And it starts... sometime around midnight or at least that's when you lose yourself for a minute or two (Midnight is a very powerful time as it is when one day turns into the next, in the middle of the night when all is dark. He is moving from one day to the next feeling alone and lost in himself which is an immediately evocative image.) As you stand... under the barlights and the band plays some song about forgetting yourself for a while (He is consumed in his thoughts whilst the band is just playing in the background) And the piano's this melancholy soundcheck to her smile And that white dress she's wearing you haven't seen her for a while (He looks across the bar and sees the girl he once loved and deep down still does. She’s smiling as if in a dream, and her ghostly white dress is forcing the past to reinvent itself inside the mind of the man. He hasn’t seen her for a while so has had time to experience life without her, but seeing her again makes him realize what he lost in her and how much he has truly missed her since their separation.) But you know... that she's watching She's laughing, she's turning she's holding her tonic like a crux (She’s clearly seen him too and is laughing and trying to give him the impression that she has moved on with her life since being with him. She is trying to be happy. The fact that she is trying so hard to act like this conveys that probably she still has deep feelings for him as well and misses him desperately too. Perhaps the man was the one who for whatever reason (and the reasons are irrelevant now) broke up with her, and so she is trying to make him regret his actions and kid him into thinking that she has been fine without him.) The room suddenly spinning she walks up and asks how you are so you can smell her perfume you can see her lying naked in your arms (She tries to stay calm and collected and walks up to say hello. As she does so, his head is spinning with all the emotions that are overwhelming him. The scent of her perfume instantly brings back memories of their time together and he instantly craves the physical and emotional intimacy that he once shared with her) And so there's a change... in your emotions and all of these memories come rushing like feral waves to your mind of the curl of your bodies like two perfect circles entwined and you feel hopeless, and homelss and lost in the haze of the wine (He suddenly realizes that he never lost his feelings for her and that he still loves her. They were like ‘two perfect circles’- meant for eachother, a perfect fit, and he let silly confusions and stupid reasoning destroy their love. Maybe he started looking too far into the future that he stopped enjoying the present with her, or maybe he thought he needed to experience life without her. Now he has experienced life without her however, he realizes that he was wrong to let her go. He feels hopeless, like he could never win back her love having hurt her once, and he feels homeless because he no longer has the security and love that she once gave him. He has been drinking, and everything is a confused muddle in his mind. He feels numb with pain and emotion) And she leaves... with someone you don't know but she makes sure you saw her she looks right at you and bolts (She is probably feeling similar emotions to the man- of love, regret and longing. But she has found someone else who cares for her. It is doubtful that she is fully over her lost love and so doubtful that she cares for her new man in the same way, but she has tried to move on with her life. She wants her ex-lover to know this, and to feel some of the hurt that he made her feel when he left and rejected her. She looks right at him purposefully, so that he can feel what she is feeling.) As she walks out the door your blood boiling your stomach in ropes and when your friends say what is it you look like you've seen a ghost (She leaves having destroyed him. His blood is boiling with jealousy and his stomach is in knots with longing and pain. His friends notice the change in him and comment on how he looks like he has seen a ghost. He has, he has seen in his ex-girlfriend the ghost of their lost love, and he is wishing that it wasn’t dead.) And you walk... under the streetlights and you're too drunk to notice that everyone is staring at you and you so care what you look like the world is falling around you (He has to get out of the bar and he has to find her. He is drunk now and cannot think straight. Reason has left him and all he feels is passion, emotion and love for the girl that he lost. Everyone is staring at him but he doesn’t notice and does not care as his mind is clouded by alcohol and by love. Everything in his life seems irrelevant and pointless without her in it.) You just have to see her You just have to see her You just have to see her You just have to see her You just have to see her and you know that she'll break you in two (All he knows is that he has to see her even though the pain of seeing her with someone else is breaking him in two. He has become desperate now and doubts he will ever love someone as much as he loved his ex-girlfriend). This song relates to me so much right now. My boyfriend of a year recently left me, giving me no reasons why. He seemed to get so confused and worried about the future and us drifting apart that he seemed to forget about the wonderful things that we shared in our relationship together, and how important living for the moment is. He has hurt me so much that I doubt I could ever go back to being with him anyway, but I hope he will one day realize what he lost in us. He was my best friend apart from anything else, and living without him is tearing me apart. Imagining him with other girls is torture. I guess I just have to hope that I will find someone who will love me more than he did, that maybe one day we can be friends, and that if we are meant to be together in the future, we will be. ‘I just have to see him, but I know that he’d break me in two’. |

