I like the D G repetitive notes and the revolutionary marching drums and the flutes always reminded me of a schoolhouse rock cartoon which was new on Sat morning cartoons at this time. In the Wings video the drummer is dressed in a Rev War hat and uniform. I like that Paul opened his songs up to so many instruments with Wings when he could have just formed another Beatles instead he wanted everything(lots of instruments) on his songs. Words are simple that a kid could relate to so I see this as a song for his daughters who were children when he did this. |

I believe this song is about someone who has been away or at least no longer in a relationship with someone and wants back in their place. The "tantrums and the chilling chats" convey they are quite a troubled/maybe dangerous person. They are asking to stay with that someone again promising they won't run away, even "if the ship is wrecked" which pretty much says even if there's no "relationship", they will still be there. The song sounds like a desperate plea from a desperate person for a place to live. I mean "even when you lock me out" may seem figurative to some, but I feel it's literally meaning when he/she comes home late/drunk/stoned they won't leave just because they got locked out. They're begging for a place. |

I want to add..why so many comments on this song being about Nate and his experiences..all the references I hear are about the Afgan/Iraq war..especially not wanting to die in the desert pretty much spells it out for you. It's a tribute to the troops. |

"terrible lie"..not nights..he's talking about the night his sister got with the con because she thought he loved her, but from that lie came his beautiful nephew. This is by far my favorite song of 2012. Excellent music and lyrics..usually the best songs have stupid lyrics, but this one doesn't. It says something and gives me the same feeling I had at 19 thru 21. War is such a waste of time for someone in their prime which is 90% of all men at war. |

His former love is dead. He's singing to someone he loved who is dead. That's obvious from the first lyrics. All the lyrics convey this. I'm not certain on how his love died, but "catching things and eating their insides like indecision to call you" leads me to think of someone who is getting eaten up by drugs/disease/life's dangers and even though they betrayed him(hear your voice of treason), he wants to call them and warn them about the path they are taking or try to undo the damage and stop the pain. Sadly now he's telling them not to waste their time haunting him, because he's already thinking of them and thier voice. The line where are you, and I'm so sorry is probably the most emotional part of the song. I have liked this song from the 1st time I heard it and 9 years later, it's still right up their with Nirvana for me. |

I like this song except for the words heart and pride should be exchanged for body and health. I'm tired of love songs. I want to hear songs about real people and what's important. If I were Dave I'd be writing this song about vets coming back with no limbs or people who get cancer, not some love gone bad. I won't give my story here in this comment, but what's really important losing a girlfriend to another person or losing an arm to a medical waste bin? |

Reelin in the years..I think of this phrase as someone who is done with fishing..done with the game..ready to settle down after years of having fun. Stowing away the time to me means she hasn't seen you/him for a long time, putting it away on purpose..gathering up the tears means she's done crying and had enough of mine means she'll not be listening to his anymore..This song is about someone the singer loves who is settling down with another man and he's giving his last farewells to her telling her how though he obviously loved/loves her, he never understood her and she obviously didn't value him |

I've read some comments, but this is what it means...The singer is in a relationship with someone who's career has taken off(the entire 1stt part before the chorus is referring to an Evil Knievel type motorcycle jumper as a analogy of the person's succcess) and now he sees that because of this person's fame and success, it's time for them to "move on" from him. So his plea is that he's the best thing they'll ever have and not to leave him "high and dry". It's very common in any business..someone gets rich and famous and it's time for them to move on to the bigger and better relationship. |

Very high school/teen feelings all through this song. "Can't help but think of all the flaws, Claw my way out of these walls"..There are so many things wrong with you and your school in high school, you want to leave it. The temp escape that starts to permeate is looking up to the stars at night and taking your mind off you and your issues and looking up into outer space and how beautiful it is. The bittersweet is the feeling that it's supposed to be a great time when you are young and beautiful(probably the best looking you'll ever be), but it's also the most depressing stressful part of life(Will he/she go with you to the party? Will you make the team? Are you going to get good grades? Not to mention how tired you always were and are your friends trusting and good or will they turn on you?}..that's what makes high school/youth bittersweet. |

