Patrick Wolf – Lycanthropy Lyrics 14 years ago
This song is a reference to the Swedish vampire book (now a film) 'Låt den rätte komma in' or 'Let the Right One In'.

The book is about a shy 12 year old boy named Oskar that is pushed around by bullies at school. Oskar is obsessed with death (collecting obituaries, news clippings and such) and has potential to someday be dangerous.

One night a girl named Eli and an old man move in to his apartment complex. He gradually makes friends with her and finds out she is a vampire and that the old man bleeds people to feed her.

One night he accidentally sees Eli naked in her bathroom and sees a horizontal scar on her groin (and that Eli was originally a he). Eli encourages Oskar to stand up for himself and fight the bullies. In the end he faces his fears and because of Eli embraces friendship and lets go of his obsession with death.

So, this song is from Eli's perspective and follows Oskar's journey. Also the song title is Lycanthropy which is the cryptozoological term for vampirism.

The PAper ChAse – I'm Going to Heaven With or Without You (The Forest Fire) Lyrics 14 years ago
When I hear this song, I can't help but think about communities that continually are assaulted by natural disasters. I always wonder why anyone would live in an area in which they run the chance of loosing everything they own.

I think this has allot to do with superstition and how it won't save you. Ultimately you can only save yourself.

This may be my favorite song on this Album. It's just so intense.

The PAper ChAse – If Nobody Moves Nobody Will Get Hurt (The Extinction) Lyrics 14 years ago
(IMO) This is defiantly about futility. We horde our money, we foster vanity and we fight for our causes. And for what? In the end we all end up in the grave. No one leaves with the same dignity and ideals that they live with in their lifetime; death humbles everyone. This seems to be the underlying tone of the album as well.

My favorite line is, "If it's something you need, then stretch out your skeletons & grab it.

Muse – Apocalypse Please Lyrics 14 years ago
Matt Bellamy has stated in interviews, that 9/11 and the war in Iraq had an influence on the writing of this album. He also has stated that he believes 9/11 was orchestrated by the United States government or allowed by them to happen. This all hinges on the idea that the U.S. needed a reason to invade Iraq , so they invented one.

With this in mind, I tend to view this album from beginning to end as different snap shots of 9/11 and the war in Iraq. I also think the album is meant have a sardonic, farcical and tongue-in-cheek tone to it.

I view Apocalypse Please as the president rallying the stupefied public to war just after the blow of 9/11. Notice the somewhat epic tone to it? The marching feet at the beginning of the album?

I like what someone else mentioned about a Muse Musical. lol I think this album is extremely theatrical sounding. Almost like a film in you're head as the album plays. Beautiful waves of melody...

The PAper ChAse – We Know Where You Sleep Lyrics 15 years ago
I can see 3 possibilities for this song:

One is what the previous posters have indicated. Paranoia and fear as tools to control others. The governments view of it's people. "You know what your good for"

The second one is that it is a song from 'death' to humanity. He is sort of mocking our resistence of his pull, you can run and hide but everyone gets theirs in the end. He waits everywhere and you could die at anytime. In essence we are deaths bitch.

The last one came to me while watching Dexter, the TV show. The line, "I don’t know about you
But I am at peace, I know what it is that I must do." After I heard that, alot of dots connected for me on the song. Not the most likely interpretation, but, one that puts a spin on it.

Anyway, take 'em or leave 'em, this is what I have to offer.

The PAper ChAse – Said The Spider To The Fly Lyrics 15 years ago
Ecci is dead on. This is a love song from Jeffrey Dahmer to his victims and it's full of references to his crimes. If you know about the case it helps understand the song. Dahmer imfamously kept some of the victims body parts, including their heads and as the song says their wicked parts (genitals). Some of the lines are references to his "experiments" made on his victims. He also battled with religion and athiesm (sunday remorse). It also hints at his philosophy on life (Good things die all the time, So God bless your heart, vengeance is mine), if there's no god he can make his own rules in life and would be serving the world as much as anyone else, because man has no authority.

All in all an amazing song musically and lyrically. This is the second song I heard from them and I was very impressed.

Blur – Song 2 Lyrics 15 years ago
I always thought the song was about fear of flying. Perhaps it's him telling about the first time he flew on an airplane. Every noise and every bump is terrifying:

'I got my head checked
By a jumbo jet
It wasn't easy
But nothing is
No'

I think the next bit is him hearing the engins and feeling the terror (pins and needles) of something happening. Who knows maybe he was on a plane that had engin trouble (heavy metal) when he was younger:

"When I feel heavy metal
And I'm pins and I'm needles'

The next bit he's telling himself that everythings going to be alright and talking to the person in the neighboring seat to help keep calm.