I LOVE this song- it's simple, it's romantic and it feels real. So here are my two cents: 1, 2, 3... And if I could swim, I'd swim out to you in the ocean, Swim out to where you were floating, In the dark (If he could, he would do anything to be with her but he feels helpless as he is somehow prevented- in this analogy she is floating out in the dark in the sea but he can’t swim so he can’t reach her even though he is desperate to) And if I was blessed, I'd walk on the water you're breathing, To lend you some air for that heaving, sunken chest (Again, if only he could walk on water he would do anything to get to her and he’d give up some of himself to help her and save her) Cause they chose you as the model for their empty little dreams, With your new hair and your legs spread like a filthy magazine, And they hunt you and they gut you and you give in (She has become someone else because of the people she surrounds herself with and their negative influence on her. This song is one of if not my absolute favourite song mainly because so many people can relate to it. Whenever I hear it I think of my boyfriend who is at uni and although I travel to see him as much as I can, I miss the summer when we could be together pretty much everyday if we wanted to be. We will be apart for 4 months later in the year so we will have to see what happens. However, although the last night before we have to leave eachother each time I see him is sad because we miss eachother when we are apart, we are still trying to make it work because we know it's worth it. I think this song is essentially a love song- 'there's a log on the fire and it burns like me for you'- and it's simplistic nature makes it all the more powerful. It's about two lovers spending a quiet night in together with candlelight, a bottle of wine, and eachother. The fact that that's all they need to be happy demonstrates that their love is genuine and real and definitely worth fighting for. They know that the good times have to come to an end (even if temporarily) but rather than wallowing in the sadder parts of reality, he is trying to be optimistic about their relationship, choosing to focus on the positive, amazing times and memories they have together in a desperate effort to 'delay the misery'. They can't change the fact that he has to leave, and he hates to see her cry because it isn't any easier for him to say goodbye to her than it is for her to say goodbye to him. At my low times this leads to an instant lump in my throat but I really believe that if a relationship is meant to work...it will work, and distance or circumstance shouldn't matter. :) |

chimes320...sorry to hear about all that...I do not envy your situation and I hope everything works out how it is supposed to :) To me this song is about working out your feelings for people...sometimes you can feel a connection with someone or find yourself semi-attracted to them despite being happy in a relationship with someone else. We're only human after all, things can easily get complicated! It seems that he isn't the relationship type and maybe goes from girl to girl without much commitment, possibly because he just hasn't found the right girl...however, he finally is in a steady relationship with someone he really cares for and is putting her first in his life, above the other people who he may meet and like. He has recently met another girl who perhaps has told him that she feels something for him and whilst he thinks shes great as a person too, he has 'just found someone special' and is too happy to risk losing his girlfriend just because this other girl is trying to tempt him. He is saying that he doesn't want to get too close to her and get everything confused because for once in his life, he is happy with someone he loves. It is really cute and shows his commitment to his gf, it is really honest too, admitting that it is possible to like other people whilst in a relationship, as long as you keep the perspective on who really matters in your life :) |

Like ray ray I may be taking on a personal meaning....but I see it as a girl and a guy who used to be together when they were younger but for whatever reason split up...and the guy is singing to the girl. The girl has just split up with another boyfriend and is feeling really depressed and lonely and thinking that she will never find 'the one'...and that all her past relationships have just been wasted time...meaningless and useless. And she starts thinking about the boy she was with all those years ago...meanwhile the boy is also thinking about her and how he has wasted so much time not being with her...and he remembers what she said before they broke up about how sometimes you have to let love free before you can truly find it...and they both left eachother to find 'true love'...not realising what they already had in eachother. | I have mixed feelings of what I think this song is actually about...but I know in many ways I can apply it to my life right now and I ABSOLUTELY adore it. Definitely one of my all-time favourites, I found it at just the perfect time for me...it seems to be about the timing of everything being wrong- maybe the guy just needs more time to think about their developing relationship and realise what he really wants from it- but he is saying that they will work through any difficulties together even though it may be hard at first. These difficulties could be anything really though...maybe they are going their separate ways for a while and don't know if their relationship will survive the change. Maybe they have financial problems? However, despite the sad undertones there is lots of hope in this song I think! It's saying that don't worry...everything will work out eventually somehow, even if you can't see how. Things will turn around. Yeah there will be change involved, and hard times, and a whole load of confusion...but it's got to get better eventually so as long as they believe that then there should be a happy ending :) | |