The wheel is the world's definition of success and the butterfly is her dream to become famous/rich/successful/American dream/etc..so the wheel breaks her dream..this phrase means not just break, but doesn't even stand the slightest chance of the dream living(a wheel running over a butterfly)..this song reminds me a bit of Susan Boyle's I Dreamed a Dream. This song Paradise is much better than Every Teardrop is a Waterfall..Coldplay is very very talented at making music, but the lyrics could use a little tweeking. I suppose if I told them in person, they'd be saying 'ok, you write and compose a song that sells millions and then we'll collaborate with you'..ha |

It's not 'Memory, yeah' it's 'memoria' in this case making a memoria for him to remember you by at the party. High school and college or just young adult parties in general are always remembered more than most things. Do you remember so and so dressing up like a such and such for a certain party? Do you remember a high school or college party? I'm sure you do. what about the following day? Probably not. So that's the memoria of being remembered years later from the party. The come dowsed in mud,soaked in bleach was saying wear what you want, he's not going to verbally gun you down with negative criticism(I don't have a gun).You can even come as you are,don't clean yourself up(very grunge!). This song came out in the winter of 92' epitomized grunge youth. |

I like the verse, 'what else could I write, I don't have the right'..he was referring to his ability he felt he lost to writing great songs. This song's rhythm, riff, and musical instrumentation is a masterpiece, but all great composers struggle with lyrics as he probably did. He probably had alot of lyrics for this song and decided to use these. The music in this song is phenomenal and although I'd of changed the lyrics here and there to be more 'meaning of life' themed, they are probably some of his best lyrics. This music to me is very painful and displays a real sense of pain and desperation like many of his songs. |

To me his song is about an married goodlooking actor 30s or 40s age range who never made it big. He's a joke to his wife and neighbors, but he's applauded and a success Romeo type at the theater that he acts in at night. Disposition is a habit..something or someone you always go back to(in this case I believe someone)..reckless abandon is just the opposite, getting away from that habit or set of friends..so you can be someone else(like no one's watching you that knows you)..so if you have something or someone you love and is your sweet disposition and then you can abandon them(get away from them(a set of friends or your place in the life of those people)..so when he says 'just stay there' he's away from them all or her or his habit(whatever he loves) and wants her/him/it to stay there because he'll be going back to it.It's about being young as well and enjoying these moments of life that he's having with people. Songs of desperation..what a great theme..aren't we all desperate in your youth...not having this and that..one day we'll be older and have the spouse/career..all that security..but we'll have lost our youth..so while our blood is young we should enjoy what we do have which is each other's love/friendship/etc..very inspirational |

I really like this song except when he goes into the same ole tyrid about losing her. It seems some of the best songs are just thrown to the wayside of same ole 'lover/wife/husband I've lost' scenario that has crippled the music industry for decades. Frankly this song would have been better if lyriced around a baby who's father abondoned him as a child, which would go well with the chorus, but instead God and girlfriend were substituted in..oh well..it's still has a good beat/sound/acoustics. |

I forgot to add, "I won't tell em your name" = he won't tell anyone her real name if she reunites with him. He doesn't want fame from their brother/sister relationship, only love."Reruns all become our history"= he sees reruns on TV and remembers watching TV with her. "Scars are souvenirs you never lose, the past is never far"= As orphans they were abused in foster care and probably separated while still relatively young. This is very common for abused foster kids to be separated from each other at a very young age in order for the abused one(s) to forget the environment they were in. |

He's writing to his little sister..this makes perfect sense. "Letter's that you never meant to send, lost or thrown away"= reply letters that she sent back to him saying that she doesn't know him or leave her alone..those letters he's lost or thrown them away because he's not giving up on their brother sister relationship. "I saw the dreams you never thought you'd lose tossed along the way"= he remembers her dreams of becoming famous when they were little and what she was going to do change and her original plans of fame tossed for the fame she now has. "It's lonely where you are come back down"= he sees her in the tabloids/news and knows she is lonely and wants her to reunite with her long lost brther."Did you lose yourself somewhere out there, did you get to be a star" =on her road to fame she let go of who she was in order to become who she is. "Don't it make you sad to know that life is more than who were are"= Isn't it sad to find out there's more to life than being famous and fame doesn't fulfil our life goals/dreams. I'm not 100% certain that this is what he had in mind when he wrote the song, but it makes very good sense for the brother/sister scenario. |
