Kid Cudi – Down 'n' Out Lyrics 15 years ago
Surprised as hell to see that I'm the first to comment on this. Won't try to go into some deep, philosophical rambling about what this song means, pretty sure it's self-explanatory.

Good song

Modest Mouse – Guilty Cocker Spaniels Lyrics 15 years ago
So, I just had to comment how amazing I think this song is. I would go so far as to say it's beautiful. Yeah, I'm incredibly biased for Modest Mouse, I'll admit. I still think this is a beautiful song.

As for the lyrics, I'm not sure. Coming from the title and taking the lyrics as a whole, it reminds me of failure. Either in a relationship or in life as a whole.

Honestly, I think it's a personal failure in a relationship leading up to his current feelings, bored with life and still blaming the other person but unable, or unwilling, to really stop the way he's living or acting.

Peter Salett – Miss You (Thought You Should Know) Lyrics 15 years ago
I miss her.

Thought you guys should know that this song is great. Obviously, some people will be able to connect with it more than others, me being the former.

No matter how much you tell yourself that people come and go, still can't help but miss them sometimes.

Ray LaMontagne – Empty Lyrics 15 years ago
I just wanted to say that while the meaning of a song's lyrics are usually relatively, left up for the person to decide, unless the writer says "This is the meaning...." This song makes me cry every time I hear it because when this song comes on, I just can't control my feelings and everything I keep bottled up for the day comes out when the music starts playing.

For me, this song is all about depression. But, that's only because that is what I've dealt with since I was 12 years old. Since I was 18, I've felt this unexplainable emptiness inside of me. Like I've no purpose, no way to find out my purpose, that everything I do is pointless and without merit. I feel useless and destroyed, beaten down again and again. I feel unloved and completely alone, regardless of whether or not I scream at the top of my lungs everyone just pretends to not hear me.

When he talks of making quiet love, to me that is the love you make when one or both partners are so completely depressed and beaten they don't even find a connection through making love. It is purely physical, with the two looking away from each other because they know they just need to feel something good once in a while, even if it is only through sex.

I think the verse about demons is about suicide, or death. Telling all his troubles, his sadness and emptiness, to really go ahead and eat him alive. That he has suffered through it so much that he just doesn't care enough to fight it or try and stave it off. He just wants to quietly accept his death and embraces it, in fact he WANTS it to come. The hurt I hide just fuels the fires inside me that keep me on this self-destructive path of misery, loneliness, and, hopefully, death.

The Olivia Tremor Control – The Sylvan Screen Lyrics 15 years ago
This song IS amazing. I could be wholly wrong on this but I just feel like this song is trying to say how completely useless everyone has become.

The protagonist sits and watches others from his window and while no one else sees him and while no one else stops, he doesn't try to stop them or let them know he exists. He just watches other people live their lives without living one of his own.

We move on to society, to the structured world where no one has to worry about anything except mowing lawns, raking leaves. No one tries to see him, no one cares to.

I could just be reading too much into this or putting my own personal bias into the meaning, so please anyone feel free to shoot down everything I said.

The Olivia Tremor Control – I Have Been Floated Lyrics 15 years ago
This song now gives me goosebumps. It is written so beautifully and while I do not attempt to deny it, help from Emerson be damned!

When put together in paragraph form, it really is amazing how much beauty it retains while taking on a wholly different thing altogether. Beautiful songwriting and beautiful writing are different things, I believe. This song is both.

And it is true. I've been floated my whole life...

James Blunt – Give Me Some Love Lyrics 15 years ago
I think this song is both about addiction and depression as they can often go hand in hand.

I'm only 21, but I've 'battled' depression since I was 12 years old. Is it a coincidence that since I was 16 years old I've stuffed as much and as many drugs as I could into my body? I think not.

This song is basically depression and drug 'addiction' in song form. No matter how many drugs I do, no matter how good I feel in that moment, it never lasts and the pain always comes back. I see myself from many different viewpoints all at the same time. All different facets of myself and each whispering different things into my ears but none of them really say anything, they really just watch what happens. The drugs call to me, telling me that they'll make me better, they'll make me someone I want to be and when they hit, I'll really, truly be someone better, someone I can stand.

When he says, "Someday, soon, they'll drop the bomb and let it all out" I think he is referring to the fact that, eventually, the faces do let it all out and you realize what a truly terrible person you are. They drop the bomb on you.

At that point, you either give up on the life you've led, the things you've done and turn to something meaningful to help: love.

Just my 2cents.