'Well I lie and I'm easy
All of the time but I'm never sure
When I need you
Pleased to meet you'

I think the, "I got my head done when I was young" means that the whole thing is past tense and just him remembering it or telling a friend what happened.

Ultimately the, 'Woo hoo' is just the terror he feels every time the plane bumps and jostles. It also is probably exilerating to know he survived and to think back on it.

When I think of it in this context it makes me laugh. Just to imagine this guy going insane on an airplane. I think it would have made a fitting music video.

Bonnie 'Prince' Billy – Am I Demon? Lyrics 15 years ago
Boy, I wish other people would comment on this song. I'm curious to see what people think.

I could be wrong, but I think this is a good guess:
I think the song could be as simple as him feeling like no matter what he does or how good a person he tries to be he always hurts the people around him. His insecurities make him feel like people are judging him and so he hates them for it. He wants to be around his friends because he doesn't want to be alone, but he always ends up feeling like poison to them, like an outsider. 'Damned if you do, Damned if you don't."

Here's another possibility:
I think the song is about him looking at the world around him and seeing people controlled mostly by the animal side of themselves. Our wars, greed and hate, all stem from that. So, no matter how hard people try, no one defeats that part of themselves. You can hope for humanity but nothing changes.

'Hordes of faces, empty eyes
I see nothing new
Seasoned schemes of slimy curs
Offer up their flu'

I think he feels helpless because, even though he sees the way the world is and hates the world for being that way, he knows that he is guilty of the same crimes. So no matter what words of wisdom he has that could help the world, they always come out in judgement and anger and hinder him.

'Faces of a million hells rage inside these veins
Pounding out deserved pain to anyone in need'

In the end he feels like humanity is evil as a species and gives up.

'Am I demon? I need to know
Am I demon? You need to know
Am I demon? You need to know

I am, I am, I am'

The Jesus and Mary Chain – Just Like Honey Lyrics 15 years ago
I think this song is just as beautiful, even with a sexual meaning. I think perhaps, the modern mind ruins this song, but I can like it either way I think. And yes, it is beautiful that someone would give up their comfort for the sake of another and helping them enjoy life for a bit, which is the obvious meaning of the song.
And for those that are saying we should be talking about Lost in Translations (one of my favorite movies) and not about the "Song Meaning" (which is what the web site is called), need to just accept both possibilities. Just because you don't like to think of a song with sexual meaning, doesn't mean it's not the correct meaning.

Rammstein – Amerika Lyrics 15 years ago
I agree that the song is sort of just stating the facts and in an eye rolling kind of manner.
The song adresses how every country around the world is becoming more American and how disheartening it can be to see another McDonalds go up in a once untouched country. Countries around the world are losing their distinct identities and becoming American. What a boring world it will be in 100 years.

The American government says to the rest of the world, 'If you don't love me you'll get hurt'. We are powerful and other countries know it, but they don't respect us, they fear us. Even the American people know that if you protest something nowdays you can be considered a terrorist. So I think this song applies to the American people as well. The average American is severely distracted and doesn't want to be bothered with things that really matter. We think that America couldn't be any better and so we stop trying to improve our country. We live in a fantasy world. We enjoy the superficial patriotism that makes you feel better and look good to your friends (via voting). But we no longer argue our countries actions and if you do then it's "unpatriotic" and going by what Lil' Bush says, it also makes you a supporter of terrorism. Thus, we see freedoms pulled out from under us and become victims of the USA like the rest of world. We worry so much about what the rest of the world is doing that we forget about our own country.

The Smashing Pumpkins – Ava Adore Lyrics 15 years ago
I have an interpretation of this song that may seem strange but I think really works.

I think it could be a love song from a Vampire to humanity or someone he is convincing to become like him. In the video Corgan is dressed similar to nosferatu and is singing to the camera. I think it is this character living vicariously through the people he comes to feed upon. In Anne Rices vampire books she make that relationship very romantic, erotic and nihilistic.

lovely girl you're the beauty in my world
without you there aren't reasons left to find
*He is using this person as his drug. A way for him to feel human again.

and I'll pull your crooked teeth
you'll be perfect just like me
*Pretty obvious how this one relates. Fangs...

you'll be a lover in my bed
and a gun to my head
*Him taking life is a reminder of his curse of immortality.

in you I count stars
*He has time enough to count the stars in the sky.

in you I taste god
*Looking for gods existence. He asks why would god allow a creature like him to exist?

in you I feel so hungry
*Hunger = thirst for blood

in you I crash cars
*Finding death in the souls he takes.

drinking mercury
*Mercury is red like blood.

to the mystery of all that you should ever seek to find
*If she joins him, she'll have forever to find the meaning of life.

lovely girl you're the murder in my world
dressing coffins for the souls I've left behind
in time
*Vampires sleep in coffins. There are more like him.