It's about people having trouble in their relationship- being on and off the whole time. The guy is saying that he really cares about her, but that she needs to decide what she wants from their relationship once and for all because all the indecision is hurting him and if she isn't going to stick at it, he could be moving on and starting to try and get over her. If she is only going to choose not to stay with him, he would rather that she didn't lead him on and make him think that she cares when she doesn't really....because it's only hurting him and making everything worse. It's really sad :( He can do better than stupid Haley though!!! |

| This is such a beautiful song *weep*! I see Yellow as being symbolic of happiness, joy and brightness. His love for the girl he is singing to makes him yellow inside as to him she shines like the stars and he would do anything for her. His love for her transcends the physical- more than just 'skin and bones'- it goes far deeper than that. With the 'I drew a line' part...maybe he means that since she's come into his life he's become a new person and he's entered a whole new, happy stage to his life where she is the most important thing to him. Also I think this song is about love in general, it could be about other forms of love not just romantic love. That's what makes it so INSANELY amazing. You can tell it's going to be one of those songs that becomes a classic- it should be anyway. | |

| Love love love this song it’s so beautiful. I think it’s about a girl who’s somehow come into this guy’s life at a difficult time and it’s clear that they are attracted to each other and could be together but for whatever reason they can’t be. Maybe the guy is already in a relationship and whilst he is attracted to this new girl, he is happy with the girl he is already with hence finds it hard to choose between the two- he can’t seem to find the room for this new girl in his life because someone is already filling her place. If she had come into his life later perhaps he knows that if he wasn’t still with someone things may have been different. He can’t face losing her and he does want her in his life but he’s caught in the middle- he knows how she feels for him and that she’s his if he wants and he does care about her but the timing is all wrong and it seems impossible. He’s saying to her that although it all seems to be falling through, there’s nothing to say that they won’t be able to ‘piece it back together’ one day, learn to trust each other and perhaps eventually be together if the situation changes. He realizes that he would do anything for her- using the weather analogies- and that he needs her in his life to ‘teach [him] wrong from right’, but it’s not as easy as it should be and he has to sort out his feelings. Calling her his shooting star is perfect- he was stable in his life, or his ‘atmosphere’ until she came along unexpectantly and caught his attention- he knows she’s something special and he doesn’t want to lose her because perhaps it’s rare that someone makes such an impact on his life. I reckon he chooses this ‘shooting star’ eventually because he ‘can’t refuse’ even though he knows he’s risking his previous stability and security. | |

| I reckon a lot of people can really relate to this song including myself. She's found someone she clicks with and wants to be with but she can’t tell him how she feels and they aren’t going anywhere because neither of them can put how they feel into words. She’s scared that he doesn’t feel the same way even though he probably does…but no one can ever tell for sure hence her understandable fear- no-one finds rejection easy when it really matters. She’s probably thought of all the things she wants to say beforehand but as soon as he’s standing there in front of her it all goes wrong and doesn’t work out as easily as she hoped it might. She’s awkward in his presence because of her nerves and her trying to ‘be so perfect’ to impress him because she knows he’s worth all the effort and emotional pain. She knows that she’s got to tell him how she feels if she wants their relationship to move on but the ‘words keep slipping away’. She can’t move on because she knows that he is the one she wants to be with, but she’s ‘wishing her life away’ because all she does is think of what she wants to say and get really close to saying them but can never quite translate her feelings into action and words. It’s so often hard to explain how you feel especially when you know you’re risking heartbreak in the process. I think there comes a point when you have to tell the person how you feel, especially if there is nothing to stop your relationship and if you have any idea that the other person feels the same way because it’s so sad that so many things go unsaid because people are scared about the outcome…it’s got to work out sometime.
