id like to go another way I speak my last words and then remember it may never end All that Ive won I have lost Each passing moment cuts me off Well, I dont like to waste a chance but theyre overflowing What I dont do will get done by somebody When I was five I saw some plants ungrowing Whether seen forwards or back theyd keep going Theyd keep going If the seasons which change were all still Its so easy to see life would fail Whatever slips out of our hands Will find its way back to us once again If the seasons which change were all still Its so easy to see life would fail Whatever slips out of our hands Will find its way back to us once again Will find its way back to us once again Will find its way back to us once again Once again It's an amazing song. One of my favorites already and I can't stop listening to it. I derive a lot of the meaning from the last lines: "If the seasons which change were are still It's so easy to see life would fail. Whatever slips out of our hands will find its way back to us once again" I interpret it as without our struggles and hardships, without knowing failure and grief, we can never succeed as humans. We need to go through periods of coldness and desolation, like a winter, in order to learn from it and grow further we emerge out of it, in our spring. I think he's saying that feelings of depression and sadness are temporary, that, whatever feelings of happiness "slipped out of our hands" will return to us eventually, just like spring does every year. Such a great song and message. |
Fall Out Boy – What a Catch, Donnie Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think that the band has gone through a lot but it were these troubles which inspired many of their great hits. The "troubled thoughts" and the troubled self-esteem served as the material for their songs that are sung at the end (Sugar, We're Goin' Down, Dance, Dance, Thks Fr Th Mmrs, etc.) So when Patrick sings "what a catch," I think he means a Catch-22. No one obviously wants to go through troubles, but if it weren't for the troubles, there wouldn't be any songs, any hits, there wouldn't be Fall Out Boy, so it's really a catch-22. And i think that many people can relate, at least i can. you go through the troubles and the troughs in your life so that when you accomplish something, it feels amazing and gratifying. we make mistakes so we can succeed later. these are all catch-22s in that you can't have success without the troubles and heartbreaks that go with it. although i think fall out boy is being really introspective with this song, i think the theme is especially universal |

Elton John – Levon Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I love this song because the lyrics are so rich, as are most Bernie Taupin lyrics. If I look deeply into the lyrics, there is a lot of evidence pointing to how today's growingly materialistic society is departing from religious ties. Whether it is a "pauper" (a poor person) being born on Christmas, the New York Times reporting on the death of God, Levon counting his money from a family business with his son, Jesus, there is this dichotomy between consumerism and religion. Is it a coincidence that "he shall be Levon" can also be heard as "he shall believe on"? Who knows? However, my favorite version of the song is the simpler interpretation, of a touching relationship between a father and a son, of the point in every son's life when he has to leave home, live is own life. I find more consolence in this version because it is more meaningful personally. |
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Wet Sand Lyrics | 15 years ago |
this is just my opinion and i had some inspiration from papiLPS's theory but i kinda think it's a song about the two different Anthony's. There is the party-hard, drug-abusing Anthony and then there is the spiritually-cleansed Anthony who's got his stuff together. The song, I think is being told from the new Anthony's point-of-view and is addressed to his old self. Like papiLPS said, the "love affair" Anthony had with everywhere is catching up to him. In other words, his "shadow side" is killing his "sunny side," his past transgressions are still inflicting pain upon his present life. This is the "collision" that is "shifting his universe to a low". Yet, the new Anthony is coming to terms with his past and to aid his maturation process is his girlfriend, the love of his life, which I think is the subject of the second verse. Anthony's life is beginning to have meaning as this "beauty" has entered his life. The third verse begins to show Anthony's pain in coming to grips with how much his former life hurt other people. "His heart is hurting" yet he is comforted in that he is "right on the verge" and he is "close" to being at ease. He is close to reconciling his past, banishing the old Anthony from his life. This is where the ending comes in. The new Anthony is ridding the old Anthony from his life by telling him that "he doesn't form in the wet sand." To make an imprint in wet sand, something has to have substance, weight. I think that the lyrics are a metaphor for how the old Anthony had no substance, how he went through the party-hard motions and yet had no meaning to his life. With his girlfriend and child, the new Anthony has meaning to his life, he has substance, therefore, he can "form in the wet sand." The triumphant exclaim of "I do!" into John's haunting guitar solo, I think, can be symbolic of the old Anthony exiting the new Anthony. Again, this is just my opinion and I could be way off base but this is my favorite song of all time so I had to at least try and understand what it means. |
